  1. Which is completely irrelevant. Would you say the Twins payroll was $70m in September when Buxton, Correa, Kepler and Ryan were on the IL?
  2. Detroit's 2024 payroll is $98.5M.
  3. The article also says the Padres are still available via local cable/satellite systems. That seems like the key to me. Get rid of the blackouts, which will mean less money from cable/satellite, but add some revenue back through streaming.
  4. One thing the Padres didn't do with Merrill is sit him against LH pitching. A little more than 1/4 of his 2024 PAs came against LH pitching. And he only put up a .641 OPS. But lookie here....in the postseason he's not only in the lineup against Max Fried, he's batting 5th. And he ropes a 2 run double to center off Max Fried. Merrill wouldn't have been in that game were he a Twin.
  5. It struck me as ... ominous for Levine when the Twins announced that Falvey and Baldelli would be returning for 2025, but conspicuously didn't mention Levine. My gut tells me he's gone. What the impact will be, if he is indeed fired, who knows? I have no idea who does what in this FO
  6. $20/mo is the price for MLB.TV, single team. $22/mo for all teams. It won't be cheaper than that. Of course, that's if the Twins actually allow streaming. You and Majorleagueready should maybe brush up before commenting.
  7. It's always about salaries. The top 6 team payrolls in 2024 are in the postseason. There's a reason the Yankees miss the playoffs once every few decades and the Dodgers own the NLW. And it ain't their minor league systems. Exceptions prove the rule.
  8. Well, we don't actually know, since the Twins marketing staff is so inept.
  9. Nobody has a continual pipeline of top talent. Nobody. However, everyone has a continual pipeline of "prospects" that can, and mostly should be used to acquire proven MLB talent. You'd end up regretting maybe 1 in 10 of those deals, maybe less. Because maybe 1 in 10 of those shiny prospects ever amounts to more than the guy they were traded for. They're initially cheaper, which is the real reason they're hoarded.
  10. May be time for some "right sizing" of the overhead.
  11. I wish I'd written that.
  12. The current format is really, really good. Nothing wrong with a best of 3 for the 3rd-6th best records in each league. Two best records are still in it in both leagues. MLB has done well with it's inevitable playoff expansion format.
  13. I guessing those in the game threads would have called BS on the marketing staff if they claimed "2nd best record in the AL in July." I'll cut you some slack since you've told us you didn't pay much attention with the cable TV fiasco.
  14. ? The Twins were 12-11 in July, good for 7th best in the AL (13th in MLB.) They did go 6-5 at TF in July. Both the Tigers and Royals had better July records than the Twins. BTW, the Twins averaged over 29,000 fans per game in July, by my quick, back of the napkin math. They drew over 320,000. I'm guessing you weren't among those of us who actually made it there, since you're obviously unaware of what actually took place.
  15. What's wrong is thinking FIP is a worthwhile measure of performance.
  16. Exactly. And For $120? Or for .75 cents a game?
  17. Interesting. However, irrelevant regarding the Twins. The DSG contract with the Twins was only for one season, through 2024. They weren't under contract with the Twins going forward. Although, I still wouldn't rule out further Twins contracts with DSG. If there were other good options, I think they'd have been exercised this season.
  18. Concur. Let's not hire another Popkins, but with a different name
  19. Not to mention I'd rather they focus on finding players that weren't DFA'd 3 times last season.
  20. The complete disregard for opponents' running game is an organizational philosophy. They've said so. They prioritize the hitter. Pay attention to the hitter. Don't use a slide step. Not one pitch out, ever. Catchers on one knee even with runners on. Position fielders for the hitter, even if it takes them away from holding runners or taking a throw, particularly at 3rd. Rightly or wrongly, as an organization, they don't believe controlling the running game is important.
  21. I like this quote from Posey: "Today’s game is so much about meshing what your eyes see and instincts are with what the data is telling you.” Yes! You don't have to remove Matthews just because Durhan is coming up for the third time. You don't have to PH Manny Margot simply because 150 years of baseball history says LH hitters don't hit LH pitching as well as RH hitters do.
  22. General statement: Holy **** is that org chart bloated. Also, it's impossible to tell how many actual baseball analysts there are.
  23. Maybe they need look at their hiring process. They brought a "young and inexperienced" hitting coach to the big leagues out of independent ball? And now they're keeping him on, after failing, by demoting him?
  24. ? If the organization has determined Shoman isn't doing a good job, why would they retain him and send him to the minors? Wouldn't that have an even worse impact?
