  1. Way too early for me. Wake me up when the games count. To the rest of you: have a great time threading!
  2. I get your logic. It's sound. It is no doubt what will happen. I just don't care to see Nunez playing baseball for the Twins. So the answer for Polanco is "later." I do look forward to seeing his mettle tested.
  3. We know Nunez's ceiling is pretty low, so I would hope, sooner rather than later, the Twins go with youth (Polanco) over the old guy with known limitations.
  4. Spiro is trying to roll over in his grave but he just can't quite do it.
  5. Spirow Agnew was a third-string catcher for the Washington Hucksters in the old Amurican Leeg from 1969-1973. He couldn't hit and he couldn't catch but he was known for his rhubarby language from the bench - which it turned out years after the fact - Yogi Berra had ghost written half his taunts at the opposing team. Here is a picture of the catcher who led the team in those years, wearing his baseball hat and all: http://tonyortega.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/Richard_Nixon.jpg
  6. We can rely on you, Seth, to think from a couple of angles at once. Thank you, thank you.
  7. I don't believe Theater (or the Arts in general) is comparable to MLB/MiLB which is one structural system built from the bottom to the top. Yes, winnowing out the inefficient players is part of the process, but why not spread some of of that extraordinary wealth throughout the minors? As is, the distinct impression one gets is that certain human lives (and more and more come from impoverished countries, mostly in the Caribbean and South America) don't matter while they're being used. Why not use them - and pay them a wage that is more in line with how much money is being made throughout MLB?
  8. Thanks for the source. Nice.
  9. Thanks for all the input, Seth. It seems strange to me that a database containing the salaries of all minor league players is not available. While not a coverup, it certainly isn't a full, proud, accounting. You mention that because Bernier got a week of major league experience that his minor league salary went up because of that? Or it went up overall? Anyway, not vitally important. Overall, just wish there was a way to look at income throughout the TWINS system.
  10. What minor league players earn is a travesty. That is a given. This is not a topic about how to rectify this, but that would be okay to discuss as well. I am interesting in finding out exactly what specific minor league ball players have earned or are earning. Doug Bernier came up in a thread today (The Twins released him). He's 35 years old. Out of curiosity I would like to know how much he has earned throughout his career. Does anyone know if this information is available, and if so, where may I find it. All thanks.
  11. Someone had to say the obvious (about Mauer). Thank you.
  12. Oh come on you boo'd Luke Hughes and Kubler TOO!
  13. Your analysis is superior to mine. I will have to look into the advanced metrics (wRC+). Thanks for the push.
  14. I hope you're right about Polanco. He has committed a ton of errors in the minors, mostly at SS, which is where he has mostly played. At 2B he seems to have done better. He's only 22. When will we finally see more of this young man at a Twins uniform?
  15. Throughout the minor leagues and during his brief stint in the majors, Hicks has thrown out 47% of base stealers. 47%! Also, it he looks like he hit fine throughout the minors. An overall OPS of .734. I like this pickup and look forward to seeing him in action.
  16. Nick, do you know anything more definite about the condition of his knees? He has had multiple surgeries and was forced to retire because of them. I would think the Twins did their due diligence (as they say) on this subject. What can we expect?
  17. Nice to see you taking your early spring training swings, Chief.
  18. It doesn't necessarily mean that. It could be they want to keep their best hitters hitting so that meant keeping Plouffe (I personally wished they had traded him for a pitcher) and getting Park and finding a place for Sano who, I think, looked pretty nimble at 3B last year.
  19. Just the facts: Sprains left shoulder August 2011 ... finishes with OPS .838. Traded in the off-season from White Sox to Padres. Opens 2012 on the DL after having surgery on his right knee. He does well, gets an extension, but his knee fails in September and has surgery on it again after the season ... OPS .877 In July 2013 his right knee gives out AGAIN, and his season is over ... OPS .855 Prior to 2014 gets traded to Seattle who sends him to the minors after awful start. He retires. 2 years later he signs a MiLB deal with the Twins. OPS has always been high. In his age 33 year. Perhaps his knee is all fixed up. I doubt it.
  20. An alternative spelling of DFA is PTBNL and vice verse.
  21. I never heard of Kasota Gold until now. I googled "kasota gold" and then clicked Images and what comes up? Twins uniforms. I infer from this that the term has just been invented by marketers wearing ties cutting off clear circulation to their throats. Or am I wrong? I have been wrong before.
  22. Everything else goes downhill, your eyes just take the lead.
  23. Re your second point. Because limiting pitching changes is never going to happen, and the steep increase in use of relief pitching has become ABUSIVE to the flow and fan interest in the game, it seems only logical and a matter of time before MLB adds 3 more spots to the roster. Bench depth has been getting short-shrifted for what, going on 30 yeras?
  24. There's no way around it. One reason last year was possible was that we had 3 above average outfielders. Now we seem to have 1, maybe. Rosario in not a lock to repeat last season, let alone improve on it. Santana has not proven that he is a mediocre defender and an inconsistent hitter. It seems for the time being the Twins OF has regressed badly. Bring on Kepler and Buxton, when and if they're ready, and things may change in a hurry.
