  1. I'd bet on a pitcher, probably Thielbar given how little he's been used lately.
  2. Good news for Clete Thomas, I guess.
  3. Bert is one of the coolest former players I've met! He once sent me a hand-written birthday card for submitting something to a telecast back in 1997 or thereabouts. When I met him at TwinsFest he was so chatty I was actually the one to end the conversation. However, with my MLB.TV subscription, I find myself flipping the audio over to the radio more and more often lately.
  4. Fair points, but I prefer the AL and the DH. It's possible that this is due to following the Twins all these years and just growing accustomed to the style of play. I am a fan of offense first and foremost. Tonight's 8-6 game is more interesting to me than a 2-1 game full of strategy. That said, I also am a huge fan of interleague play and seeing the Twins visit NL cities and play by NL rules on occasion. I hope baseball never changes the unique rules between the leagues. I think that's one of the things that makes baseball so great--every team can play on a different sized field with its own dimensions and half the teams play by a different set of rules.
  5. I had originally planned on marathoning through the entire season the second it came out, but I was forced to San Francisco on a work trip and was stuck at AT&T Park on Sunday seeing a Giants game instead of Arrested. Now that I'm home, I am four episodes in and agree that it is beginning to pick up a little. That George Sr. episode was really weird. But after seeing the second Michael episode I'm getting much more intrigued.
  6. I distinctly remember Cuddyer hitting a HR to right field for the Twins at home. It seemed like nothing more than a routine pop fly off the bat but somehow it just kept carrying and carrying over the wall.
  7. Those are some really ugly numbers overall. Wasn't Anibal Sanchez mentioned a time or two this offseason?
  8. Love it! If they could condense it down to about half the time, it would be perfect.
  9. Wow, lots of early success for that bunch, aside from Casilla and Revere.
  10. Great question! My top 3 are Brendan Harris, Tony Batista, and Rondell White. I also always liked the veteran backup catchers, from Greg Myers and Henry Blanco to Mike Redmond and Tom Prince, but not the young backup catchers like Butera. Lastly, Luis Rodriguez and Randy Ruiz.
  11. This definitely appeals to a certain group of fans and I guarantee those 60 tickets will be in high demand. There are grown men who push over kids to get batting practice home run balls--now's their chance. I say good move by the Twins letting them in early for a price.
  12. My guess would be DeVries will wind up on the DL making it an easy transition for Diamond. Roenicke or Robertson probably go down when Swarzak is ready. Too bad they have to make any such move though, with the nice start collectively by the pitchers. Must be nice to be a Rule V guy--Pressly knows he's in very little danger of being moved.
  13. Wasn't that also the year Tony Fiore picked up like 12 wins in relief?
  14. I knew that was the case. I wonder if that was the longest active streak in baseball. I figure most teams, even horrible ones, have started a season 1-1 the past couple years.
  15. LaVelle E. Neal says Alex Burnett has been optioned to AAA Rochester. Burnett's inclusion on the roster the past few years has been baffling to me especially when it seemed there were always better options. It almost seemed the job was just being handed to him. Glad to see the Twins looked at some ugly spring outings and made the right call.
  16. Actually they optioned Romero to Class A, not AAA.
  17. Interesting! I totally agree with Terry Ryan's thinking. I also found this Mastroianni comment refreshing:
  18. Kvasnicka's uncle is my company's HR guy, and he gave me the family-insider scouting report! "Yep, a lot of excitement with the family here, hopefully will be playing at Fort Myers (Upper Class A) under new coach Doug Mientkiewicz, and I believe Mike’s winter workout friend, Kyle Knudson (former Gopher catcher), is on the roster also. Astros couldn’t figure out where his best position is (3B?, C?, RF? Other?) was assuming he would only be playing right field going forward (has a gun for an arm), but they may try him again at catcher. Plus he’s a switch-hitter, so no doubt he provides some versatility. Twins drafted him out of high school in 2007, have continued to keep tabs on him in the minors, so they like him for all of his abilities in the field and as a switch-hitter with power potential. Could be that a change of scenery and different management style will be a positive change for him; Twins tend to take guys that are class acts, and they got a good one here in Michael."
  19. Each team should average 16-17 players on this list. Doesn't seem the Twins will get half that. But I guess we're making up for it by dominating the prospect lists.
  20. My fantasy league has 3 spots remaining (a few dropouts from last season) and we are drafting Thursday evening at 8pm CT. Most everyone in the league is a Twins fan and from MN (except me in TX). Send me your e-mail and I'll send you an invite! Yahoo Rotisserie style 12 teams $10 buy-in (LeagueSafe) $70/$30/$20 payout Sorry if this doesn't fall within the guidelines of forum postings.
  21. Josh Willingham is currently hitting .727 in spring training. I wonder what the highest batting average a player has ever had at any point during a season under 1.000? Anyone can go 1-for-1 and carry a 1.000 average, but has any player ever started a season 9-for-10 and had a .900 average? Does anyone have any ideas for finding such information out?
  22. I would bet Lohse and Gardenhire still aren't bitter after that incident years ago. The entire roster has turned over since Lohse was last here. That said I still think the odds are astronomical.
  23. Great move by the Indians! Concession prices really are a big deterrent, and probably even moreso if you're thinking of taking the whole family. I don't think the idea of concession prices has ever personally kept me from attending a game, but it is sending a good message. I find those numbers surprising that the Twins beer prices were that expensive... I went to a game at Rogers Centre and paid $10 for a Labatt once, and $10 at Yankee Stadium for a Budweiser. You can get a big Surly for under $10 at Target Field.
  24. Sano. My theory is people like power. A legit contender for HR champion would get the fans in the stands in a hypothetical upstart team that would surely be horrible for a couple seasons.
  25. I think most people tend to adamantly state that spring training means absolutely nothing... standings, stats, etc. They cannot be relied upon for any true measure of a team's regular season performance. While I think that a month's worth of stats, even against inferior competition, can't be completely ignored, I do think the standings can. My guess is that if any team's regular season and spring training win % were close to the same, it was mere coincidence.
