    Darnit I watched the press conference and it worked. Torii was funny, charming, and entertaining. Everything they wanted to happen. I really hope it works. I'm trying to be Mr Optimistic

    Just read that there's a full no trade clause in the deal. So flipping him for prospects in July is out. I was resigned to being ok with it until I read that. But in the end it's a one year deal.....

    It appears that Torii Hunter will be signing elsewhere, likely the Rangers. I'm assuming nobody reading this post will be losing any sleep over this news. If the Twins are adamant on signing a veteran outfielder to provide leadership and mentoring to the young players, I wonder if that leadership must be verbal, or can it be the "lead by example, hard work and dedication to the craft" kind of leadership? Can it be a player who is going to provide adequate defense, hit for average, and be a positive role model for these developing players? If so, how about Ichiro? I realize that this suggestion is probably crazy, but personally I'd rather have Ichiro than Torii. Thoughts?

    Doesnt Hamels have the Twins on his no trade clause list anyway? Or at the very list is a 10-5 player and could (probably would) veto a deal?

    If anyone is missing baseball, especially successful Twins baseball, the MLB network is running old world series films Friday. The Twins '87 win is on at midnight. This is the team that drew a 10 year old from Chicago to be a Twins fan. Then the '91 win is on at 4am. I've got my DVR set!

    Could you imagine the Twins @ Brewers series if Paul Molitor and Robin Yount are both on the visitors bench in Twins uniforms? I'd have to drive up from Chicago to see that series!

    This really puts the whole trade into perspective. There was no way the Twins were going to be able to resign Santana, and oft when this is the case, teams know this and put together a deal that reflects that knowledge. Sure it can be argued that keeping Gomez would have been great, but it took him a few years in Milwaukee to fully develop and his emotional outbursts hurt the team often. I think the bigger mistake was dumping JJ Hardy......

    Compaing the article here with the Brett Anderson piece, it seems more prudent for the Twins to sign Anderson. Sounds like the price tag won't be as high. I'm just crossing my fingers that the right pitching coach is hired and he can get Nolasco right.

    I like the Masterson possibility. With any luck, he could be Phil Hughes 2.0 I've been thinking about Plouffe in the OF once Sano is ready.

    I guess I'm overly sensitive, but I'm still kind of bothered by Nolasco telling a Twitter follower that he wishes he was still a Dodger. I know he'd say it was "taken out of context" but it didn't sit well with me. So I'd take Jimenez to get rid of Nolasco. But basically I agree with those who would rather have neither!

    I'd much rather have Viola, who has worked in the Mets system, than Blyleven or Morris, simply because analyzing pitchers from a brodcast booth is not the same as working with them on the field on a day to day basis. Sure Bert and/or Jack has probably been on the field talking with pitchers and maybe lent their 2 cents worth during Spring Training, but I'd prefer someone who has worked as a pitching coach...

    Morgan is a headcase. With so many young players projecting to be on the Twins roster, I'd stay away from exposing someone like him to that clubhouse. Rasmus has a ton of potential, but haven't we been hearing that for years now? I like Aoki, and he would be a fine addition to the Twins, but I would guess at his age he seeks a team with a more immediate chance to compete. To answer the question at hand, I guess I'd say roll with the OF on the roster and concentrate on the rotation

    Excellent piece, Nick. I wold say both articles cited were attempting to do exactly what it accomplished: Us talking about their writing. Living in Chicago, I've had to listen to everyone question Jay Cutler and the old NFC title game where he didn't play the second half due to a knee strain. His manhood was questioned by everyone from athletes to talk show hosts, to little kids in my school. Had he gone out there and stunk up the joint, they'd have been all over his ass for playing hurt and not thinking of the team. It's a no win situation when it comes to injuries.....

    The only thing I disliked about the old gray pinstriped road uniform was that the pinstripes didnt go through the nameplate. I always thought that looked sloppy and low budget.....

    I realize it's hokey, but I like the logo on the backdrop behind Molitor/Ryan/etc that reads "Twins Tradition....Passion, Hustle, Heart, Fun." I guess I like that it avoids referring to Twins fandom as "Twins Nation" or the traditions of the franchise as "The Twins Way." I think those two terms (nation/way) are so overused and cliched......
