  1. Nice post. I was thinking in the first inning that Meyer was not trying to throw inside and I assumed (I could be wrong) that he probably worries a bit about hitting someone with a 95mph fastball. I thought he should just hit someone and make the other team worry more. :-) Anyhow, he got squeezed a bit but Molitor should have let him fight through it. After the wild pitch he got two quick outs. Let him finish it.
  2. You don't know that. He's certainly not the first pitcher to run into trouble in the third inning. And Molitor should certainly give him more than one chance to find out. He's shown he can be a dominating starter at every minor league level - including AAA, even with his control problems.
  3. Maybe Meyer will never be a good pitcher. I don't know. But you don't treat a pitcher like Molitor treated him. I think it's pretty clear that Molitor and Ryan have different views of Meyer. Someone mentioned that Molitor voted to keep him in the bullpen during ST but Ryan overruled him. Molitor didn't pitch him for days after he was called up and had an extremely quick hook with him tonight. And his comments about how well Milone pitched were pretty nonsensical. Meyer has some really good stuff, which he showed at times tonight. And he has really bad control, which we also saw. Molitor has to trust him to pitch, which he doesn't. So now he's back in AAA, which makes no sense. We need to see him have chances to pitch out of jams and instead the manager threw him under the bus. I'm pretty sure if Gardy ever did something like this (and he never did), this place would be screaming.
  4. Graham called up. It's pretty obvious Molitor doesn't have faith in Meyer. I'd rather they kept Meyer and replaced Molitor.
  5. No, the books hint the other way.
  6. I guess that sort of depends on what you think he will be. I suspect he's far from not panning out as the OP wrote. I didn't think he'd be a consistent 8 WAR guy like Trout, either though. I think he can and will be an all-star CFer who, in his best seasons, will be among the best players in baseball. I'm not sure I'm willing to change that belief on his struggles at the ML level.
  7. Javier Baez was the first guy who jumped to my head. It's probably a bit early to give up on these guys' high ceilings. Strike out rates that high are fairly new things so you won't historically see those numbers anyway.
  8. I have to say, i do find it annoying how many Buxton is a bust threads that have shown up on TD. After we drafted him, he started something like 1-30 in rookie ball and there were threads saying "we should have drafted Appel or Zunino. He's a bust." He becomes the best prospect in baseball, has his 2014 season ruined by fluke injuries and comes back and hits AA and AAA pitching to a tune of .305/.367/.500 despite missing nearly a year and facing the hardest jump in the minors. And he struggles in his first taste of the majors, and we get the "he's a bust" threads again. He's going to be great. Relax.
  9. So, before we see the Tower of Joy, does anyone think Jon has a Twin sister?
  10. It's time to relax. Buxton just needs at-bats. He's only had about 1200 total and only 500 or so at AA or above (even counting his ML at-bats). He'll be fine.
  11. Looks like he'll be a second rounder and the Twins have a few of those, IIRC. So he's probably on their radar but he might go before they get a chance.
  12. Minor league ball had a little write up on Jordan Sheffield. His brother was a first round pick two years ago. MLBpipeline has him ranked #19 so he could be in play for the Twins. Has a little control issues but good pitch grades. Biggest knock on him seems to be the same one on Berris - he's too short.
  13. Apparently, the writers found the best weapon to get around story lines they don't like - the dagger! Fun episode - I enjoyed the wildlings taking Castle Black and Davos' dark humor. I never really liked the idea (hinted at in the books) that Tyrion is a Targaryian but I think that episode sealed it. And, eventually, FrankenMountain is going to be let loose. That'll be so much fun to see.
  14. I have no idea if Bruno is a good hitting coach but I thought Vavra was fine - he seemed to click with several different hitting types - LH sluggers like Morneau and Kubel liked him but punch and judy hitters did well with him too. Bruno was all the rage b/c of 1) Vavra sucks and 2) how well Benson and Parmelee were doing with him in AA. I think the general talent level the Twins have on their 40 man roster is ok. I'm pretty sure it's not meeting it's expectations. I'm not sure how much of that fits into 1) small sample size 2) bad coaching 3) player inexperience. But I think all three are in play.
  15. They'll win more than 70 - not that that should be the goal.
  16. They'll take best player. They always have but BPA can be pretty loose. That said, I think the minor league system is weak in both catchers (Turner could be an avg starter, I suppose) and third base (Polanco might play there but then I think you have to drop to rookie ball guys like Cabbage and Blankenhorn). I kind of hope a college third baseman is BPA this year but I'm not sure who that would be.
  17. Yeah, I'm not sure what they will do and I have no idea what the scouting community thinks but there are some interesting possibilities that might be there at 15. One option would be Alec Hanson (#64 on mlb's list). He was a preseason top 3 guy who had a wretched season and lost complete control. He seems like a clear Alex Meyer type so maybe the Twins think they could fix his control? Klaw's chat yesterday said Hansen would be a second round guy this year who might go back for his senior season to fix his approach. But if it's fixed, he's a front end starter. He's probably too much of a risk at 15 but if the Twins did it, I wouldn't blame them even if he flames out. MLB's top catcher is Zach Collins (#20 on the list) so he might be there for the Twins. He's an offense first guy who might not stick but ....
  18. mlbpipeline updated their draft list and it's now 100 players. Still doesn't look like a great draft, Logan Shore, for instance, is considered a future "back-end starter" and listed at #40. http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2016?list=draft Jim Callis also did a Draft question inbox - http://m.mlb.com/news/article/175101696/pipeline-inbox-2016-mlb-draft-questions?topicid=151437456
  19. I think this is on Molitor. I thought he might be holding him back to start in Duffey's place but it looks like Duffey will start Saturday. So, I have no idea why he hasn't gotten him into a game yet. I imagine it's a lack of trust since he last saw him in ST and he wasn't that effective.
  20. After April 11th, Park was hitting .143/.250/.286 with 12k in 24 at bats. He was benched for a couple games. Since then he has been hitting .297/.341/.730. And his krate has gone down while his walk rate has gone up. And that home run he hit last night was really impressive. He seems to be making pretty quick adjustments to ML pitching. Obviously, there are more to come but this has really been a nice start for him.
  21. Nice to see Buxton collecting hits. Hopefully a couple months at AAA and he'll be ready to come back.
  22. Radke, Santana, Baker were all pretty good starters and none of them were top 100 prospects. There are hundreds of very good players who were ignored as prospects.
  23. See, it's going to happen but how? Some people on the internet think Jon will be resurrected in his funeral pyre and not by the Red Woman - which will show the world that he is Targaryian. (One of the old Targaryian kings thought fire would resurrect him. He was wrong but it's in the books somewhere). So Mellasandre's faith might take a couple more hits this season.
  24. I don't have any problems with waiting for a pitcher or a hitter to make it to AA before you really believe in them. That's usually the toughest jump. I'll get excited before that but certainly the AA jump is a real thing. I hope that they both can make it. I had a lot of faith in Stewart coming into this year but not much in Gonsalves. Now, I'm really warming up to him.
  25. I would guess that Meyer will get a start after Milone's outing yesterday, regardless of anything else. With Gibson on the DL, they could run out Hughes/Santana/Berrios/Nolasco/Meyer for a couple turns to see what they have and make moves when Gibson is ready to come back.
