  1. Has anyone heard any rumors of any other teams being in on Dozier? It would be nice if the Twins could create a bidding war but with the Angels out, I don't know of any other team.
  2. Well if the new management can save the Pohlads a few bucks ...
  3. Nah, but he managed to take a swipe at the Twins anyway.
  4. It's possible that Bert discussed getting traded out of Cleveland before 1985. His 81 and 82 seasons were a bit crappy - injuries, I believe - so maybe management did think about moving him before it finally did.
  5. I do hope that the Twins FO tries to trade for some of the extra comp picks but I'm not sure if anyone is actually willing to trade theirs. All of those teams seem to be in rebuild mode as well.
  6. As bad as Trump can be, I still think the big massive companies - Wells Fargo, Disney, Exxon, etc - will be protected over the next four years. I'm not sure where to invest in tech because 1) I'm not sure what's what and 2) I'm not sure GOP policies will be good for silicon valley. And, if nothing else, index funds are fairly safe if boring.
  7. Bloodlines, man. Bloodlines.
  8. Oh, sure. If Greene is clearly the BPA, take him. I'm just hoping that it's the college pitcher instead. (And I'm not sure Urias is a fair comp - Urias has been in a ML system since 2013. There have been US drafted HS pitchers quick to the majors, too).
  9. I'm really hoping the Florida pitcher - Faedo - has a big year. I want us to draft a top line pitcher who is fast to the majors and would rather trust a college arm over a HS one.
  10. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/12/2017-competitive-balance-draft-pick-order.html So it looks like they have the #1, 35, and 37 picks.
  11. More team control and Span had injury risks, as well.
  12. Well, the problem is that you are putting a lot of trust in the defensive calculations of WAR. And he's going into one of the bigger NL parks. There is real risk there. I also read on one of the White Sox forums that he has a player opt out but I don't think that's right. Cots just lists it as a team option.
  13. Maybe we wait to move him until Nova signs? I think Nova is only "good" pitcher left in FA, right?
  14. Somewhere is a dark basement, DaveW is laughing his tail off
  15. Twins could trade their rule v pick. I find that surprising.
  16. I hate that only DaveW is the only source on this. Nothing against DaveW but I wish someone else would let something slip. Plus, I'm going on vacation tomorrow so I want it NOW!
  17. Unreal. Eaton's bat was better than I thought but giving up Giolito? Not sure I'd have done that. His value must be lower inside the industry than in fans eyes.
  18. While, by WAR, Sale and Dozier have been pretty equal the last three years, Sale does have a few advantages. First, pitching is always paid at a premium. Second, he has more years of control (albeit at a much higher salary). Third, adding a pitching piece moves everyone down the staff so a LH pitcher who might have been your 5th starter can become a shut down loogy.
  19. It's too early to judge though. Gordon has been pretty much what was expected.
  20. Yes. Why are you so down on Gordon? You wanted the Twins to draft him. He's a HS kid so it takes longer.
  21. I don't have a problem keeping Santana since he is a solid ML starter with a proven track record and we need at least one. But I am a little surprised that there are no rumors on him. I suspect we might hear things after the FA well dries up. But would you rather have Santana or Rich Hill for the next three years?
  22. Any word on who else gets comp picks in the upcoming draft?
  23. Well, true. Crawford would go much higher in a redraft now but was never considered a top 5 talent - although he had some helium, IIRC. At the same time, Stewart isn't a bust yet. I'd still take Gordon over Nola. Nola was exactly the kind of pitcher posters here were against. Most wanted Alex Jackson or Gordon over Nola who was often compared to Wimmers. Nola was considered a fast to the majors pitcher but considered more of a #3 than a top of the rotation guy with injury risk because of his mechanics. And, so far, that was more or less right - in the majors at 22. 33 starts, 188ip, 94 ERA+, 1.8 WAR but with much more strike outs than expected. And he finished the year on the 60 day DL with UCL and flexor problems.
  24. I know you would but that doesn't mean you're right. Steil took over in 2012 and we've seen pretty impressive breakouts from both big name prospects but also seen lesser name prospects develop. We've seen fast in-season promotions. Last year we started to see results start to come from the 2012 draft and the 2009 signing period (which is realistically pretty good). Give the young guys time.
  25. Seems like a fair deal to me. The #1 prospect, another top 100 guy and two upside(?) prospects who may or may not work out.
