  1. I'm sick of The Twins yearly September Swoon: Swoon: "to become unconscious," probably from a lost Old English verb *swogan (as in Old English aswogan "to choke"), of uncertain origin. Compare Low German swogen "to sigh." Choke, and then sigh.
  2. I think his glove is made of gold, and he got the concept wrong.
  3. I predict the Twins win this one, BIG. BIG comeback. big comeback.
  4. From the limited amount of time I've seen him play at SS, he doesn't seem like he has the soft hands for it. It's a feeling. It's a hunch. But perhaps Santana hasn't been penciled at SS yet because they don't know if he can handle it. With that said, we need to see more of him there to know. (of course, one assumes that the coaches already have seen him plenty, and know more than we do.)
  5. Fine article, but I take exception to: "The class of Mauer, Morneau, Cuddyer, Baker, et al, has been wasted ... this class failed to bring a championship to Minnesota." Wasted and failed? I don't think so. The Twins won six championships in nine years. However, with the multi-layered playoff system now in place, a "World Series championship" is more than ever a crapshoot. The Atlanta Braves have it worse, in that they won only one World Series in 22 years of being a dominant team. Since 1991, they played in 26 post-season series, won 15 of them (a winning percentage of .577), yet they won only one World Series. Were those years wasted? Did they fail? I don't think so. I think it reflects the "any can win if they get to the post season" nature of the MLB these days. With that said, the Twins post season futility has been disgusting. I'm aware of that.
  6. I am more concerned with Dozier's drop in stolen bases. He has 5 since June 16. That's 5 in 3 months, which would work out to 15 per year. Is this what we can expect going forward? If, as someone noted, his OBP is up, why have his stolen bases dropped so sharply?
  7. I love TC, hate M. TC is classy, and classic; mysterious and just right.
  8. Has it really been 9 years since Jacque Jones played out there?
  9. Rothsay. I had to look it up.
  10. Brian, Your Dave Goltz story beats mine by six, but wind and Fergus Falls made me do it.
  11. Great, great story. I have one that doesn't involve a major leaguer, but it's set in Fergus Falls and there is wind involved. I hit two homeruns in one inning when I was playing JC ball for Crookston. Two homeruns in one inning. That very rarely happens to anyone, at any level. So it sounds pretty freaking spectacular. But it was because the wind was blowing like 50 mph, straight out to center field, and I wasn't the only one hitting the ball around. It was mostly funny because I wasn't capable, actually, of hitting any homeruns at all.
  12. Stone seems to pay more attention to the Twins than he does the White Sox. I like it.
  13. Where's Hawk? Did he go out for a scotch and soda and never come back?
  14. All I know is I look forward to his at bats. That's a good sign. (Also don't trust him, of course.)
  15. The person I've seen enough of is Nunez. We know what he can do. No need to see anymore. Next!
  16. I get that feeling a lot.
  17. If Pinto hits .340 again this September, then I think we should call him up every September!
  18. I had no idea. They've never mentioned this simple fact on TV (when I've been watching). Also, I don't live in MN, and haven't for some years. So I've never been inside (or outside) the new park, which I would have called Puckett Park by the way.
  19. I have a fundamental question. What was the thinking behind making Target Field with the dimensions it has? I've never heard it talked about. Why such a big park? in other words. Who decided, and why, etc. Anybody know something about it?
  20. That's like predicting light rain after heavy rain. It's something though. Go May.
  21. And there's always the possibility of extra innings.
  22. But he has to be better than this. He has to be. He will be.
  23. It was the last year they played 154, but it was the first year the American League played 162. So it only took the Senior Circuit one year to catch up to the Junior Circuit (?) on that one, but the DH has been in effect for 42 years and they still haven't come around.
  24. I have a trivia question: In 1961, how many games did National league teams play?
