  1. Wait, what? I can't see a trade for Goldschmidt happening, but...he is exactly the type of hitter we DON'T have in the lineup.
  2. No need to apologize. I just disagree. It's pretty straightforward to me. Get better. And it doesn't seem to me complicated.
  3. Every hitter everywhere, since ancient Egypt, looks to hit mistakes. That's not an offensive breakthrough. I don't think there's much similarity between current hitting philosophy and 2019. Your mileage may differ. The evidence isn't with you, though.
  4. 1. I specifically said I don't know if Rowson is any kind of answer. His teams haven't been good since leaving. But 2. Nicksaviking (and wabene) specifically mentioned the 2019 Twins as an example of "the same" offense philosophy as 2023. That's demonstrably wrong. The 2019 Twins did NOT sacrifice Ks for power. They surely had better hitters. But, that teams philosophy was NOT the same as 2023. Or at least they didn't rack up Ks at an astounding rate in search of power. And I'd sure as heck prefer to give Rowson another shot compared to the current disaster.
  5. Maybe you SHOULD look up the stats I don't know whether Rowson is any kind of answer, but it's wrong to claim he coached the 2019 team to the same offensive philosophy as the 2023 Twins. Or at least wrong to imply they had similar results. The 2019 Twins under Popson had a team OPS of .832 with a team SLG of .495. And Were the 6th lowest in MLB with a K rate of 20.5%. That's correct...only 5 teams K'd less than our 300 HR Twins. That team actually DID hit for a ton of power, and didn't rack up a ton of K's doing so. BTW that 2019 team hit .270. As a team. That seems like an impossible dream just 4 years later, but it's true...you could look it up. The 2023 team doesn't actually hit for a lot of power, but geez-oh-man they sure K like they're trying. And do they even HAVE anyone hitting. 270? ;) https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=np&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=0&type=1&season=2019&month=13&season1=2019&ind=0&team=0,ts&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&startdate=2019-01-01&enddate=2019-12-31&sort=4,d https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/MIN/2019.shtml I don't think @nicksaviking looked up the stats either.
  6. 1. Goldschmidt was an example. It could be somebody(s) else. There's basically nobody anyone should worry about replacing or moving. It's as straightforward as straightforward can be. 2. But If you want to talk Goldschmidt specifically, ok. He's at .284/.369/.475 for the year. With a LONG history of stellar production, including a .981 OPS in 650 PAs as recently as last year. He's 35, so maybe that's his last great year, but he's without question better today than any current Twin. It's not even close, and he's likely to be so for another year at least. 3. Nobody said he would "fix" this offense. I was addressing the OP's point that it wouldn't be "straightforward" to improve the offense. Well, yeah, it would. Get better hitters. That'll improve the offense, and except for SS and perhaps 2b it's pretty straightforward to put a new guy in and drop or shift the incumbent. It couldn't be MORE straightforward. Who are we worried about losing playing time? Joey Gallo? 4. If you don't think swapping out Goldschmidt for Kepler, for example, is a straightforward way to improve the offense, then I don't know what to tell you. Or the OP author. 5. Goldschmidt specifically is a pipe dream anyway. I doubt StL trades him and if so, it won't be to the Twins. Again, he's an example of how perfectly straightforward it would be to improve the offense.
  7. Concur. It's hard for me to understand someone making that argument. And to top it off, most of the same people consider Ks the holy grail of pitching.
  8. Actually, it's really very straightforward. There is nothing complicated, for example, by putting a Paul Goldschmidt at 1b. Nothing. It's a no brainer. You move Kirilloff somewhere in the OF. Done. You don't even need to give that 1 second of thought. What are we worried about...Gallo? Kepler? The Twins are giving regular playing time to Donovan Solano, MAT, Joey Gallo, Max Kepler. Willi Castro. Kyle Farmer. Hell, we've recently seen Solano hitting 4th. There's AMPLE opportunity to improve the lineup. Easy, low hanging fruit. It's pretty straightforward. Nobody is getting pushed out of anything deserved or showing huge promise. I suppose there'd be some fans clamoring for Trevor Larnach, but he's proven nothing. Earned nothing. He's currently got a lower MLB OPS than Kepler, ferpetesakes.
