  1. Wow, what a great play by both Grossman and Rosario. I think Rosie has found his swing. Some little adjustment he needed to start mashing the ball like he's used to.
  2. Smalley was right on - Sano froze up on an in-between hop. Happens in tennis just like that. Odd bounce, lots of time, you dump it into the net for no apparent reason.
  3. Sano will commit his share of errors, but I think he's going to be better than merely acceptable at 3rd.
  4. With Milone out there, I assume they have a plan B if he starts getting shelled.
  5. I just noticed something extraordinary about Kennys Vargas. Standing in the batter's box, HE DOESN'T LOOK FAT. If he does nothing else this season, I congratulate Kennys for losing...what, 30 pounds? Same goes for Sano, too. He looked positively trim in the box. Big young baseball players should look like NFL linebackers, not NFL offensive linemen. A big gut doesn't belong on a guy in his 20's.
  6. What seems odd to me is the sheer number of crappy bunt attempts I've been seeing over the past week or so. Seriously, these guys look like somebody just told them how to bunt, and they're still figuring out the basics, like meet the ball out front, impale the ball on a nail, etc. Not to mention some of the "finer" points that Smalley has mentioned, like don't try to bunt a pitch that you wouldn't ever swing at. Of course, it doesn't matter. Go ahead, whiff on bunts, make your mistakes. Eventually one supposes, the mistakes will be corrected. These are young players still learning to perform at the highest level. We have seen marked improvements in these guys. Better plate discipline, shorter swings. Pitchers are starting to look like major leaguers, if not stars. They aren't going to the playoffs, but it looks like they're going to get better. It's actually kind of fun to watch.
  7. Looked about 95mph to me. I remember thinking that it looked faster than the pitcher's fastball, which was clocking around 90 to 93. I'm glad they've put Sano back at his natural position. He looked terrible in RF, but he's a pretty good 3B.
  8. I'll give him the ultimate Tom Kelly compliment: I think Kepler has a chance to be a pretty good little ball player.
  9. I want a big vanilla ice cream cone with accolades sprinkled on top!
  10. Vargas is looking a lot more mature at the plate. Much shorter swing, and willing to take a walk. Hamels - gone.
  11. I just realized what looks odd about the way Kepler runs. He runs toe-to-heel, like a ballet dancer. Most of us lugs run heel-to-toe, like an overweight jogger.
  12. Sano's swing was...refreshing.
  13. Well, now that we know Buxton will be okay, we can still trade high on him before the All-Star break. Maybe get a pretty good mid-rotation starter! Har.
  14. Buxton: Bruise on the knee. Fantastic news. Ice packs for everybody. Betcha he's back within a week.
  15. If Buxton tore a bit of cartilage in the knee, it might have locked up on him after walking around a bit. That or he got a charlie horse that swelled up after a minute... The good news: It's not a concussion, and it's not a broken leg.
  16. Disagree. Park's reduced distance and exit velocity should have been dead giveaways that he was nursing some kind of injury. Meanwhile, Joe Mauer's reduced distance and exit velocity are due to...?
  17. Twins still don't have a closer, but today it didn't matter. Good win, all eleven hours of it.
  18. Great day for Eduardo Nunez. What a year he's having.
  19. Suzuki had time to JOG to second base between the hit and the throw back to third from C.
  20. I'm beginning to think Max Kepler could be pretty good.
  21. If jinxes exist, I can't imagine a much better one than what Roy Smalley just said.
  22. Good on Tyler Duffey. Fought like heck to find his form; just managed to keep Texas from scoring.
  23. I kept saying, "Change up, change up..." Finally he threw one. Ha!
  24. How many called third strikes on final outs today? So far I count seventeen...
