  1. He won't get many doubles down the LF line anymore because they're playing him about 15 feet off the line. Is he even capable of pulling the ball other than grounders to 2B? Does he even try? He's the master of the "useless hit". Doesn't get hits when the game is close but always when behind 8-2 in the 8th. But he's untouchable to mgmt.
  2. The youngsters need to play every day. The question is should it be in AAA or the majors? Is flailing away in the majors better than doing well in AAA? Personally I think TR gave in to fan pressure and rushed everyone up before they were ready.
  3. "Baseball, like life, is all about adjustments, and hopefully these young players will be able to do just that." Exactly. The league has learned how to pitch to these guys - low outside breaking balls to Sano, anything but strikes to Rosario, any breaking ball to Buxton, no more high inside fastballs to Dozier. It's frustrating to see the lack of adjustment by them in return.
  4. I think their "plan" was simply for the younger players to get better. Rosario & Sano had good years but pitchers have learned their weaknesses and they haven't adjusted. Sano apparently did nothing in the off season except gain weight. Rosario will swing at anything. Buxton & Kepler should spend most of the year in AAA learning to hit instead of flailing away in the majors. We're seeing the peril of having a young, immature, inexperienced team with no leadership on the field. They really miss Hunter. Remember 1982 and 102 losses with young Hrbek, Gaetti, Brunansky, Laudner, & Viola. It's takes times for youngsters to figure it out. And sometimes they never do.
  5. Buxton only has 55 AB in AAA. He's going to struggle at the plate. I think they're rushing him to appease the fans. But with Sano lumbering around RF they need his range in CF.
  6. I have a feeling he'll be back at DH before the end of May. I don't think the Korean guy will be able to hit major league pitching. Look for Kepler to be in RF.
  7. Are the Twins actually trying to DO something about the Mauer problem? Have they suggested that maybe he should change his approach? Stop taking that first pitch down the middle? Pull the ball into the huge right-center gap they're giving him? Have they mentioned to him that his production is simply not good enough for a #3 hitter? Maybe this is being done behind the scenes but they really seem to be afraid of addressing the problem. And it IS a problem.
  8. What I noticed about Hicks is that he hit much better when he went to the plate swinging rather than trying to "work the count". He's a terrible two-strike hitter so don't let him get to that point. When he gets a hittable pitch, hit it! It doesn't matter if it's the first pitch or the seventh. Just hit it.
  9. Hicks seems to be a much better hitter when he abandons the "work the count" approach that has infested the game. When you get a hittable pitch, HIT IT! Doesn't matter if it's the first pitch or the 8th. You might only get one hittable pitch per at bat. Don't waste it. Hicks is helpless when he gets two strikes so don't let it get to that point.
