  1. Things I didn't expect to see in my lifetime: intentionally walking Aaron Hicks to pitch to Mauer.
  2. It only seems like there's 18 batters in the game when the Twins pen is at work. There's really only the one guy at the plate at any given time.
  3. By the way, not to worry. 'Pens got this.
  4. I'm to the point where I won't complain if they have Mauer sacrifice bunt.
  5. You'd think that guy would have a spot on the 2015 Minnesota Twins. Maybe WE should trade for him. Offer up Shane Robinson and see if Rochester bites. Include Duensing if necessary.
  6. Concur. Strongly. You've stated much more clearly the point my feeble mind was trying to make about "thinking big" vs "thinking small."
  7. I guess my opinion won't change much regardless the results...that'd be hindsight. you can only act on the best info you have at the time. Unless we learn there's some chronic injury that is inevitably going to debilitate him, of course. And its likely the Twins knew of it. Then I would have to change my opinion.
  8. Agreed. And I viewed Tulowitzki as a unique opportunity. a combination of fit, need, motivated seller, buyer with money. The kind that won't come around often.
  9. I do agree they should be careful on rentals. As for gambles on $100m gambles on declining players, aren't we both arguing for that? We just disagree on the timing?
  10. That's a fair point. I hope you're right. Actually, what I really hope is the Twins get to a point where we can find out if you're right.
  11. The Royals started trading the farm when they sent Myer and Odirizzi to TB for Shields...a move they were widely criticized for here, because they weren't "ready to win." And SIX YEARS of Will Myer!
  12. Fair enough. Although as Jimmer pointed out, I'll need to see TR actually strike before I'll believe the time will ever be right. Not to mention, assets might not be available if they ever do decide it's time, and/or they might not have the assets to trade. They can't outspend for big league talent, they refuse to outspend for international talent or in the draft. They won't trade for established big league talent. Rebuilds on that model have a way of seldom if ever getting to the promised land. Hell, they've got a team right now that is on the WC chase and Blaine Boyer is still in the bullpen. Jason Tyner, DH if you want an example from their "sustained success.". Call me emotional, but that doesn't give me much confidence the Twins under TR are going to be aggressive when you think they will be.
  13. I think perhaps you misread my intent. Probably due to my inarticulate communication skills. Of course I want the Twins to win. But they're not going to have much chance to actually do that by continuing to pretend this is the 1960's, that slow and steady wins the race, that the minor leagues have to supply all your talent, that taking on salary is somehow cheating, that making a mistake is a death knell to be avoided at all costs even if it means you also avoid the chance to get better. This was a real opportunitiy. The Twins didn't have the courage to pursue it, and it's just another example of small thinking. I'd rather they pursue greatness and either get there or fail spectacularly, than pursue mediocrity and achieve it. As for your savvy friends, I'm not real concerned with their opinions. Following pro sports is supposed to be emotional, why else would anyone do it?
  14. I've been a Twins fan for over 50 years. I don't think my fandom has ever been tested to this extent. Not through all the losing years. Not through the playoff losses. I'm so disgusted with Terry Ryan I can't even begin to describe it. IMO he is giving every single one of us a big, fat, high middle finger. And expecting us to pay for the privilege.
  15. He got the out, but another horrible 0-2 pitch, this time from Perkins. Horr. i. ble.
  16. Keep pilin' it on boys...we're still into OUR bullpen, too.
  17. I'd say TR f'd it up long ago, but yeah...
  18. I blame Fien as much as Duensing. You simply can't give up back to back 0-2 hits. There's no excuse for that. None. Zero. Zilch. And you can't walk the LH number nine hitter if you're Duensing. NO excuse for that, either. And it's all traceable to TR and his dithering, delaying, candy-ass GM'ing. Can't help the team, when it was obvious two months ago they needed bullpen help. Thank god there's still all that depth down in A ball.
