Nicely done. You and I are both bullish on the top two guys. I think many would put the pitchers there but I agree with you. Javier and Diaz are fun guys to watch, too, but they are still far away.
Maybe I'm reading too much into this but it seems like they might have 'promoted' Deron Johnson back into his strength - scouting - and out of draft planning. Not sure that's an actual promotion for him.
Just looking at some of the fan comments to Heyman's tweet, it looks like fans of the Yankees, Dodgers, Angels and Phillies are looking at adding Dozier. Not sure that's a reliable way to guess the interested teams though.
Per Heyman, four or five teams have interest in Dozier, who is also going to be at the winter meetings for a marketing requirement. But that means he'll almost certainly be able to meet with future potential bosses which will probably be a good thing. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/12/four-to-five-teams-interested-in-brian-dozier.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+MlbTradeRumors+%28MLB+Trade+Rumors%29
Slightly off topic and I'm not sure if it's been addressed on here yet but has anyone else been enjoying SNL's Trump skits? http://jezebel.com/trump-really-just-cannot-stop-watching-snl-1789659809 The scream at 4:05 in this one actually made me to a spit take.
Brad Steil and company have done a fine job promoting prospects as warranted - Berrios did two levels nearly every year and was in the first HS pitcher picked from the 2012 draft to make the majors. Stewart and Gonsalves were two of the youngest pitchers in AA. Landa is an undersized RH pitcher with control problems.
Twins should start by asking for Alvarez, of course, but I don't think the Dodgers can trade Alvarez. He's (arguably) their best prospect but they also made a huge financial commitment to him - nearly 16m + a huge tax penalty. I think he and Urias are their only untouchables.
I really liked last years draft for a variety of reasons but one of those was because they drafted a ton of really young players. A lot of 17 year olds and guys with limited exposure but high ceilings. Obviously, Balazovic falls into that group. We probably won't be able to judge the 2015 draft class for a while yet but it'll be fun to watch a lot of these guys.
That's a thought. Take Ethier (owed 20m counting buy out) to get a better return on Dozier or a second trade? I think Atlanta did something similar a year or two ago from Arizona although on a smaller scale. I'm ok with it but we do have 25 years of Pohlad family ownership which suggests that it's a fantasy.
I never understood the angst over the all-star game and HFA. The old system just switched it back and forth. That wasn't any better. At least this plan - best record - makes a little more sense.
I like that - game score has some issues (and favors strike out pitchers) but I like stats that look a bit more at individual games rather than a compiled season of stats.
Several years ago when he was just a scout under Bill Smith, Klaw actually answered my question on what Ryan was like as a scout. Klaw was very impressed. Said something like Ryan didn't miss anything and looked at things that he (Klaw) wouldn't have thought of (how the third baseman acted between pitches). He was very complementary toward Ryan's scouting abilities.
