  1. Wow, Ober's command is razor-sharp today. Right now he looks like the Twins' best pitcher, and it's not even close.
  2. If "gravity defying" is synonymous with "elevated," then Topa's slider does not exactly inspire confidence, unless it's in hitters. An elevated slider can go an awfully long way in the wrong direction.
  3. My god, you're right. 19 year old Bert was a gangly young man, all elbows and knees. What a curveball...I think he got about 19 whiffs on curves in his first game. Maybe Bert can give Festa a few tips... ;-)
  4. I wanna call David Festa, "Elbows." He's so rangy and gangly, seems like his elbows stick out half a foot farther than average. When he pulls his hands in, he looks like a preying mantis. Elbows, knees, pointy shoes...How does he make a baseball go anywhere?? And yet, seems he does it with little problem. All those angles turn into pitches pretty much where he wants, plenty fast, spinning about right, etc. Gangly angles, lanky limbs and all, David Festa is getting it done.
  5. Gotta tell ya, this Twins squad is looking pretty solid. Festa looks like a very serviceable 4th or 5th starter, trending up. Thielbar is back in form. Jax is dominating.
  6. I see some serious talent, but...Whoa, look at Andrew Morris! That young man is built like an Olympian, did you notice? And did you see his self-confident strut after that last heater for a K to end the game? Dooods, Andrew Morris has the look of a future stud horse starting pitcher. He looks like he could handle major leaguer hitters right now. I wonder if Twins could stick him in the bullpen for the playoffs...
  7. Dang it, I changed 7k's to 9k's from my original prediction. Off by one run, too...
  8. Fearless prediction: Ober goes seven innings, nine K's, two earned runs. Twins win 7-2. The man is cruising.
  9. Ober is becoming what I hoped he'd be - an innings eating horse with a low ERA. In other words, an excellent MLB starting pitcher. He has found his place, ironed out his rough edges, figured out an optimal workout routine. Best of all, he shows calm confidence on the mound. He completely trusts his stuff, and it's working. He's spotting his heater really well, and he has refined his changeup, getting tons of whiffs. Hitters will of course try to lay off his change, but it's a hard assignment, as his arm action is the same as his fastball.
  10. Is Alcala finally finding the zone? He's throwing just enough strikes to be effective. Topping out at 100...
  11. Dang it, I missed Festa's start. How'd he look?
  12. Man, that pitch hit Miranda's head very, very hard. Yo MLB, keep making those helmets bigger. I don't care if they look silly at first, we'll get used to it.
  13. Miranda may be a better hitter, but on balance Santana is a better 1st baseman. Better glove for sure, knows exactly what to do on every play, so he's half a step ahead of Miranda defensively. At the plate, Santana may not bring quite the power Miranda does, but Santana is a switch hitter, and he has one ability Miranda can't match: Availability. Having a steady, capable 1st baseman helps the whole infield.
  14. Lambaste: criticize (someone or something) harshly. "they lambasted the report as a gross distortion of the truth" "Buxton lambasted that ball..." - Detroit announcer
  15. Lee needs a chin strap on his helmet. Seems like it flies off every time he swings hard.
  16. Yo Wallner, what's this measely 99.3 mph? Stop bunting!
  17. The book on Lee appears to be something like, work him low, then outside, then finish him off with high heat. Probably he's never faced pitchers that could execute that strategy. Time to adjust...
  18. It is so cool to see Sim making it. They knew he was talented, and then his heater went away, and then he got it back, got to the Show... and now, he's looking like a very good major league pitcher!
  19. Man, Sim's command was right on in that inning. He's really moving the ball around, and when he needed a high heater, he nailed the top of the zone. I can see why hitters are frustrated. They have no idea where the next pitch is going, yet Sim can throw a tough strike when he needs to.
  20. Can't criticize Wallner for a 114 mph scalding line drive out. Did that screamer get ten feet off the ground?
  21. How did the Twins luck into Carlos Santana? The guy looks like he's at the height of his career, not the tail end. Also, Sim is doing some good pitching, moving the ball around, not giving them a pattern. He is more deceptive than I realized.
  22. Red Sox value hitters with plate discipline. Eddie Julien today is a good hitter and a rapidly improving second baseman. When Royce gets back, Twins can slide Lee to 2B, Royce back to 3B.
  23. Rollercoaster game. I am entertained.
