  1. I would say the always transient nature of an MLB team is yet another reason to add when you have a chance. Your rotation (or pen, or lineup) in July isn't guaranteed to be there in October. Dobnak started because that's all they had left.
  2. I agree with paragraphs 2 and 3. As for the pipeline, you have one semi-established starter (Ryan, who I'll give you although he wasn't part of any pipeline discussion over the winter), one sure thing reliever (Duran), and one useful pen piece (Jax). Smeltzer doesn't belong in this conversation. Ober...maybe. But here we are in the middle of a contending year and we can't even find an intriguing reliever in said "pipeline."
  3. What I remember: They dipped their toes in the water rather than dive in, despite having a team everyone here seems to be waiting for. What I don't remember is any of the minor leaguers traded away. I also remember Zac Gallen, Marcus Stroman, Zach Grienke, Trevor Bauer, and Tanner Roark getting moved. There was starting pitching available.
  4. Jax started 14 games. Moran got 8 sporadic innings in September.
  5. Which players currently in the Twins minor leagues guarantee that will happen? A few months ago many here were ecstatic over the "pitching pipeline(tm)" that was going to supply an endless stream of top level pitching to the Twins as soon as 2022. Today Jhoan Duran and Jovanni Moran are the sole addition to last year's staff, and the clearest need is pitching. It's an open question whether the Twins even HAVE the pieces in the minor leagues to get quality help. Last year the return for Berrios was lauded...where are those two today? When opportunity knocks, open the door. There's no guarantee he knocks again.
  6. I don't think it's all that complicated. They need pitching help. Get some, and do your best to take advantage of an opportunity when that opportunity is in front of you. I don't buy for a second there's some reason to believe better opportunities are sure to be there in the future. Even if YOU do, so what? Why would you prefer a possibility over a reality (this year)? I also don't think I'd term Ryan Jeffers as a "key piece" of the lineup. That seems to me to be inventing "complications."
  7. You're in a bit of a no-lose situation here... Doing something significant would be significant. But doing nothing significant would also be...significant.
  8. Speaking of which, the Mets should have Bobby Bonilla announce their picks. Get some use out of the million bucks they're still shelling out every year until 2145. Plus Rajai Davis can't pick out a suit, and can't remember his lines.
  9. One thing for sure...in Trevor Plouffe the Twins have the clear winner in the "used to be with the team, pick announcer" sweepstakes.
  10. That's a great point I'm shocked.
  11. But we're talking about prospects...in which case 21 IS "old" Not many players will be drafted who are older. I absolutely love the pick, but he is "old" in the context of the draft.
  12. And...a reach with the next pick.
  13. In Prielipp's case, though, the TJS is in the rear view mirror far enough to almost be a non factor.
  14. Ha...only needed to last 2 more picks, but he gone. That would have been incredible.
  15. I'm no draftnic, and value prospects as little as probably anyone on this board, but so far this draft has gone incredibly well for the Twins. No way Lee drops to 8, and NO WAY Prielipp drops to 48!
  16. I can't even pretend to be any kind of draftnick, but this seems to me like the best possible scenario for our Twins.
  17. You're on for a beverage at a game...same 2 to 1?
  18. I would make a joke about Mauer behind the plate but that would be just wrong so I wont.
  19. Playing any position as a regular counts. How about: accumulate an average of 3 PAs/game for 2 months?
  20. You're on. Beverage of choice next time we're at a game together. 2 beverages for me!
  21. Don't be ridiculous. They currently have THIRTEEN pitchers on staff. And they've had something like 30 so far this year! PLENTY of pitching.
