  1. Easily! And if you take your gnome to the Cayman Islands you can avoid the capital gains taxes also.
  2. Twins Ticket>>>>>>$20 Brat>>>>>>>>>>>>$8 Beer>>>>>>>>>>>>$6 Gardy Gnome>>>>>$Pricless
  3. Or you could just say his contract would not be renewed due to managerial change. That said, I kmow social media is supposed to be pretty up to date, but I read this Tuesday in either the Trib, or PP.
  4. Not to beat an exited horse to death, but it was one of my pet peeves about Gardy, he always started the year exclaiming how the Twins were going to run a lot, be aggressive on the paths, etc. but he really was not an aggressive manager. A question? Do all/most managers just use a "run if you want sign"? It seems to me that is leaving your job security in the hands of a 24 year old. Does anyone know the percentages of successful sacrifice attempts (bunt) vs successful steal percentage. I know there are a lot of factors besides just that number involved. I just thought major league managers never ran enough. That steal of 3rd in KC the other night saved their year. Talk about cojones.
  5. You are correct, these guys are not James Shields. But both were having career years, and the Twins obviously weren't. It would have been a good time to cash in!
  6. First of all he would be better than any of them, great arm, and in all likelihood faster than many think. I doubt Willingham, Arcia, et al were every considered the number one high school quarterback and baseball player of their class. So I was looking at Mauer the athlete. But, most of all the Twins have an excess of power hitters that could end up at 1B. This would make room for a couple of them. And lastly for a new guy at first he is probably already above average. The optimal situation is that he catch, and since that's not going to happen, make the best of it.
  7. I am not sure if coddled is the right word, but whatever the word, it seemed like he was given deferential treatment. Veterans do get some of that, but a manager always has to be careful not to overdo it. Nothing costs a manager credibility faster than that. Is Joe stubborn? Hitting everything including inside pitches down the LF line into a shift leaves one with two assumptions. He knows he cannot pull the ball in the air, or he is stubborn! Well there is a third, but I truly doubt Joe Mauer is stupid. Joe did suffer from losing the catchers preferential strike zone when hitting. Umpires are loathe to ring up a catcher, especially one of his stature, with a borderline third strike. Then they have to listen to him ask for that pitch to be called a strike for his pitcher the rest of the game. As for another position, third or left are options. Before this season third was my choice, but if Sano is close that's a waste of time. As for left, ask yourself this question. If Chris Parmalee, Josh Willingham and Oswaldo can play the outfield, what would make anyone think Joe cannot. Want to? Agree to? But he could play it.
  8. After the game he will he quoted as saying that he learned to do that when in MN
  9. Unless you are the Twins! See Willingham and Suzuki.
  10. A couple other issues. The ability of some hitters to run the AB up to ten or more pitches with endless foul balls. And the 3 minute commercial break between innings. I am not sure when that amount of time became standard, but there are I think 17 of them. Drop a minute on each, is 17 minutes. (I majored in remedial math)! I know advertising drives the show, but numerically at least that is a partial solution.
  11. It might be worth it just to see the look on Arcias face when he gets back to the dugout after chasing a double around in the corner like its a cottontail! OSWALDO! GET OVER HERE! BTW, what's wrong with being a Fox North Sports Girl?
  12. "I digress, but my point is that trotting Nathan out in the playoffs all those years, trotting Capps out over and over" And that might be why Gardy needs a veteran "stable team" to manage in the future. He tends to manage by rote. In fact he has at mumerous times mentioned that his players, especially his bull pen, knows there roll. I also think this "manage by rote" is the basis of his in game decisions, like bunting and a pretty inflexible pitch count. But when you are dealing with the upcoming Twins roster, flexibility will be necessary. Gardy might be, probably is, a good manager. But flexibility is really not one of his attributes.
  13. FSN has a show on right now dealing with Gardy!
  14. Not at all.... Of the 500 plus, 3/4 will call for joe makers release or trade. You are context, they tend to go far beyond snark
  15. I stand corrected. And humbly beg forgiveness! :)
  16. This move also makes the reams of digital ink we used assessing potential rosters for next years Twins nothing but mere vapor on the inter web. Once a new manager is named, we have to start all over. Also, as at least one other poster mentioned, this is terrible news for 3rd string catchers. I would imagine several have their agents on the phone as we type!
  17. 50? The trib story is at 576 and counting! Unreal. And I don't have to read them to know that they are primarily "snarky"
  18. I listened to some of the press conference. He was forthright, relaxed, humorous and affable. He actually sounded relieved! He will and somewhere when he wants to. It could turn out a blessing in disguise for him also. Sometimes one needs to step back and regroup.
  19. I am not sure the gloating is that excessive. I desperately wanted him gone... But I also said to my wife (she cares as much about my input as the Twins do), that Gardy needs a veteran team to manage. He is not the guy for the upcoming Twins. So part A is done. Now comes the kicker. Getting the right replacement. It's going to be the biggest decision TR makes for the rest of his career. He gets it right, the new guy will outlast him. If not................. I hope the new guy is creative, flexible, and stresses fundamentals, and I don't mean just at a press conference either. Get back to the basics. That has been sorely missing lately.
  20. I was going to hit "I like this". Until I got to point #4 !
  21. John smolz's take in the Twins pitching philosophy was interesting, and not complimentary.
  22. Sadly he will be back, unless Pohlad fires him. Ryan will not. And if he comes back, we will never know how good the upcoming bunch of players could have been. When you try and make all your players play the same way, regardless of individual talents, you stifle their athletic ability. They will win, sooner than later, but it won't be because of Gardy.
  23. You know more than I did, the very first NHL game I went to (North Stars) my friend and I sat there after the second period. We had no idea whether the game was over or not, so we just waited to see what the other people did, and acted cool!
  24. I feel like a Oscar winner, late in the program. All the best jokes have been used, all the people have been thanked, all the platitudes delivered. So instead of thanking my mom and dad, and my agent, and producer, and my 3rd grade English teacher, I will simply say that I enjoyed the time, the witty repartee, the sarcasm. It takes a certain kind of individual to watch the Twins the last 4 years, listen to Dick and Bert sell optimism (and tickets) and retain your sense of humor. Luckily most of those have landed on game thread. Even more fortuitous is that I discovered it! So, until next year, I bid a fond au deu!
