  1. I don't think McKay is smoke. Calllis has written on MLB.com and just did a interview with Fantasy Sports Radio (he reposted it in his twitter account) That other teams have McKay at the top of their lists too. He names the Rays as one of those teams. The problem is there no clear #1, but that doesn't mean teams don't have them ranked 1-3. If Greene's floor is now pick 2, Gore 3, McKay is 4, and Wright/Lewis in the 5-7 range you might think the Twins would draft Wright or Lewis to save the most money. But what if they have Wright a tier bellow McKay and Greene? Why not Draft McKay, save some money and get the higher ranked guy? What if they do have a deal with mid round high school pitcher for pick 35. Would the Twins consider going back to back high school arms? There are very strong odds McKay is the pick.
  2. Ben Badler profiled servral DR prospects inculding a "Twins target". Who was it? Jelfry Marte or a new name?
  3. According to MLB pipeline's last podcast: http://mlb.mlb.com/fan_forum/podcasts/index.jsp?c_id=mlb&podcast=mlb_pipeline Sounds like Greene at 2 to the Reds is the most likely possibility (If the Twins don't take him). They project the Twins to wait it out, see who's price drop, but all things equal, take Wright. This seems odd to me, the idea has been that The Padres would of course take Greene at 3. Now it's the Reds would absolutely do it at 2. But the Twins at 1? He's in the mix but not the favorite. Feels like experts are crafting storylines more than projecting the best value to the top drafting team. I’m sure the Twins will take Wright. I’m sure he fits with the team's playoff window better. But for a team with a lack of top 100 prospects, seems odd the Twins wouldn’t consider Greene as the favorite with Wright as the fall back/ price saver.
  4. My guess is he'll have a body closer to a NFL Tight End or a Defensive End, then a Offensive tackle or Running Back. The videos show more of an athletic build. Right Fielder is a good projection. Center Fielder, no, not at all.
  5. Twins linked to Venezuelan OF Carlos Aguiar. Reported by Doogie Wolfson on his podcast last weekend, and Ben Badler of Baseball America. Not much out there, he born 8/28/01, so he'll be young for the signing period. He's already 6-3 190. Left handed power bat. Looks like a corner outfielder. Domincan Prospect League calls him a "toolsy outfielder with an athletic frame, strong arm, and lots of raw power...has a loose swing, with a lot of torque, which he is able to control. His swing mechanics are very similar to that of Oscar Taveras."
  6. Gary Sanchez finally broke in with the Yankees. That was a strong draft class. Max Kepler was that year too. Also I forgot about Wagner Mateo. I think he never got out of A ball...
  7. Yeah only a few guys on this list arn't already connected to a team. Those connections turn out to be pretty accurate. It been nice to see the Twins go after one more blue chipper, but history shows us biggest bonus isn't always the best prospect down the line... Unless your Sano.
  8. I agree. One of the reasons I'm still in the Greene #1, only as a pitcher camp. I think there must be a NL adapted program that could keep McKay doing both to start off with and then focus on what he's good at as a professional. I mean, they tried Sano at SS for a year before shutting the door. What if Mckay did both of the 1st year in Appy or the midwest and put up okay numbers as a LHP, but monsters numbers as a 1B? Why not keep that oddr open for a year if McKay is the pick?
  9. Or in otherwords, if you wanted to save 1.5-1.75 million to get great value at pick 35. Who'd you expect to draft 1 and 37 to get them?
  10. I was looking at MLB.com new top 100 draft prospects: http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2017?list=draft and it got me thinking about if you could convince a middle round high school pitcher (like Sam Carlson or Shane Baz) to fall to us with our 30's pick, how much would you need to save or who would you have to draft number 1 to get the savings you'd need to sign him? How about if you over drafted a second round like Brent Rooker, a fan favorite of some here? Who would you except to draft #1 with that kind of combo?
  11. That's part of the problem. You do the 'right' thing and go to college to get an education and play ball, you don't leave early, maybe your on scholarship, maybe not a full ride. But any debt you walk out you have no way of paying off once you sign that 1 grand deal. Then you don't leave early and stay all 4 years and that "hurts you". Then you need to get a credit card just to survive. More debt. Hoping you don't get hurt with an injury that affects you for the rest of your life. But it your choice after all they can always get someone from Latin America to do it for just as cheap (just hope those guys don't get an "on the job" Injury, they can get fired and lose their Visa). If this was the meat packing industry or any other industry we'd be disgusted with how people are treated for doing the right thing. But it's baseball, the game we love. We look the other way. But saying people have a choice to give them less then they need to live or they can walk away for basicly life, show's an abuse in a system, and that feels agenst the values we say we value. And on a diffrent note, Thanks to Jermey fo all he does. the time and info he puts in helps make this site. And congrats to everyone who got drafted.
  12. I'd be more sympathetic to that argument if they paid players at least the minimum wage once they get there. But the combination, just shows without representation in the negotiations players get treated horribly. It make minimum wage laws seem absolutely necessary.
