  1. A question and point over which great minds may ruminate! Since it seems that the majority of the roster will return, and that sadly includes the starting pitching, (the bullpen can easily be tweaked), and this blog seems resigned to the return of the dugout crew, where will any improvement come from? I don't see improvement offensively from Dozier, Plouffie, Escobar, Suzuki, and Shaefer. In fact all will likely regress. History would say Mauer will have a better year. Hicks is truly a wild card. Santanna, Vargas and Arcia will improve offensively based on their recognition of the strike zone. As a whole this is not a good defensive bunch. So will we repeat the -90 mantra yet again? There is an old saying about doing the same thing over and expecting a different result........ Buxton and Sano? What are the odds they join the team while the season can be salvaged? Something has to change, the Twins need a manager who is flexible, innovative, and will emphasize fundementals. Until the Twins way includes the aforementioned, the term is but a tortuous reminder of what should be. To maintain the status quo, will be an insult to the intelligence of the same fans previous posters have assured us are indeed intelligent.
  2. If you want lessons, let me know,,, I can snark with the best......
  3. But therein lies the problem, if the twins are going to be any good at all, it is with a relatively young lineup. He never has seemed comfortable with young players. He likes 30 ish year old middle of the road vets. I am not sure he would even understand or be able to handle a big stud with an attitude. So if he isn't the guy to brings long go younger players, then that combined with the 4 90's, and the completely miserable post season record are enough reasons to move on. Lastly, ideas like 3 catchers, bring Bartlett north, and virtually refusing to audition young players for next year should be enough to tip the scale. When you have the record after the all star game that the Twins have, fielding a "competitive" team against contenders might just include playing someone other than the ones who got you to where you are in the first place.
  4. U just used the terms "Gardy" and "creativity" in the same paragraph? Of the current twins, Santanna is the only true lead off option. Which is the problem with him as a super utility guy. Nothing in Gardy's history makes anyone think he will be able to keep Santanna in the lineup in that role.
  5. I would be depressed if he is here next year. This team needs a change in culture. A couple reasons: he is the type of coach who expects his players to fit his style of play. A good coach goes with what he has, gets the basics down, and accentuates his players talents by putting in positions to succeed, and attempts to,hide their weaknesses . Yet oddly he lets the players decide things like whe to bunt or steal? (See Santanna/Shaefer), then rips them in public. More often he seems to do things almost contrarily, just to show he can do them. Mid season I was sure the drive for -90 would be the final nail. But nope, the boys are bustin their tails, love to play for him, and none of the roster is his fault. There seems only two hopes here, one is TR resigns, which is unlikely as he know it costs Gardy his job. The only real chance is Jim Pohlad, who looking at those empty seats takes the time and effort to realize that he owns a team that is fast becoming passé. People go to games to see wins, if the win does not happen, effort will suffice for awhile. This club currently has neither.
