  1. Yeah, but we have all this quality pitching depth that made it necessary to throw May to the bullpen? :-)
  2. I meant the strike zone being wider especially where the umpire sets up which is between the catcher and batter. In other words it looked like an inch or two off the plate but close to the batter was a strike today as opposed to an inch or two off the plate away from the batter being called a strike.
  3. seems fairly wide too, at least on the inside.
  4. True. Like I kept being told before the season started, this is the deepest quality talent we've had in a long time :-)
  5. generous strike zone today?
  6. Have we really had 51 different lineups this season?
  7. What about 2013 when his MLB OPS was a hair over .700 in almost 300 PA, followed by 2014 when he had an OPS of .670 with 400+ PAs? This before ever looking at 2015 where his numbers were so bad he got sent down to the minors.
  8. Twins last in team ERA in the AL. Twins last in runs scored in the AL. Twins 14th out of 15 in defensive runs saved in the AL.
  9. Repeat day was yesterday :-)
  10. Announcer said Twins have to take advantage of the schedule with so many games being played at TF in the next 3 weeks. Then he said they've been playing very well at home. I think I'll stop listening to him now.
  11. FSN pre-game announcer, 'Just hasn't gone right for the Twins this year that's for sure but hey, there's always pork chop on a stick at Target Field'
  12. almost makes you wonder if he would have stolen that base late in the game if given the green light. In any event, that speed will only come in handy if/when he starts getting on base more.
  13. The Twins before TF targeted pitchers that were contact pitchers. They were less expensive than K pitchers, they also require good defensive players behind them. Strong glove guys are often less offensive threats than offense first players. They are also cheaper. It was a strategy built mostly on necessity (and pure cheapness) and TK did what he could with it. Gardy as well. Now, obviously, there were some players that were exceptions, but mostly our teams were like that for a long time.
  14. For the record , there's a difference between FIP and pFIP. FIP, itself, isn't predictive. It tells us what a pitcher's performance was as best a stat can (way better than ERA, for example). 'FIP is a measurement of a pitcher’s performance that strips out the role of defense, luck, and sequencing, making it a more stable indicator of how a pitcher actually performed over a given period of time than a runs allowed based statistic that would be highly dependent on the quality of defense played behind him, for example. Certain pitchers have shown an ability to consistently post lower ERAs than their FIP suggests, but overall FIP captures most pitchers’ true performance quite well. For this reason, FanGraphs’ version of Wins Above Replacement (WAR) for pitchers is based on FIP rather than on ERA and even analysts who prefer a different method of determining WAR find FIP to be extremely useful and informative.' pFIP is from hardball times and it attempts to be a predictive version of FIP, using different weights and giving certain aspects, like strikeouts, more weight. 'The weighting of FIP that is supposed to work as a describer puts the lowest weight on strikeouts, but strikeouts by themselves are the most predictive statistic. pFiP attempts to account for this fact by giving strikeouts more weight. The way FIP works as it stands is a much better describer than this statistic would be, but my goal is prediction, not description.
  15. Okay, yeah, that was an error by Kepler but hardly over the top bad. Yesterday the rays OF had a fairly easy can of corn bounce off his glove and roll away turning an out into a inside the park HR and that was not scored an error.
  16. Jack, you should know this, the CF is supposed to catch anything he can get to. Buxton should have caught it and made the throw, like he did. Nothing at all to do with Grossman's arm, has to do with the CF being in charge out there and taking every ball he can get. And he just missed the throw. He had plenty of time to adjust his feet, and he did. In relation to the plate, Grossman was running the other way and is left handed. Him making that play makes he have to stop quickly and turn to get it to home plate. The logical choice was Buxton making the play, not Grossman. But nothing to do with throwing arm strength.
  17. My guess is that Dozier is the one that complained about the announcers being too critical of the team. Jack found out and decided, 'okay, I'm going to rag on Dozier the whole time I'm filling in for Bert. Let's see Dozier come after me.'
  18. that's Jack's thing. has a thing for Dozier. Edited for sensitive types.
  19. It was a can of corn, an easy catch for any real OF. That's not diminishing Kepler, just pointing out that we shouldn't be surprised or overly praise easy plays just because we have some players so bad on defense it makes any play actually made look better than it is.
  20. 'This is the color of snow.' 'What is, Yellow.' 'Wrong.' 'Are you sure, I made some yesterday. Wrote your name in it. Of course, your mother was holding the pen!'
  21. Dick, 'He played it like he's been out there for 5 years.' Well, he's actually an outfielder, so he probably has. Weird to see an OF play the OF with some sort of competency isn't it?
  22. Some of us aren't surprised nor forgot how great he was as a catcher.
  23. I am not saying that you are one of the people who does the following: I think too many people categorize anyone who doesn't write exclusively about the Twins as not knowing them very well and, therefore, tend to just dismiss articles written by those people (especially when they are negative. Funny how some will point to an article written to praise a Twin or the team if written by someone like that though). Just because an article doesn't point out every single angle on everything about the subject down to the smallest detail in an article written for the masses doesn't mean it should be blown off as drivel.
  24. Depending on the topic, absolutely.