  13. With the 100,000 Under 10th draft limit plus the 224,600 they've saved, means they can offer someone 5th round money (or spread it out to a few guys). Interesting to see how the top 10 settles out.
  14. Read up a little more on Timothy (TJ) Collett the 40 pick. Gatorade player of the year in Kentucky, strong commit to the University of Kentucky, seen as a high draft pick earlier on, local scouts seemed to think he was a top five prep catcher talent. Congratulated Baddoo on getting drafted by the Twins (on twitter), showing a picture of them at target field after batting pratice. Didn't mention getting drafted himself. My guess is he asked for too much to get him out of his commitment to college and is the type of player who will get drafted in the top two rounds after 3 years of strong college ball. Like Puk and Shore did this year.
  15. http://www.minorleagueball.com/2016/6/11/11909394/2016-mlb-draft-day-three-live-blog 6th to last comment or so in the comment section. Went with Eric Lauer #1.
  16. MLB also mentioned #40 pick Collett as a C with big Lefty power (ala Kyle Schwarber) so I'm guessing another strong college commit they'd take a flyer on if they can offer the right price.... if there is a right price.
  17. True there isn't a direct connection. You don't trade Hicks for a catcher, call Ryan a potential starter and then trade Plouffe for a catcher a few weeks later (unless it's an elite, too stupid to pass up and couldn't plan for talent). A Plouffe for MLB catching deal only happens after Ryan gets a shot. So if Kurt gets hurt, Ryan gets a lot of at-bats, and if by June or July it's clear Ryan is NOT a starting catcher then you can entertain a trade like that. Mauer is just a question mark to some, if he stops playing regularly Pouffe could get more at bats at 1st base then last year, and then trading Plouffe is less likely. Even with Vargas, Park, and Kepler in the fold, TR would want more "Veterans" in the lin up.
  18. The Twins could also trade Plouffe midyear, or next year. For more or less return depending on how he does. By then we may know if Sano can be a outfielder, or if Park can hit in the MLB, or if Mauer rebounds, or if Murphy is a MLB average catcher. If one of those things is still a question make, you still can trade Plouffe to solve it. Right now he's not bring in an ace starter and relievers seem low.
  19. I like Pinto a lot too, but is he still a catcher? Hasn't done so in a while after the all the head injuries. If the Twins think of him as more a DH, isn't he already blocked 3 times over?
  20. Vargas has always been a personal favorite of mine, so I'd like to see the Twins keep him, in case Park isn't ready for a starting spot, or an Injury. and just in case he goes all David Ortiz..... For him personally, making 10 times what he would in AAA or twice what he would with the Twins is good security and if he does well he'll become a free agent the following year with his pick of any team in either hemisphere... so it's probably a good move for him as a player.
  21. Good question. I supported the trade in theory or in general because, I always felt the Twins should trade OF depth for C depth. There was a hole in the system for some time, so I liked that TR did this instead of losing OF to the wavier wire (which might still happen). I also remember a year and a half ago when some fan (and some annoying members of the media) proclaimed Hicks was done or a lost cause, and there were too many chances being given. So that fact they waited until Hicks regain value was not a bad plan. Also the catching market is turning out to be weaker after two top FA decided not to try free agency. Flipping it. I think the Twins should have gone for a catching prospect with more of a ceiling, if they'd had be able to do this a couple years ago they could have timed that players ascension with the rest prospect wave. I think success at Target field might come from OF range and having a future outfield of Roserio, Buxton, and a Hicks that lived up to his potential would have been great. Also I have no feel on Murphy, Maybe he's a back-up, a regular, or a late bloomer who will look like a Norris in a future. I can say he looks like a MLB player so the Twins will get some value from him.
  22. I hope he does too. Even though there a good chance he comes back, it's not automatic. And what his fastball or off speed stuff will look like afterwards is unknown. I guess a few spots drop is fine, he can always bonce back and regain his status on prospect lists next year.
  23. What can I say, I'm a smart dude. Value is perceived. If someone has to sell their car and you know it, you can low ball them. If they don't have to sell it and can hold on to it, your more likely to offer more in return. Ryan is letting teams know he doesn't have to sell Plouffe, but has a surplus he can draw from. I hope other GM's got that message.
  24. Agreed. If Ryan didn't say this, he lower Plouffe value, by letting teams know he could trade him but doesn't have to it A, keeps Plouffe value and B, if he ends up trading somebody else instead, doesn't make it feel like a failure if Plouffe is still on the team come April.
  25. Maybe it was posted somewhere else, but after I noticed he wasn't on a roster I checked his twitter page and it looks like Jack Barrie was released. After the promotions from the DSL and larger number of corners guys drafted this year I didn't think there would be a lot of at bats for guys who played 1st or 3rd, guess he was one of the one the Twins had the least faith in going forward. Big bonus, big power, hope he finds a place to play in the future.
