    I was out of pocket for a bit having surgery. Thought maybe he was moved back and I hadn't heard.

    I have enjoyed this season. We've been able to see a lot of youngsters, we are still in the playoff hunt , and we'll win around 74, 75 games. It's an improvement and I'm happy with that. Yes, I wish more had been done at the deadline and there have been some moves I really had issues with, but overall, it's been a fun season.

    I know you didn't say anything about the Twins FO, but reading your quote I wondered if it extended to the Twins FO? Since, you know, they fit what you're saying more than the two examples you gave (TB and Atlanta) AND Oakland who has been to the playoffs the last three seasons. Also, for years, TB and Oakland got more win for the buck than pretty much anyone.

    I'm curious as to who is calling the Braves front office great. Oh, and you do know the Braves went to the playoffs in 2010,2012 and 2013, right?. And that they fired their GM after not making it in 2014 and have a new GM? You also know the Rays also have a brand new front office this season and have gone to the playoffs twice since the last time we went? P.S., does you post that apply to the Twins FO? Haven't made the playoffs since 2010 and haven't won a playoff series since 2002.

    it sure would be, but now is the time to get us ready for this. I'd rather see Rosario in LF, Buxton in CF, Hicks in RF, let Vargas and Arcia battle for DH

    I'm sticking to what I said early July. I'll be very happy if they win 75. I can't imagine them being able to finish with 81 or more wins. Our schedule remaining is rough and we've started sliding. I hope you are right Brock.

    Span was a 3.4 WAR with the Nats his first year.

    I'd argue that getting those three pitchers (two coming off injury and/or surgery, one not posting an ERA in the NL under 4.18 in three previous seasons, and all of them cheap), didn't come close to qualifying as doing everything he could to significantly improve the 2013 rotation. That's scrape the bottom of the barrel type shopping that, extremely predictably, did not come close to working out.

    3 teams have allowed a higher percentage of inherited runners to score than the Twins (Twins have allowed 34% to score) and only one team has allowed more actual inherited runners to score. Sorry, you said you didn't want to know. :-)

    remember the offseason before the 2013 season when he told the season ticket holders and possible season ticket holders in their annual banquet that he would do everything possible to significantly improve the rotation for 2013 and he went and got Worley, Pelfrey and Correia? Man of his word.

    Perhaps active shoppers (though not surprisingly no rumors to speak of as MLB Network pointed out tonight, so who knows), but inactive actual buyers.

    That and this has been his best month with overall OPS going into tonight. So why would a manager walk Hicks to get to Mauer when Mauer has been hitting very well with RISP all year. Because Hicks had a great game and walking him sets up a force at 3B, 2B (and, as always 1B) for out #3. And it didn't work anyway.

    did you forget the part where I said AND pay attention to defensive strategy. I have no doubt he's watched plenty of baseball.

Hicks has been very good lately and was having a good game. Check. He was walked and it set up a force out. Check.     yes it does. You need to watch more baseball besides the Twins and pay attention to defensive strategy.

    Mauer has been IBB 10 times this season in only 100 games. Only 5 batters in baseball have more and only 2 others have 10. What does that tell you about what managers think?

    I think we saw Seattle use a strategy that many teams do. I can see how people who like to dog Mauer could see it otherwise but watch enough baseball, it's smart strategy to set up a force at every base. It happens a lot even when there are two outs. But whatever. In other news, MLB Network is talking about how crazy it is that there is NO Twins talk at the deadline.

    Wait, so there wasn't a guy on 2B with two outs? Walking Hicks didn't set up a force out at every base? And Mauer didn't make them pay? That is exactly what happened? That is a strategy a lot of smart teams do. It's a smart thing to do regardless of the hitter. I see it all the time when I'm not watching the Twins. I understand we don't that often, kind of like how our pitchers, forever, don't throw stuff in the dirt on extreme pitchers count cause goodness forbid we throw a ball.

    doesn't matter. Still set up a force at all the bases in case of ground ball the 3rd out could be recorded at any base (excluding home for those who like to call that a base). It was good strategy no matter who the batter is, not an indictment of Mauer. And it didn't work, cause Mauer made him pay anyway.
