  1. OR, is Chattanooga to hard tho spell? (Thanks auto correct)
  2. You could, if Hunter had been signed by the Rockies!
  3. Be nice, that was not Minnesota Nice!
  4. 4/29..... Afternoon game against the Tigers. A chance to show Detroit what a huge mistake they made!
  5. I love it. But there is no need for a prize. Just the acknowledgement and accolades from TD readers will be enough for me. I did think it was kind of funny that Brock thought Kirby etc might offer cash! . A Pa Pa Johns Pizza would have been more appropriate. It's a good thing Gardy is in Florida taking the year off otherwise there would have been an awful lot of pizzas handed out due to the massive tie that would exist when everyone took the same day. Opening day, 2015!
  6. If I could choreograph the season, it would go pretty much like you have predicted. Not to be a wet blanket, but our main choreographer is TR. He is not noted for being agressively innovative. If he had been in charge of Riverdance, they would have not been allowed to wear those noisy metal tips on their shoes!
  7. If Nolasco starts hot, does anyone really think the Twins will trade him? That is not the "twins way".
  8. As bad as the pitching was last year, the overall D was worse, and will be no better to start the year. You compound Hunter by moving an unsure Arcia move to LF. The jury is out on Santana at SS, but it will by default improve the CF glove work. I think there was a rating on here the other day of Twins defenders by position, and it was not a pretty sight. So far the only improvement will be probably in CF. There is an old saying, "throw it and duck"! It might have to be changed to "throw it and don't trun around and watch"!
  9. I agree on the bullpen. I am positive Pelfry will go to the pen. I am not sure how much upgrade OF defense can get. That went out the door with the latest reunion. From just a defensive standpoint Shafer and Hicks can be more than adequate, not sure you will be able to improve the defense there. And the corners are locked. That was the folly in signing Hunter to appease the casual fan. If I was Nunez or Hermann I would keep a travel bag packed, and not sign any long term leases!
  10. If we did not sign Hunter v1, Santana v1, or a few of the other upper echelon FA, why would we extend a Dozier level player this early. While the revenue from Target has increased the budget, everything is relative and the outlays have also increased. I like Dozier's personality, his effort, and his hair. But he is replaceable, probably in house in the near future. One other reason for not extending him, is it removes any flexibility on roster moves at that position. While there is not a league rule against trading players with fresh contracts, this FO seems to think there is.
  11. I think this thread/topic is maybe more important than most consider. Most of us are looking at the 2014 version of Suzuki. It's a little like my 2001 Chevy S10, it runs good some weeks but it's better days are behind it. I think the Suzuki we see in 2015 will be more in line with the 2nd half of 2014 Suzuki, than the All Star half. I would like to see a fair completion over the beginning of the season between Pinto and Suzuki. I don't think Pinto is currently defensively equal to Suzuki, but I would give it a chance, looking to the future, which is where the Twins should always be looking right now!
  12. This of course begs the pondering: What exactly are you asking the "other" Chief about? Merry Christmas to all
  13. I doubt they will let Meyer see a major league stadium until the deadline passes. And frankly I think it will take a total meltdown (or injuries) by several starters for anyone to see him before September. Sadly I fear it will be Milone who comes north, unless he is not heathy.
  14. While I know you can't have a below Mendoza line player on your roster, I am not sure Nunez was an upgrade over Pedro. Florimon could at least pick it. He had one distinct positive. Nunez doesn't seem to do any one thing well. And from the outside looking in, he doesn't seem to have a real feel for the game. And of anyone thinks Arcia is a liability with a glove, watching Nunez out there for a week would make Oswaldo look like Tori Hunter! Sadly I fear that Torii might end up looking like Oswaldo.
  15. Ryan stil seems to me to be structuring the roster like the Twins won 84 games last year and need a tweak here and there. And I could live with some of this off season maneuvering if he had shown any history of experimenting with veteran additions and then moved them if it did not work out, or even better if they over achieve and he sells high. . That is not the way he works. These guys are probably here for the year, maybe more. The hot stove season is supposed to be of hope, instead I am beginning to dread what each mornings Twins news would bring.
  16. Let’s just hope Ryan doesn't fail to trade Hughes or Santana when they're most valuable. And therein lies the problem! TR has very little if any history of selling high. It seems his theory is to try and win the most amount of games possible. On its face value, that looks like a great idea. But in reality if you are not in the picture for a playoff spot, its little more than a number. It will be interesting to see what happens this year with the pitching. He has kind of painted himself in a corner. If the three high buck pitchers don't perform, he can't trade them. And unless something has drastically changed he won't eat salary. Many might not agree with me, but I see TR structuring a roster as if he has an almost contender, instead of what he really has! A team to be completely rebuilt in 2015!
  17. .............. On second thought. .??
  18. No, if that's Arcia he has not only shrunk, he also became a switch hitter! Or maybe he's just playing against the "GIANTS"
  19. One poster mentioned trading Nolasco in the event of a repeat of last year, and the Twins eating some salary! Historically they have not done this. My concern is the Twins still have no "ace"! but they do have a minimum of 60% of their starts allocated to 3 pitchers with no flexibility to move those starts. Short of an injury, they don't drop FA pitchers from the rotation. I wish they had went with a plan using our prospects to move forward. Instead I still fear we are stuck in no mans land, not good enough to win with the addition of a few pieces of second tier talent, but too cluttered up with second tier talent to see if we could build a winner in house? I once put lipstick on a pig! It was a waste of good lipstick!
  20. And that's the approach the front office should take. And affirm! Tell us it's all about getting experience, and start bringing in some of the young talent. There are more fans who want to see the future, and will live with the losses it involves, than there are people who will buy tickets to see Torii after June 1st! And frankly I think the record would be better also
  21. My point was not to define Terry Ryan's personality. I don't have an issue with him, I have a question about his philosophy. Signing a Hunter like player for this outfield, and dabbling in #4 type starters seems less a plan, than a form of fan appeasement. If we do not have several pitchers in the minors that are not capable of being 4's or 5's, and no one better than a soon to be 40 yr old in the OF, then we will be in the same place for a long time. There is not a lack of major league players on this team, most are. The problem is the level of their ability. Almost all are of the same ability, there is no one to carry the load! Tinkering and tweaking the roster will not do.
  22. So why do the Twins operate this way? We don't want to pay top dollar, lose a draft pick, trade a top prospect, trade a over valued FA (Suzuki), or aggressively bring in young talent! The only option left is to have a GM who is positive he is the smartest guy in the room.
  23. I am perplexed that someone who uses a number in his name would pay such little attention to the proper usage of to, too, two! (Kind of sounds like a toy train). What if he was erroneously called LEN ll, more commonly referred to as Jr.!
  24. I agree on Kaat, I think some of his luster comes from his ability as an announcer. But there were few players capable of hitting the pitched baseball with the frequency, and authority of Oliva. The real difference in him being in the Hall is more likely where he played than how he played.
