  1. Sorry to hear that. He certainly had some good moments for us. I think my feelings toward him were a roller coaster. He was head coach while I was in HS and college and I was a really intense fan. Sometimes I loved him and sometimes I blamed him for everything that went wrong. Oh well. Prayers to his family.
  2. As I understand it, the Twins have two more years where they could keep him in AAA if they wanted so they don't have to make a decision anytime soon. I expect he'll be a Sept call up and then get shuffled between the majors and minors the next two years.
  3. We were kicking the tires on it but decided to hold our money. I do expect the economy to go down so we haven't invested (and the darn thing keeps going up) but we also might invest in some real estate so ....
  4. Anyone jump on Netflix?
  5. I've never really bought the Pohlad family's claims that they didn't limit spending. I also figured that Molitor and Nolasco were Pohlad driven things. This is just a guess on what happened. Coming into the season, the Twins thought they could at least contend for a WC spot. Then **** happened. Jepsen and May were terrible. Plouffe was injured and uneven. Dozier was horrible early. Perkins and Hughes were terrible and then hurt. Rosario and Buxton struggled and were sent down. After a hot six weeks Park struggled. Nolasco still sucked. When Pohlad was trying to figure out what was going wrong, he probably talked to Molitor who would say the talent level wasn't there or wasn't ready. This was in contradiction to what his GM suggested so Pohlad fired Ryan.
  6. They all sound good. My guess is they hire someone else that we haven't heard of yet. Jim Pohlad seems to hear the fan complaints more than his father did so he'll hire outside the organization. But I also expect he'll try and save a few bucks so he won't hire a GM that will require a big salary - and most of these probably would. He'll hire someone who is willing to be the 30th highest paid GM in baseball and is comfortable with having the owner pick the manager.
  7. Nice write up Seth. My guess is that ownership will hire someone we haven't heard of. Jim Pohlad seems to hear the complaints of fans a lot more than his dad did. So he'll find a GM who is willing to live with Molitor.
  8. Three words: Molly likes him
  9. While I certainly plan on ripping/praising the new hire, I don't really know enough about anyone to know if they are the right person for the job. All five of those people sound good to me.
  10. Worst case scenario. Balt GM: (to Antony) Look, we both know the Pohlads are going a different direction. Here's what I'll do. Send me Sano for Chris Lee and you can be my asst GM next year. Antony: Deal!
  11. Yeah, I think we're going to see much lower payrolls again and we'll see guys like Sano leave in FA in a few years instead of sticking around. You can make a lot of money with a pretty ****ty team. Marlins, Astros ...
  12. Brutal. Just brutal. You wonder how much owners can screw things up but they can really screw things up.
  13. Wow. The Cardinal employee who hacked the Astros system (by using Lunhow's password) was sentenced to nearly 4 years in prison. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/17101079/chris-correa-former-st-louis-cardinals-scouting-director-sentenced-jail-hacking-houston-astros
  14. Mackey's tweet rant was pretty rough on Pohlad. I bet he's not getting a Xmas present this year.
  15. A couple tweets from Chip Scoggins - New GM can do anything but fire Molitor. Gad.
  16. Wouldn't the playing time/quick hooks on our younger players be on Molitor, not Ryan?
  17. I think it's actually pretty common. Off the top of my head you have Ned Colletti former Dodgers GM now the Senior Advisor and Doug Melvin, former Brewers manager who is now a senior advisor. Both were fired from their GM and managing duties.
  18. Some of the insular stuff should be taking down a notch. The Twins almost entirely cleared their organizational coaching staff since Ryan got back and hired the majority of new coaches from other organizations. True, they do have some long termed people but most orgs do. Seth can speak on it better but the minor league coaches under Smith are almost all gone. And Ryan created a new analyst department that didn't exist before and hired one of the younger farm director's in baseball in Brad Steil (who hopefully sticks around after the new GM comes in). He also hired away dozens of new scouts from other teams as well and added resources in Canada. Sure, Dave St Peter is still there but his impact on the baseball operations in nil.
  19. If that's true, the timing is strange. Unless the team doesn't expect to make any deadline moves?
  20. Ng left the Dodgers in 2011. She's been working for mlb since then.
  21. Yeah. The scary thing might be that ownership wants to lower payroll again (my guess is that was why Smith was fired). If we trade Santana for nothing but payroll relief, our rotation next year will be bad. And searching for a GM during the season strikes me as not the best way to do it. Wouldn't we want to wait until after the season to interview people connected with other teams?
  22. I'm not against that but I'm not sure she'd be the best candidate. I think the GM duty in MN would be seen as very attractive so a lot of people will want it. She was the asst GM for the Dodgers but the Dodgers did a lot of spending. I would assume the Twins will still be a farm-based team and want a GM with a bit more experience in player/farm development. Not sure if Ng is that person. (Also, not sure if she isn't).
  23. Wow. Well, best to Terry. He worked hard for this team for decades. I suspect the timing meant that he and the Pohlad family had a different view of what should happen at the trade deadline. I'm not sure what this means to Molitor, I always felt he was a Pohlad hire so I doubt he's gone. (Although I'm not a fan of this coaching staff). And Anthony is the logical interim GM. Nice to see that they will do a big GM search. And I would also assume that most people would look at the Twins GM job as a really nice prize.
  24. Romero has been really good sign by the international department. He signed for 260k in Oct 2011. mlbpipeline wrote this about him: "It's possible Romero would be talked about now as one of the better pitching prospects of the game if he hadn't gotten hurt. But the talented right-hander needed Tommy John surgery after just three starts in 2014, missing the rest of that and the 2015 season. Romero has a big arm when he's healthy, sitting in the 93-95 mph and touching the upper-90s. Romero's breaking ball has morphed a bit over time. It was more of a power curve two years ago before the injury, but it's turned into more of a slider and looked like it could be a plus one eventually based on how he was throwing it at instructs last fall. He has good feel for his changeup, giving him the chance to have three above-average pitches once he gets back to full strength. Romero is still learning how to pitch and there is certain to be some rust to shake off after nearly two years away from competitive pitching. If he can get back to where he was before the surgery, he has the chance to have among the best stuff in the Twins system."
