  1. Seems pretty sarcastic and I don't know why what I've written warrants that, but whatever. Do you think the 5 we have right now are all performing at the same exactly level? At present, I personally believe based on what I've seen along with historical pitching and stats I value, I'd say the four guys who should remain in the rotation when Santana comes back and joins it are: May, Gibson Hughes Pelfrey Those four plus Santana would be my five guys unless a trade can be worked. But that doesn't matter. Point is, they are not all the same. If there is at least one guy better than the others, he will get less starts than he would in a five man rotation in order to have an inferior pitcher start. This isn't theory. Whether or not it will hurt the production of the rotation overall is the debatable part. Then there's the possible addition to the number of pitchers overall we have and a smaller bench.
  2. 'If your rotation has an elite caliber pitcher, yes, you would be reducing the amount of innings provided to that arm. The Twins, however, do not have that type of starter at the present.' There are pitchers better on this rotation than others. They are not carbon copies of each other. Any way you slice it, any time you make a rotation larger, an inferior pitcher will pitch in games where a better starter could have pitched. 'On the whole, the rotation is decisively average. In theory, stretching out the arms is one way to increase production.' How does this stretch out their arms by pitching less games? It limits innings. 'Second, a pitcher's career prior to the majors did not always follow the four-day rest schedule. For instance, Berrios has had anywhere from five-to-seven days between some of his outings this year.' What are Pelfrey, Santana, and Milone used to? I said many not all and when in the majors, the routine is every five days, doesn't matter what they may have done in the minors at some point. 'My biggest hesitation to the six-man is having that many pitchers and reducing the bench (although the bench hasn't been great either).' I said this in my post. If we don't care about giving our team the best chances to win as many games this year as we can, then go with a 6 man rotation. Pitch inferior pitchers and mess with their routines instead of making a tough decision.
  3. 6 man rotations takes starts away from better pitchers and give starts to inferior pitchers. It also messes with routines many have had their whole career. It could also mean an even larger overall pitching staff and less bench. It's not a good idea.
  4. 69 games, 10 HR, 13 2B, 2 3B, a slash of .274/.378/.460. OPS+ of 133, wRC+ 133. Yeah, I'll take that. If Sano comes close to this for the remaining of the year, we should line up and do back flips. And Bryant isn't even the most impressive rookie this year.
  5. I think Pedroia is still right there with both those guys and he's consistently good. Kipnis is on and off while Dozier just keeps getting better. No 2B in the game has been better than Dozier since 2014, and this is even considering his defense is under-rated, IMO, by metrics.
  6. In almost 2.5 seasons with the Twins, he's been worth a hair under 15M. Definitely got what we paid for, such as it is.
  7. Congrats to Meyer for getting the call. He'll be fun to watch. I won't call him a kid, cause at 25 I don't think he is that, but it's nice to see more rookies being called up.
  8. it depends on what one looks at. If one looks at ERA he ranks 25th out of 103 qualified starters. So if ERA is your stat of choice, top 25%.
  9. I think it was Pete Rose. (though he was a manager).
  10. only if we stop looking at the actual numbers.
  11. How under-rated is Dozier? Today's Fangraphs chat: Comment From hscer How many of the current top 6 second basemen in 2015 WAR do you think you could name? Dave Cameron: Kipnis, Gordon, Panik, Wong are easy. Is Travis still in that mix, despite a month on the DL? Espinosa, maybe? Peterson?
  12. Hunter has been an ever so slightly below average overall RF this year (WAR). Averagish offensively (tied for 15th out of 27 in wRC+), well below average defensively (20th out of 22 in DRS). We have worse problems than him at this point.
  13. To me the question is fairly simple. If you were told you to pick the 3 best 2Bs in the game, would one of them be Dozier? If so, he's likely elite when taking into account position. Really it's a matter of opinion. The numbers suggest he very much is an elite 2B at this point.
  14. KC Fans have endured many, many years of futility, I am all for letting them enjoy the moment.
  15. Is this kind of like the question, 'What would you do for a Klondike bar?' :-)
  16. yeah, I'll take Fulmer, but good to read what you wrote there. thanks for the info.
  17. I don't think the powers to be actually figured his power numbers were there for good after only one season of having them. I would hope they wouldn't think that. That would be poor trend analysis. I think most FOs would have waited to see if Mauer was able to repeat 2009's power number before assuming 2009 was going to be the new norm. I certainly didn't expect him to continue that. Let's say he instead just won another batting title in 2009 (not exactly out of the norm for him at the time) and didn't have the power numbers jumping up too, that's still 3 batting titles in the last 4 years. He still gets a huge contract and likely the same one. I also doubt on-field production was the only thing being considered when they were considering his contract.
  18. would have been better, in regards to their luck with Arizona State players in general (not '70s), if they hadn't passed on Pedroia like 6 times in the draft.
  19. 'What's The Best Plan For Tyler Jay?' Find a time machine, go back to the day of the draft, and pick Fulmer instead? Is that an option?
  20. I never criticized the extension. I thought it was a very good idea at the time and that the Twins actually got a bargain.
  21. But that's not what you said, buddy. You said, 'As long as the twins are within 4 games at the trade deadline'. I remember Ryan trading Castillo back when we were, what 6-7 games back of a playoff spot? One of his reasons he said he did that was that he'd rather get something for him than not since he wasn't going to re-sign him, That went over like a ton of bricks with the fans and the players. So yes, like you said, that would send a horrible message. it could happen though.
  22. Dave, Assuming Pelfrey is being considered pitching at his bets. you don't want to trade a veteran at his high peak value while you can?
  23. IMO, we just don't have anyone that we know for sure is capable of being a truly major league caliber starting shortstop. And we haven't for a long time (save 2010). The debate back and forth on Santana or Escobar is fun, but it's sad these are our choices to begin with (though I'm sure they are nice people).
  24. How could it NOT be okay to be excited about the Twins right now? They are playing inspired ball, they seem to care, and they seem to always be competitive. Is this not exactly how we want our team to play?
  25. I believe Cameron talked a lot about sequencing to explain it and to explain why it likely doesn't continue. (which is clustering).
