  1. This list is a pretty damning piece of evidence in the prosecution's case in the "fire TR?" debate. Dominated by"unlikely's" and "impossible"s", and the rest consisting entirely of "we should be so lucky as for someone to claim him" and a couple "perhaps worth a bag of balls" types. How does a team end up in this position, year after year?
  2. The article specifically lists Hunter as a reason, no?
  3. So it does matter...it's about a couple weeks big league pay, potentially service time. I hope Buxton files a grievance.
  4. As for Hunter, he has been a welcome addition to this team, IMO, and the Twins have gotten more from him than they had any right to expect. But that has nothing to do with Buxton. Nothing. If they don't think Buxton is ready for the big leagues, fine. Just say so. But a couple weeks in AAA will do zero to remedy that, so that can't be it. And if he is ready, Torii Hunter shouldn't be an obstacle. Lastly, TR quit on this team a month ago, so please don't tell us this is about competing in 2015. That's laughable. This is a team still running Shane Robinson out, ferpetesake.
  5. Why activate him? Why not just let the rehab play out?
  6. I think pimping a HR IS disrespectful to the other team and the game. Drill em.
  7. wait...now he's the best shortstop in the game? ? I thought he was old, injury prone, and and too expensive..
  8. Many of us here are disappointed in TR's actions this summer. I myself, a pretty die hard fan, find myself a little less motivated to watch, and I LOVE watching the Twins. Is is so difficult to imagine some of the players on the team may be disappointed too? They felt like they had busted their ass, had given themselves a chance, but needed some help? And then saw that need basically ignored by the front office? Players are human beings. I can't imagine at least some of them NOT being disappointed, and perhaps pressing, or maybe unconsciously trying just a bit less hard.
  9. You don't think you're exercising a bit of circular logic here? "Players have to be depressed that the front office didn't help them." "That's ridiculous. BTW, Dozier has sucked since the front office did nothing."
  10. Concur, with the exception of walks being better than everything except extra base hits. Even singles are better than walks, since they can and often do advance runners more than one base. Otherwise, I agree...making the pitcher throw strikes to get you out is very important and not something the Twins as a whole are very good at. One thing I do like about Bruno's philosophy is, if you get a good pitch to hit, swing at it.
  11. OK, I'll bite, bird. What IS the strategy? The many positive steps? What weaknesses have they actually addressed? I'll give you throwing a medium amount of dollars at starting pitching. Besides that?
  12. I don't think the ERA difference matters much for relievers with few IP. I don't think there's a great deal of difference in the likely performance of the two for the last 2 months of 2015. If forced to guess which one pitches better the rest of this year, I probably go with Broxton. And I don't care one bit about the salary. TR apparently valued another year of control, but my gut tells me if they offer arb this winter to Jepsen, it won't end well.
  13. I think the problem is neither Escobar nor Nunez ARE viable options at SS.
  14. If the measure is to win the WS, and not just play a couple games before being sent home, then Ryan has never been successful, right? Because that's the limit of his teams' achievement under his guidance.
  15. I think it's entirely fair to question the effort. I get the impression Ryan doesn't like certain parts of his job, and from that, while it's pure speculation, I speculate that perhaps he doesn't work as hard at those parts as some other GMs do. I might be way off, who knows? But I don't picture Ryan burning the phones at 2 AM July 31st, desperataly trying every last avenue to improve his team. I don't picture him working the room, over and over again, at the winter meetings, setting the groundwork for a deal that winter, or a deal that might come together in late July. In any case, whether he does that or not, at some point results matter, no?
  16. I think it's pretty obvious the Twins just don't swim at that end of the pool. Acquiring a player of Tulowitski's stature, and paycheck, is not within the realm of what's considered possible, regardless if it's a good idea or not. 600 post thread, and fun to talk about, but my gut instinct is not one single post--including the original post--is from someone who considered this a realistic possibility. Because deep down, we all know the Twins don't consider it a realistic possibility.
  17. I don't see a fundamental difference between the two trades. Both were overpays, indicating an inability by the GM to properly value players and execute a strategy to acquire them. There isn't a difference in overpaying for a Yugo, or overpaying for a Dodge, or overpaying for a Ferrari. They're all overpays. And we know Jepsen was an overpay. Broxton is pretty much the same guy. The only fundamental difference between Jepsen and Broxton is the Twins have an arb year left on Jepsen....which might not even be a GOOD thing. Broxton was virtually free. Jepsen cost someone ranked SOMEwhere on the Twins prospect list (and another arm, BTW...eerily similar to the fact Smith ADDED another player to the Capps deal). Exactly where Hu is on that list, 15, 20, whatever, isn't really the point. The point is, Jepsen shouldn't have cost that much.
  18. According to the post game notes from the STrib, Molitor didn't want a bunt. He wanted a ground ball. I'm not sure which is worse, actually.
  19. Concur. Concurconcurconcurconcurconcurconcur. Agree. "Like." IMO Ryan not only did virtually nothing, he somehow managed to overpay for it. And for a bonus, he somehow turned unexpected contention into a huge negative vibe to boot. Incredible.
  20. Chiming in late: glad to see Molitor find a way to get his effective LHer into a 1-5 game, and his ineffective LHer into a tie game.
  21. Hunter with a HR. That should piss a few posters off.
  22. It's less "angst" than disappointment over a feeble effort--yet again--coupled with amazement that the Twins possibly overpaid for a feeble effort. As drjim points out, TR was focused on not buying a rental. Well, if that works out, bully for him. But that's not a guarantee and it really limited his options. There's also no guarantee Jepsen is a guy we'll even want in next years pen, but he's going to get $5m in arb and be in next years pen no matter how he does. That's just about a lock to happen. So TR quite possibly not only went cheap, he managed to overspend while doing so.