  9. Uh....the hip joint "balls" at the top of the femurs... Phrasing, Chief. Phrasing.
  10. Both hips. Shaved the balls to better fit the hip joints. https://www.starnewsonline.com/story/sports/mlb/2023/07/09/walker-jenkins-mlb-draft-minnesota-twins-south-brunswick-baseball/70387269007/ Has no hamate bone. https://www.wwaytv3.com/1-on-1-with-walker-jenkins/
  11. I'm not a draftnick at all, but Already a corner outfielder, with surgeries on both hips and a broken hamate bone in his medical history? Eekah-zeekah.... Hope it works out.
  12. And while I have a good rant on...WHY WERE THE ORIOLES OUT THERE TAKING INFIELD PRIOR TO TODAY'S GAME, BUT IT'S APPARENTLY TOO MUCH BOTHER FOR ROCCO'S TWINS??? Disgusting. Is this rec league or major league baseball?
  13. For me it's a larger issue than just today's beat down. Today's game isn't the point. It's Rocco's complete lack of anything resembling building a real team. They don't take regular infield, they don't take regular BP. Players aren't asked to actually play every game. Rocco and/or the front office don't feel the need to bother their players with tried and true techniques to hone their craft. Meanwhile, real big-league managers have their 2nd place in the ALE team out there in the sun on a Sunday get away day right before the AS break taking BP and infield. And there's Rutschman, catching back to back games. Santander still in RF in the 9th inning of a 15-2 game. Meanwhile Rocco can't wait to get his 'stars' back in the shade and on the bench. I'm so done with Baldelli. Sooooooo done.
  14. This is rock bottom for 2023, IYAM. -it started bottom 1. You get a walk and a double to start the game, with the eminently hittable Kyle Gibson on the mound, and your 3 4 5 hitters can't even push a second run across. - said Kyle Gibson somehow goes 7 innings, gives up no more walks 1 more run, and Ks 11. Set Down 17 straight at one point. Kyle. Blanking. Gibson. The 11 Ks is a career high, BTW. - Aaron. Blanking. Hicks. Are you KIDDING me?? - Buxton somehow manages to swing and miss AT A 3-0 Fastball. LOL. I'm not sure, but I don't believe I've ever seen that before, and I'm willing to bet I'll never see it again. A 3-0 fastball. Pretty much batting practice. Swing and a miss. From a MLB hitter. Hitting 3rd in your lineup, no less. Talk about embarrassing. Just freaking awful. Said it after Atlanta series, agree with Aggies above...how has nobody lost their job yet? At the very minimum, how do the hitting coaches-yes, coaches. More than 1-still have jobs?
  15. "Black clouds over Target Field, downtown Minneapolis"
  16. Lol. Aaron Hicks torments the Twins. You can't make it up. That was blistered.
  17. People watch strike 3 every game. I bet you can watch the next 10 seasons and not see a swing and miss on a 3-0 fastball.
  18. Buxton gets the green light 3-0...and swings and misses. At a fastball. Lol. How does a MLB player swing and miss a 3-0 fastball?? Embarrassing.
  19. It's literally their job to trade away the bad ones. The trick, of course, is to differentiate between the bad ones and ones before it's obvious. They haven't distinguished themselves, IYAM
  20. I'm not very pleased to only get 1 run there.
  21. To be fair, though, it's PRECISELY the job of the people evaluating talent, at all levels, to be right more often than wrong. And I think it's damn tough to make an argument in the Twins favor on this critical job. You can't name very many real success stories, particularly hitters.
  22. I'd say the bigger mistake was who they traded FOR, rather than who they traded away.
