  1. No, but now it is too late for a couple of innings.
  2. Bases loaded, they've got us right where they want us.
  3. I'm actually optimistic about Sano, after looking closer. His OBP is .285, despite a .105 babip--that can't possible stay that low. If the babip hits even .200, and Sano maintains his current approach (only swinging at 25.5% of pitches out of the zone, while making close to career average contact), he should normalize to a useful hitter, although probably not a true middle of the order one.
  4. Astudillo is really crowding the plate--I have to think so long as pitches are kept on the inner third, he's gonna get jammed and pop up a lot--like he just did.
  5. The big difference for Kepler in 2019 was he pulled the ball 53.4% of the time (no other season comes in higher than 44.3%). He also made a career high amount of hard contact (42.4%, not other season higher than 37.1%). As a result, his HR/FB rate was also a career high at 18% (no other season higher than 15.2%. I'm not super sure 2021 Kepler is 2017/2018/2020 Kepler though; yes, it's early, but he is walking less, striking out more, and hitting more ground balls. If that continues, Kepler will have very little value, and 2023 will undoubtedly be his last season in MN (if he makes it that far).
  6. Every degree Celsius is 1.8 degrees Fahrenheit, so 6 degrees C is technically 42.8 degrees F. Therefore, if the temperature is 41.5 to 41.84 degrees F, it's actually 5 degrees C. If 41.85 degrees or higher, than yes, it's 6 degrees C.
  7. Miguel Sano first pitch strike percentage: 2019--56.5% 2020--59.5% 2021--68.8% Career--58.1% Willians Astudillo first pitch strike percentage: 2019--64.7% 2020--75.0% 2021--85.7% Career--68.3% Think that's because of Astudillo swinging at all the first pitches, turning balls into stikes? Miguel Sano percent of pitches in the zone 2019--39.1% 2020--38.1% 2021--35.3% Career--41.2% Willians Astudillo percent of pitches in the zone 2019--40.3% 2020--36.6% 2021--50.9% Career--40.6% So no, Astudillo is not getting way more balls to start his at bats.
  8. For the season? -0.60. For just today? -2.86. Based on this, I think it's safe to assume xFIP doesn't take inherited runners scored into consideration.
  9. Based on what I saw in the top of the 5th, no one wearing powder blue seems to care much about winning right now. I get that it's hard when you're in the field for 30 minutes as your pitchers walk hitters left and right, I get that they might be distracted by other things right now, but this whole team seems to have adopted Rocco's seeming "aw shucks, didn't work out, get 'em next time, I guess" demeanor. I was a proponent of letting Rosario walk in the offseason, but if he would bring even a modicum of fire and passion to this team, I would love to have him back.
  10. Bear me out here, because this is kind of a crazy idea, but.... What if we sent Sano down to Single A to see if he can be fixed?
  11. I disagree, I really miss Buxton. Edit, ninja'd by SampleSize
  12. I guess this is our game to get a bunch of duck snorts.
  13. Here's a question--if this game goes to the 8th inning, does a runner start at second?
  14. We're all set up to lose in extra innings (i.e., the 9th) again today!
  15. Around the league, the Astros are essentially putting 44% of their starting lineup on the IL. https://www.mlb.com/news/altuve-bregman-alvarez-go-on-injured-list No word on MLB.com on the reason, so I have to assume it's not injury related, but rather illness related. MLBTR references the Astros' GM as saying it's due to "health and safety protocols".
  16. True. Also, if nothing is important, neither is everything.
  17. For your inter-game reading amusement. https://www.mlb.com/news/rules-changes-to-be-tested-in-atlantic-league-in-2021 I'm somewhat intrigued by the idea of the double-hook (as a ploy to incent teams to keep the starter in longer), but since this would only impact 1-2 PA's a game, I'm not sure how much of an impact it would have. I think a more interesting move would be to grant the opposing team a base for all runners every time a team brings in a relief pitcher who is the 4th or greater to be brought in. If the bases are empty, it would be a walk for whomever is due up.
  18. No, he hit a sharp liner down the left field line that landed about a foot foul. if it lands fair, Cave scores with ease, and Sano is at second with only one out.
  19. With Cave set to lead off the 7th, and playing in center, what possible reason is there to not put Buxton out there in his place?
  20. What a waste of an inning. But hey, at least we didn't strike out, amirite?
  21. Of course it is. Now, is it probable? I think not.
