  1. <scrolls up to top> Yes, you did have it on there. <hangs head in shame>
  2. Other than much of what determines a player's value to his organization comes from his salary, age, and future seasons. If you throw those things out, the Twins should clearly trade Lewis, Kiriloff, Graterol, Larnach, Sano, Garver, and Berrios for Trout. After all, by MLB WAR, Trout is better than all 7 of those players this year combined.
  3. That's why I answered twice. If my name is Jeff Bezos, and I just bought a team with the sole goal of winning a world series, no matter the cost, Trout. In literally any other scenario, Acuna is a vastly superior option. Also, while I'm sure voters don't take contracts into account for MVP consideration, they probably should. Bellinger on a rookie contract is massively more valuable than Trout on his contract. In fact, if a metric that divided WAR by salary existed, Trout is probably not one of the 25 most valuable players ion the league by that measure--he might not even be top 50.
  4. Serious baseball take. Can we put Arraez in the leadoff spot, move Kepler to two, Sano cleanup, Polanco fifth, and Rosario to the 6-spot? I would really like Araaez' professional PA's to come before our power, rather than after.
  5. Don't forget this rabbit. It closely approximates what the Twins lineup does to opposing pitchers.
  6. In a vacuum? There is no player I wouldn't trade straight up for Trout. In the real world? I'd rather have Acuna. Acuna will cost the Braves a maximum of $123M for the next 9 years--a time period in which he will probably post more WAR than Trout who will have cost a minimum of $329M. What do you think you might be able to do with an average of $22.9M every year for the next 9 years?
  7. You could argue that in a macro sense, Mike Trout is the least valuable player in baseball. The Angels are currently 63-66; subtract Trout's 8.4 WAR, and that drops to 55-74. In other words, Mike Trout single-handedly drags the Angels to mediocrity, ensuring they don't get access to the premier talent at the top of the draft, or the larger bonus pool needed to get talent in the second and third round. The Angels can't enter a full-scale rebuild, dumping veterans to buttress the farm system, and throwing their own prospects out to see who sticks. Over the past 7 full seasons, the Angels are 584-550 (average of 83-79). Take out Mike Trout's 64.2 WAR, and they're now 520-614 (average of 74-88); to put that in perspective, over the same timeframe, the Twins have been 507-627 (average of 72-90). Further, while there is no other player the Angels could get to replace Mike Trout, his large salary (along with Pujols and Upton), prevent the Angels from getting immediate help. Put another way, Kepler and Polanco have combined for 7.4 WAR this year (88% of Trout), but at 25% of the cost, leaving the Twins $26M free to play with. Is Mike Trout the best player in baseball? Currently there is no doubt that he is, and perhaps the best ever. Is he the most valuable? At least in my opinion, no.
  8. Assuming (and this is a big assumption) that everyone is healthy for September and the playoffs, Cave would barely be hitting anyways; Rosario, Buxton, and Kepler will start every single game. Therefore, your 4th outfielder needs to be either a clear defensive upgrade to negate the offensive downgrade (advantage Hamilton), or a firestarter on the bases (advantage Hamilton). Jake Cave serves little purpose in the postseason. Hamilton serves potentially immense purpose in the postseason.
  9. Easy. Cron to the 13-day IL (for Sep 1 purposes) to make room for Hamilton. You're not missing Cron' bat right now, as his thumb clearly is still not right (.221/.284/.382 OPS, 69 wRC+ in 19 second half games). Cave to AAA when Cruz is ready. Sano plays every day at 1st, Gonzalez and Adrianza take third base, and a combo of Hamilton (maybe once), Gonzalez, Adrianza, and Arraez handle the outfield until Buxton gets back.
  10. I don't know that outrage is the right word here. I think annoyance is a better term. If that ball slips a little bit when the pitcher throws it, maybe it hits Kepler in the head. Maybe it hits him in the wrist, breaks a bone, and Kepler is done for the year. Neither of those are implausible, and both would be ridiculous, given that the beaning was in retaliation for a hitter attempting to hit. If the Rangers don't want the Twins to try up 8 in the 9th, then forfeit. Otherwise shut up and play the damn game.
  11. Also, has anyone noticed that when Eddie isn't running full speed, he looks like he's never moved faster than walking speed in his life?
  12. If anyone out there is watching the youtube feed... Hader is a terrible actor. Zero facial expressions.
  13. I'm sure he is, but I doubt that affects his decision making right now.
  14. Rocco likes to play fast and loose with his pen as regards rest.
  15. It's official--Boston takes down the Tribe. Win today, and we erase all the damage from the series this past weekend.
  16. I feel like I have never seen a team hit into more air DP's than this Twins team.
  17. Interesting move by Counsell here--he only has two guys left on the bench now, Braun and his backup catcher. With the 9 spot guaranteed to come up at least twice more today, there will be some pitcher PA's for Milwaukee.
  18. Self Quote; as Gibson is due up 2nd in the top of the 6th, he will be given the opportunity to finish this inning, but will absolutely be pinch hit for in the 6th.
  19. "Without beer, I never realized how boring this game is"
  20. Gibson throws way too many noncompetitive pitches. If he could just cut down on easy takes, he'd be so much more effective.
  21. Two things can be true at once; it's true Polanco is a really nice player, the kind that teams like the Twins need in order to have sustained runs of competitiveness. It's also true that Jorge's OPS was .719 in June, .731 in July, and .704 thus far in August. That is nearly a half season of production that would place him firmly in the mid-20's for MLB SS's.
  22. Pitcher on deck, do not give him anything to hit. Walk is fine.
