So with no Hicks, no Rosario, and no Buxton on the 25 man roster, what's the point of having Torii under contract again? It's hard to mentor people who are several states away.

Of Gibson and May, I'd trade Gibson. I see too many shades of Nick Blackburn and Joe Mays when he pitches to get very excited about him long term. Not that I'm penciling May into the HOF just yet by any means, but I like his secondary offerings and historical durability better than what I see in Gibson. But yeah, that potential rotation (especially now, with a new pitching coach on board) is really hard NOT to get over-the-top excited about isn't it?

This is awesome! If you need someone to cover the German Bundesliga, I'll happily be that guy!

Yes. There's this Miguel Sano kid that looks pretty promising at 3B.

If Trevor Plouffe is the reason Miguel Sano isn't playing 3B at Target Field by April 15th, there's probably no reason to to watch the Twins this year. Put it this way, 2014 really needs to be to Trevor Plouffe what 1988 was to Henry Cotto. Not that Plouffe is a bad player, he's far from bad. It's just that the guy who is coming up behind him has a very real chance to be special. There's nobody on the roster that should keep a guy like Sano down.

I don't mean to go too far off topic, but that is more or less the same as Torii Hunter's career line. With his age 39 season coming up, I think "meh" is going to be a pretty optimistic projection.

If Plouffe can't play and the first guy they call up is Nuñez, I'm going to go catatonic.

Plouffe is a good, but not great, player. His defense has really come along, and his bat -- while not perfect -- has been relatively steady the last few years. If they didn't have Sano or Rosario set to leave Plouffe without a regular position in the very near future, and if the Seager contract hadn't happened yet, then I would consider extending him. However, there's no way any player on the 25 man roster is currently worth a contract like Seager's. And that's what it might take to retain Plouffe for the long term. I wouldn't be opposed to the Twins approaching Plouffe with a 3-4 year contract offer and a warning that he's going to have to get to (and stay at) near all-star level form in order to keep his spot in the starting lineup. At this point I think the Twins would do well to wait and see how Sano and Rosario do in spring training. If they look anywhere near ready to go at the MLB level, I would start shopping Plouffe pretty aggressively. I would want at least a Trevor May-level return for him, and if I couldn't get it then I would have zero problem turning Plouffe into a rich man's Denny Hocking.

The thing about Dozier is that he's had half a great season, one and a half ok/good seasons, and half a season where he didn't do anything that made him remotely resemble a passable major leaguer on a halfway decent team. And he's already 27. In other words, he looks like your fairly high floor, fairly low ceiling type of player that TR has been good at finding in recent years. If it was up to me, I'd look for good seasons from Santana and Polanco. If you get the results you're looking for from them, then try to move Dozier at the deadline. With Dozier being at a relatively advanced age during his breakout half-season, and having posted streaky results on either side of that half-season, it's really difficult for me to get too jazzed about his place in future Twins teams. It'd be nice to see if TR can turn Dozier into another Liriano/Boof/Nathan kind of deal in the relatively near future IMO.

Meh. He was a fantastic pitcher at his high point, but I can't really get behind trading for him now. I think it makes much more sense to continue stockpiling young power arms like Meyer, May, Berrios, Stewart, etc. If there was one pitcher on the Jays that I'd like to see the Twins pursue, it's Drew Hutchison. It'd probably cost a King's ransom to get him, but a rotation topped by Hughes, Hutcison, and Meyer as soon as this year is pretty appealing!
