  1. Well, the good ol' Twins are back.
  2. Where's the calibration knob on la maquina? He looks a wee bit out of adjustment today.
  3. Hate to see the injury, but anything that shortens the KC pen for the second game has to help us.
  4. There are actually a ton of Red Sox fans here. Portland would have been named Boston but for a lost coin toss (to an immigrant from Portland, ME). There are a lot of New Englanders here. Plus, my son and son-out-of-law (not married yet) are both Red Sox fans, which makes me want to beat them even more.
  5. I totally agree. Red Sox fans are among the most sanctimonious around. They think that everyone should love their team just because they are only the second most hate-able team in MLB.
  6. But if there was a fire at the back of the stands, wouldn't you need someplace in the front to exit?
  7. If they have to have a ladder, hitters should be "rung up" if they hit it.
  8. Charles Krauthammer is not my favorite columnist, but this from tomorrow's Washington Post seems especially a propos tonight: "In that spirit, but without the cash, I offer the Krauthammer Conjecture: In sports, the pleasure of winning is less than the pain of losing. By any Benthamite pleasure/pain calculation, the sum is less than zero. A net negative of suffering. Which makes you wonder why anybody plays at all." https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/why-do-they-even-play-the-game/2017/06/29/ef535938-5c2c-11e7-a9f6-7c3296387341_story.html?hpid=hp_no-name_opinion-card-c%3Ahomepage%2Fstory&utm_term=.a86b0ee312ea
  9. ESPN's focus is now on the E (entertainment) more than the S.
  10. I have to assume that the ladder is a safety escape for the people up in the nose-bleed seats. So you couldn't take it down. Haven't seen one game at Fenway (Scott Baker lost despite good performance and a lovely triple from Nick Punto), I'm not at all impressed. It could be (and probably was) a nice 25,000 seat stadium, but making it seat more means half the crowd is in 60 rows of bad seats behind the rightfield wall. Plus you have obstructed views due to the poles in the good seats. It's historic, but, really, not a good baseball stadium IMHO.
  11. That too, but the leftfield wall here is kind of like playing ping-pong in a narrow room where the ground rule is you can play it off the wall. Fun, maybe, but not really the true game. And then you put a ladder on it. Kind of like mini-golf course.
  12. Need Sano to lay one down for the team here???
  13. The emergence of Polanco and the growing promise of Mejia makes the Nunez trade look pretty good. Trade a proven veteran who is redundant due to a rising star (with other rising stars behind him in this case) for someone young who might become useful. It kind of reminds me of another trade with the Giants that turned out pretty well for the Twins. Come to think of it, maybe we should only trade with the Giants (and never with the Nationals).
  14. Funny how the timetable differs for drafted players vs. international signees. I feel like we have been hearing about Javier forever, and it's really wonderful to see his name finally start to appear in the game reports. On the other side, Lewis has been a Twin for two weeks and here he is already!
  15. Ouch. Could have used something good there.
  16. Yes. Jack Morris's comment suggests he would have stomped him! I believe it.
  17. MisterRogers seems to be effective in this neighborhood.
  18. Somehow, that doesn't bother me!
  19. I like it. Kind of like Big Bird.
  20. Methinks a couple more runs would be very useful tonight. I'm not sure I trust Señor Mejía and his successors to hold a two-run lead.
  21. We need a nickname for Adelberto. I vote for Bert, given that the other Bert's full name is Rik Aalbert.
