  1. Did you watch the plate appearance? He got one good pitch on 3-0. That's it. One. And after the pitcher throws three straight pitches not really close to the strike zone, he should swing at that next pitch? The rest were horribly away from the strike zone, and he actually had a check swing at one of them because it was, I believe, a slider than looked like it might be a strike coming before going way inside.. He got 5 pitches. Which pitch not close to the strike zone should he have tried to put in play?
  2. nice play Sano (Bremer would call it extraordinary) Took three steps to his right on a slow two hopper. Took a bit to slow his body down, planted and rifled the ball to get the guy.
  3. Baseball America only has two in their top 100. I haven't seen or been able to find MLB dot com's mid-season 2016 list. Have a link? In any event, having three SPs in MLB dot com's is nothing new. We had three starting pitchers in MLB dot com's Top 100 pre-2014. We had the same three starting pitchers in MLB dot com's TOP 40 pre-2015. Two of them fell off MLB dot com's Top 100 pre-2016 list and are not in the majors.

  5. Probably not, or at least I think they are trying to get away from cookie-cutting. I still think they believe walks are a curse on our house, but besides that, no. And that's good, because pitchers depending on the defense assembled on this team would be a mistake.:-)
  6. My quote had zero to do with who we would have made available. I'm saying Boston is almost assuredly the ones who called Padres, which gives them the advantage as opposed to TR waiting by the phone waiting for a call from the Padres.
  7. Wait, we gave MAY the opportunity to stick? Are we talking rotation here? Best FIP in the rotation when he was demoted, best K/9IP when demoted, 2nd best BB/9 when demoted, 2nd best xFIP when demoted. Most WAR when demoted. 3rd most WAR as a starter for the whole season even though he only started 15 games. All that while having a .344 BABIP against (.300 is average). Meaning that was due to regress (we all got a taste of regression with Santana) which helps the other numbers. And he got demoted Berrios got FOUR starts. I guess Chargois got his chance to stick too. Yet Rosario was able to stick, a guy who can't even get on base 26% of the time and has an OPS in the low .600 playing a corner OF spot.... As far as ''Which is why I said let's see what happens this year, and expect to compete next year.' We've been reading that quote for a few years now and I'm guessing next year we'll see the game quote. Goal posts keep moving.
  8. From 1996 to now, Twins rotation is 10th out of 14 in WAR in the AL (only counting the teams with significant time in the AL at the time which excludes Brewers and the Astros). 21st in WAR (22nd in FIP) if extended to all of baseball. I say we lay down the 'we were a poor club in the Metrodome' card along with the 'Bill Smith' card (or what I like to call, the double-whammy) and be done with this whole nonsense about poor player development, poor trades and poor FA pickups :-) BTW, I'm pretty sure laying down those two cards in succession wins MLB's version of Dungeons and Dragons :-)
  9. Time to watch 'So I Married an Axe Murderer' again :-)
  10. This fascination for Zunino baffles me as much as many people's fascination for Muphy after TR got him. Murphy was, supposedly, a future all star, already an above average hitter and a good defensive guy, and was going to take over the starting job from Suzuki, relegating him to backup, THIS season. Didn't happen and Suzuki hasn't exactly set the bar high or anything.
  11. I have to say, at this point I have to lean towards development being the issue, I really do (and really always have). Don't walk people at any cost, emphasis inducing grounders (as opposed to saying, 'hey, striking out people is good way to get people out if you have that in your arsenal'), or basically, trying to make everyone Radke (and mostly failing at that).
  12. And you would never get anywhere in trade talks if you were. A 29 year old journeyman player having a career year (and is a drain defensively) isn't going to net a stud catching prospect. But maybe call Dave Stewart and see if he is willing. Always worth a shot :-)
  13. Murphy is hitless in his last 5 games (gotten on base once) and has 4 hits in his last 35 PA (or, 4 for July, if you will).
  14. ah, the trade from the future part. I was stuck on the going all in part. In that case, we can add Hu for Jepsen :-)
  15. Sorry, I was just asking. I have no idea. Stopped paying attention.
  16. How is Murphy doing down in Triple A?
  17. When was that time again? I can't recall. I'm not joking.
  18. There HAS to be a way to blame Bill Smith! :-)
  19. Boston clearly had the better chance since their GM almost assuredly called the Padres instead of waiting for the Padres to call them :-)
  20. I knew he had been sent down to Triple A, that's why I said I hope he's with the team next week. :-)
  21. that's unfortunate
  22. In a world that has Dave Stewart as MLB GM, everyone else battles for 29th while he firmly holds on to 30th.
