  1. There is still one thing, or should I say one answer missing in this off season puzzle. Is our vaunted minor league system not really that vaunted? Are the Twins as an orginasation philosophically opposed to taking an "unforced" chance on young talent? Or is TR completely misconstructing the roster? Every move made is of the bland vannilla variety!
  2. You have actually touched on the core issue with almost the entire Twins 25 man roster. A lot of soft, easy to manage, middling talent. Almost all are of major league caliber! But it is not possible to win with them all in the same clubhouse! That's not a knock on the players, it's a commentary on the FO philosophy!
  3. So Terry Ryan: 1. Ignores metrics? 2. Takes them into consideration, but abides by his eyes? 3. Got Hunter soley for fan appeasement? 4. Wants to show everyone he is the smartest guy in the room? 5. Does not believe catching balls in the air impacts ERA's? 6. Realizes what we do not, that their is no one in the Twins minor league system who can play LF? Some of the above is facetious, sadly I am not sure which?
  4. I agree, if we are just going to sign a middling of the road pitcher, we already have a plethora of them. It would be like using the word redundant twice in the same sentence! Not mentioned was what caliber or level of pitcher would come here at this time? The outfield is going to be weak in the corners, and totally unknown in CF. The SS is untested, or back in CF, where he did not remind me of Torii Hunter! And the catcher is lowly rated both defensively and in pitch framing metrics. This is not going to be an ERA saving defense. Throw in a new coaching staff, and as a FA pitcher, there have to be better destinations.
  5. I doubt Hunter was signed to DH! And ponder this? If our young and supposedly talented minor league system has no one who can outplay a 40 year old who is ranked as the worst defensive RF in baseball, either the future is dim, or our FO is in a shambles. I really hoped we were going to move forward. This actually borders on embarrassing!
  6. Mentoring, who? One of those he should be mentoring will now be in the minors (Rosario), because Torii has his spot. Hitting? No one has mentioned that he has spent several years hitting in front of Miggy. If that does not increase your diet of middle in fastballs nothing will. I wonder if he has ever cured his love of low outside sliders with men on base? Defense? While one can argue metrics to an extent, they do point in a direction. Arcia was the third worst RF last year. My eyes would agree. Hunter was the worst. This move will not make it any easier to sign a FA pitcher. Who want to pitch with that outfield behind them? Why don't we just move Kirby's statue into CF, that would complete the scenario! Sorry about the negativity, but I never ever thought this would really happen. Btw, in closing, his taking the money means winning means nothing to him, only the cash!
  7. I seem to remember one year when Tim McCarver did a playoff series instead of Kaat? I was really disappointed. Kaat shared more insight and info, and used only half the words McCarver did. I still consider him the best baseball broadcaster I have ever heard! (Sorry Dick).
  8. Is it possible that this is an indication that Josmil is history? They just overpaid Suzuki for the next two years. He is going to catch until then. To sit him behind someone, especially Josmil after last year, would be an admission of failure. And I doubt that at this stage in his career Suzuki will listen to pitch framing instruction, or learn Spanish! While I agree with the need for Hispanic coaches, I am not sure of the need on this team for a catching coach, at this time.
  9. To me it's more about general philosophy. Will Allen emphasize the need for higher strike out rates? Will he accept that those types of pitchers walk more, but can get out of a jam, self inflicted or otherwise. Will Molitor address the fact that some of the pitching problems were a combination of two diametric opposite policies. Pitch to contact with an outfield filled with out of position infielders, large sluggers, and on too many occasions overvalued utility men? While the offense has not been bad, will he try and eliminate taking fastballs down the middle, while trying to "work the count"? I know the hitting coach is the hitting coach. But to some extent, he must reflect the managers philosophy, or he would not be there long. Will lackadaisical play cost you a day on the bench until you get it? I am not talking errors here, I am talking throwing to the wrong base, missing cutoff men, or running into idiotic outs. Answers to those questions, many which seemed to lack import to the previous regime will go a long way in determining the makeup of next years roster, and by extension next years record.
  10. How do u say "pitch to contact" in Korean
  11. Since this is starting to make my head hurt, this is my last comment! Has anyone wondered if Torii will hit as well if he is not hitting in front of Cabrera?
  12. You would put a below average fielder in left, and take important AB's from a young player?? For what?? If management on this team looks anywhere but to the future, someone should explain why. A move like this would give fans a legitimate reason to question both the front office and the new field regime.
  13. I can only think of three words! WHY. WHY... WHY
  14. If he is a fielder who can hit vs a hitter who "has to play somewhere" then fine. This team needs at least two OF's with some range.
  15. I look for a surprising year from May. One thing that seems to be overlooked is his change up. I am sure someone here can find the numbers, but the times I saw him pitch, it seemed very, very effective.
  16. No one has mentioned the commercial breaks. I read somewhere that their length has been increased over the years? Even 30 seconds per is 8.5 minutes.
  17. I would not trade Eddy, nor would he be my starting SS out of spring training. Good teams have players like EE on the bench, versatile and able to play extended innings if needed. This decision, like many others should be made with 2016 in mind. I would like to see aggressive intelligent decisions based on the future. I don't want the Twins to try and "improve" to 80-82 and call the season success by settling for a replacement level player who will win a game or two this year, but will impede the progress of someone with a better future. Yes, I know that sooner or later the future has to get here, but last years injuries, suspensions, and questionable roster decisions sadly moved the future back a year. There is truth to the rumor that reality bites!!
  18. Before you decide roster moves, an agreement between management and the bench needs to be in place. Win games early in the year? Or build a foundation? That question resolved, it seems someone in the organization thinks DS can play shortstop better than EE, if not now eventually. They are certainly not thinking of putting him at SS because some arm chair GM's think they should. My guess is that they think they know what they have in EE at short, and what you saw is what you will get. They might also surmise that DS could be much better, and continue to fill the lead off spot. They can always switch back to EE, but if they think DS can play short, the time to find out is now. Due to injuries, suspensions, and managerial decisions this issue did not get resolved in as timely a manner as it could have been. How it is now handled will have a snowball effect, ie Hicks, Shafer, and Rosario. If one knew the answer to the question posed at the beginning of this comment, it would go a long way towards speculating on the future roster/lineup.
  19. They will look like the Smurfs
  20. Am I the only one, or does the word "collusion" rear its vague head?
  21. Sarah Brightman ain't no slouch at it either!
  22. While Gardy has been magniminious, and toed the company line, there seems little doubt that he knew and did not like that Molitor was in this years dugout. It was reported that last year he was able to keep Molitor out of the clubhouse but this year had to acquiesce. While they both work for the same employer, I doubt there is a lot in common between the two. I personally liked Doug M., but who knows? That could have been like getting a shiny new toy, and finding it wasn't what you expected. I knew nothing about Luvollo, including how to spell his name. Hopefully among Molitors talents is the ability to make some of the players on this roster a little uncomfortable. Players are supposed to respect their manager, but they don't have to like him. As for TR's world wide search, I doubt it was all dog and pony show. You might know you have a good in house candidate, but it does not hurt to kick a few tires. While it caused angst of amongst the more rabid and vociferous Twins fans, little was lost, or gained. Only time, and a couple good pitchers will determine whether TR made the right choice.
  23. Maybe TR is trying to get invited to Reusses Turkey of the Year banquet, possibly a seat at the head table. I am not sure he can take home the turkey bacon though? There seem to be an extraordinary number of quality candidates this year!
  24. You're right! Most popes don't last as long as the typical Twins manager!
  25. Out of the 2200, how many of them would have been intelligent? (Besides ours of course)
