  1. Does seem a bit inconsistent with their stated "wait and see" approach and reluctance to add high end talent to the roster.
  2. Little Jake needs to have a 1909 Honus Wagner and the 1952 Mickey Mantle cards in place before he splurges on the Harper.
  3. Realmuto, Machado,Harper and Andujar are all players that directly fit the mold and definition of what the Twins should be looking to acquire - young with many projectable years. That being said if your farm has the supposed depth of Minnesota's, deals for JT and/or Andujar should be available without the inclusion of Lewis and Kirilloff. Those two are pretty much off limits from my perspective.
  4. Falvey's "prudent decisions" are open for anyone's interpretation, so no I haven't misconstrued anything - in my opinion of course.
  5. If your fear of failure trumps your desire to compete you may be in the wrong position.
  6. Your laundress just donated her paycheck to the Yankees sign Machado fund.
  7. So you're saying Cron's going to become a World Series winning manager? From this day forward Rocco's on thin ice............
  8. Sisyphusian....rock solid analogy.
  9. Korn-Ferry.....that is all.
  10. That's why the FO's first call last week should have been to Brian Bridges and Roy Clark.
  11. Xander Bogaerts anyone? That's one worth pursuing in my estimation.
  12. Interesting and agreed that there would hopefully not be many misses in the top 5. Historically the Twins have had twelve top 5 first round picks. I suppose you could say the jury is still out on the last four - Lewis, Gordon, Stewart and Buxton. Of the remaining eight only Mauer and Belcher (whom they did not sign) had significant careers. Add Travis Lee (also whom they did not sign) if you choose. Had high hopes for a couple others -Banks and McCarty. A few were head scratchers - Adam Johnson, Garbe and Oelkers. I would hope their first round hit rate improves but a look through the Twins' drafts shows how difficult the task is. The draft along with the international market is the foundation of those organizations that have sustained success. Build your assets.....
  13. God, let's hope that's not necessary...........
  14. Success guaranteed if he can bring 3 Fingers Brown with him...
  15. Hall of Famer on and off the diamond. Thank you Joe.
  16. Laying low? Better hope Admiral Sperry doesn't plant a flag on him....
  17. "shots in the air" ? Chances are he didn't hit anything.
  18. You may want to enter that one into the 2019 Twins slogan contest....
  19. Anyone who deems Ervin's comments insensitive may want to steer clear of locker rooms in general.......
  20. You missed a couple. 1971 : 74-86 1975 : 76-83 1978 : 73-89 My limited math skills count that as 16 games under .500 for the 1971-1979 era.
  21. Valid points but we'll have to disagree on the import of free agency and it's effects on the Twins' ability to compete in the 1970's. They were sub .500 from 1971-1979 (excluding of course the previously discussed 1970 playoff season.) Along with Griffith's inability / reluctance to participate in free agency, I would consider a flagging farm system as the other primary reason for a mediocre decade. Two studs were produced (Blyleven & Bostock) and three others were successes to varying degrees (Goltz, Campbell & Wynegar.) Throw in Tom Johnson and Steve Braun if you wish. The revitalization of the farm led to the successes of the mid to late 80's. Free agency cost them Bostock, Hisle, Campbell and Goltz among others, but also forced the trades of Carew and Blyleven. Just one man's opinion.
