  1. While I agree the cost of attending an MLB game is high, if you plan on eating there, it can be argued this hasn't had much effect on total attendance. Ticket prices, if you stay out of the high dollar areas, are often relative bargains compaired to other major sports. You can't get near an NFL game for the cost of a mid range MLB ticket. Total MLB attendance is virtually unchanged over the last 20 years, since 1998. https://www.forbes.com/sites/maurybrown/2018/10/03/how-mlb-attendance-dropped-below-70-million-for-first-time-in-15-years/#5aa824dc61bf It is true there has been a significant drop since peaking in 2007. I do concur DSP shouldn't speak publicly.
  2. I quibble with the idea that 1 for 11 indicates a bad matchup. Cruz had the entire NL East swing off, why would he need another day? I quibble with the idea that Eddie Rosario (or anyone) needs a day off halfway through April.
  3. Mejia got pretty lucky in his full inning, giving up a hit and then a screaming line drive that turned into a DP....but hey, we'll take it. Pretty nice job from Odorizzi.
  4. Buxton had the day off after he ran into a wall. Rosario and Polanco have been in all 14 games. I dont know why anyone would need a day off at this point anyway. It's April, and they've played 14 friggin games. I have little to complain about Baldelli so far but that's one thing I hope changes. I can see giving someone a rest in the middle of this upcoming stretch if games, or to help heal a nagging injury, but now?
  5. minor point but I believe Smoak is a switch hitter, no? I also lay more blame at the feet of Trevor May, who allowed a ground ball single, then became afraid to throw strikes.
  6. Well, yeah, but other than that, what'd you think of the play, Mrs Lincoln?
  7. we are up to at least three bad early season outings now.
  8. Me likey. After watching Mauer start 91.57 percent of his PAs by watching strike one split the plate, and pulling my (little remaining) hair out, it's a refreshing change. Just make sure it's a good pitch to swing at.
  9. You're right, the Twins missed an opportunity in the bottom of the first. If only Polanco had sacrificed Kepler to third, Kepler would have scored.
  10. So let's say they keep Austin and cut Cron. What happens if Austin gets injured (or ineffective) before one of those guys is ready? If you think Austin is a better player than Cron in 2019, fine. But concerns over who plays first base if the one they keep can't play isn't a valid argument. The situation would be exactly the same. BTW, Cron will be the better player in 2019.
  11. We are about to find out if this team has the pitching to contend. 37 games in 38 days is a lot to ask, and I think the shallow bullpen is about to get exposed. Hope I'm wrong. Kimbrel could be here in a couple three weeks...
  12. None of which makes me think Rogers should have been warming up in the fifth inning.
  13. If you warm up Rogers every time you MIGHT need an out, he’ll be on the IL by May. If Odo doesn’t walk the pitcher he stays in the game, and you’ve wasted Rogers. And to repeat myself from another thread, every reliever in the pen will be asked to pitch high leverage spots. Some more than others, for sure, but there are too many close games to think any reliever won’t ever be in spots that will impact the game. In this specific case, if you use Rogers for one out (which, again, means he was warming up before you decided you needed a reliever), you’re left with 12 outs to get.
  14. Andrew Vasquez was recalled specifically for that one hitter he was supposed to face in the 5th inning. You're not going to use Rogers to get one out in the fifth, with the pitcher's spot due up next half inning, and 12 more outs to get. Baldelli did exactly as he should have. The blame is on Vasquez, or more accurately Falvine for not having better pen options.
  15. Some of you'se aren't getting the spirit and intent of Randball's articles.
  16. Huh, I thought Oakland's stadium was called "in dire need of replacement" this year, just like past years.
  17. The Twins are short of starting pitching, you have that part correct. But they're just as short, if not shorter, in the pen. You can't get through the season with three arms. You can rarely even get through a series.
  18. You plan for 6 innings in every game you win, and plan ahead for your top 4 relievers to only pitch on those days? Do you schedule the wins in advance?
  19. Every reliever, on every team, will end up pitching important innings. You can't just use the top 3 day after day and expect them to carry the load. Even if Odo and Gibson go 7, you still need bullpen coverage on those days, and every day the Twins play. Using only the top end in every close game is unworkable. Good bullpens have multiple good arms, because all arms get used, and used in situations that matter. Demanding more from the starters is a nice thought, but that was going to be difficult to achieve for this year's Twins team. However, adding bullpen arms was simple.
  20. That collection of relievers in Rochester is not going to be much help, is it? Maybe Romero, at some point.
  21. I fear Falvine's inactivity regarding the pitching staff this past winter is going to be difficult to overcome. Yeesh. The bullpen is thinner than my wallet.
