    I'm not a big fan of using hindsight to judge trades. I understand things can change, but it's hard for me to give credit for things that happen years from now. I think you judge be what's known at the time of the trade. I wouldn't hold it against the Twins if Alcala gets hurt, you can't know that in advance. But I also am reluctant to give a whole lot of credit if he turns into a valuable reliever. You can't know THAT, either. Judged by how it affected the teams at the time of the trade, and the year or two after, it was a pretty awful trade, IMO. Unnecessary, also.

    This trade was one of the few clear failures of the Falvine regime. Made no sense.

    concur...and from an 0-2 count. You also can't just let him take second and third with the Twins seemingly barely noticing.

    It's an embarrassment to MLB that Del Poso is on a roster. 16 BBs in 11 career IP. That's not major league baseball.

    they'll just have every team get in as many games as they can, and determine post season spots by winning percentage. And I'm fine with that. There was no great plan to be had. We have baseball. Let's just enjoy what we get, and not let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

    Among the many things Twins management deserves credit for, turning the pen into a legit strength comes in at the top for me. I'm a big believer in the importance of relievers to winning and losing. And both the FO and the field manager seem to me to have made it a priority. I want to give Rocco special credit for another thing...he's really good at not only using relievers by situations rather than innings, he's also way more proactive in getting his pen into a game than previous managers. I strongly believe in the old "lose a game early, its on the starter, lose a game late, its on the manager" saying. Rocco doesn't often lose games due to waiting until his starter has blown a lead and THEN trudging forlornly out to the mound to summon a reliever--AKA a "Molitor". No manager is perfect, but Rocco is light years better at taking his starter out before that happens.

    Huh? The strike zone last night was incredibly good, and consistent. There were less than 5 possible missed calls, by my count. One would have been a called 3rd strike for Dobnak, but resulted in only one more pitch, a ground ball out. Umpiring was not a factor at all.

    Well, sure. Ownership could take an even bigger loss than projected. I dont think that's a reasonable way forward. Keep in mind, like many industries, I expect baseball will take several years to fully recover from the damage done by covid. Things wont just magically return to previous levels in 2021.

    but they're not getting the full revenues from other sources. If they have an 82 game schedule for example, they'd be getting half of that 25 percent from central revenue. TV isnt going to pay for a full season, when they're only getting half. So half of 25 = 12.5 percent, plus 11 percent local tv, plus 5.5 percent sponsorship, plus 2 percent other. Plus zero percent on stadium. Add that up, and for an 82 game schedule, MLB revenues should be roughly 31 percent of preseason estimates. You cant take in 31 percent of revenue, and pay 50 percent of player salaries. Doesnt work.

    I dont need to see any "books" to understand that ownership's revenue, with zero in-stadium revenue, will not be half of what it would be with fans on the stands. So I dont need "books" to know that paying players half their salaries is not feasible for ownership. I also dont need "books" to know that ALL the financial risk is on the ownership side. I know that I want MLB to return, and that it will be ownership who makes that happen, not the players. Neither side caused the pandemic. But only one side--the players--are preventing the resumption of play. Screw them. I hope this causes the eventual collapse of the MLBPA. Would serve them right.

    This is 100 percent on the players. One. Hundred. Percent. I dont often side with ownership, but they are the ones trying to get a season going. It's the players pissing and moaning about money. Trying to use this situation to negotiate the next CBA.

    Players haven't shared in the increased revenues over the past decades?? And They aren't getting offered 1/2 their salary for 1/2 the games because owners dont expect 1/2 the revenue. These aren't honest arguments you're making, Mike.

    Ted, you've completely ignored the 70% drop in revenue. If revenues go from $10B to $3B, it's not unreasonable for owners to demand players salaries drop massively. And as Nick mentions, taking more from higher salaried employees than lower is a pretty reasonable and standard business practice. This article is not well thought out. In fact, it's ridiculously biased.

On top of that, it’s getting taxed. So imagine how much I’m actually making to play, you know what I’m saying? Like, I ain’t making (expletive). And on top of that, so all of that money’s gone and now I play risking my life.” Blake Snell I read somewhere that 40% of wage earners who make 40K or less are currently unemployed, but baseball players feel put upon being asked to take less. Screw them. I hope Blake Snell never earns another penny playing baseball. Let him earn his living digging ditches. Offer his job to a minor leaguer. I could not be more disgusted with the MLBPA.

    I simply cant get behind the players on this. The entire world is hurting, unemployment in the US is at great depression levels, and players are going to argue over compensation? Shame on them.
