  1. Well that's good. Between the uptick in K's and continued chances for ground ball double plays he can probably survive a somewhat higher WHIP.
  2. Yes, I noticed this service time tidbit too when he first got sent on his rehab. But then I started thinking -- you'd be probably be hit with a grievance from the union if you started playing games and jacking around with this too much.
  3. Haven't checked the play-by-play in the boxscores on Stewart lately. But with the increased K's is he still the ground ball machine that he has been in the past?
  4. Bechtold, Miranda and Blankenhorn are probably all in the mix for best 3B prospect. It's also not out of the question that any or all of them could move off the hot corner at some point. They all have played some 2B already.
  5. Believe Mejia would start on Saturday with normal rest. Berrios toes the rubber on Friday.
  6. Thinking it's Cave, and not Buxton, that is recalled before Tuesday. Facing three right-handed pitchers in the Sox series so that's probably why they swapped out LaMarre. I agree. Would rather see Buck stay in Rochester and work on his mechanics and pitch recognition for at least a little while.
  7. Exactly! It's not often you can have a pitcher throw seven innings of shutout ball and not get minor league pitcher of the day. Or have a player collect three hits and six RBI and not get minor league hitter of the day. Solid depth to the top-notch performances today.
  8. Questions on a few players (assuming they are all still with the organization): Pitchers - Matt Jones, Landon Leach, Tyler Benninghoff. Could any of these surface in E-Town? Position players: Catcher Janigson Villalobos Infielders: Emmanuel Morel, Kolton Kendrick, Victor Tademo Any thoughts?
  9. Anyone have have names - left to right - of the six Miracle players in the FSL All-Star game photo above? Seth maybe?
  10. Yep, and even Joey Gallo to some degree. Home run or bust. Could add Yoan Moncada of the White Sox. Was the #1 prospect in baseball.
  11. Was thinking this the past couple days too.... Acuna, Albies, Soto. Probably Vlad Jr. too if he didn't get hurt. Impact players immediately. Then we have Buxton and Sano trying to find their way four years into it.
  12. It's Fort Myers for Sano... I see the decision as more about treadmills and the state-of-the-art nutrition center than about baseball.
  13. In Fort Myers he'd have access to Miracle Hitting Coach Steve Singleton and Minor League Hitting Coordinator Rick Eckstein.
  14. Good to see the bats of Cabbage, Bechtold and Miranda start to heat up for the Kernels. They will need all the production they can get what with Kirilloff and Lewis heading to southern climes here soon.
  15. Bechtold had a really good season last year at Elizabethton so I too had high hopes for him out of the gate this year. Started slow but now is picking it up in June. Hopefully he can continue to hit because he's a great 3B with a rocket arm.
  16. Well there goes my theory on Buck out of the gate in April! Although, like you said, it could have been really warm back then.
  17. Excellent article, Steve! Good to see Jose start to crank it up. Speaking of slow starts in cold weather - do you recall how Byron Buxton hit in Cedar Rapids at the start of the season? I've always thought the weather was a part of Buck's slow starts in the majors...he's not really a cold weather player it seems. BTW, another Kernel starting to heat up....3B Andrew Bechtold. April and May slash line for Andrew: .172/.259/.200 (.459) w/ 10.5 BB% 32.1 K% 37 wRC+ June slash: .357/.438/.464 (.902) w/ 12.5 BB% 18.8 K% 158 wRC+
  18. Are the Twins waiting till Alan Busenitz has an ERA of negative infinity before they call him back up?
  19. With a guy like Keirsey it's gotta be all about spin rate, right? Just in case he needs to take the mound late in a blowout game and mop up.
  20. Sounds like the big high school RHP out of Massachusetts, Mike Vasil, is opting out of the draft and honoring his commitment to U of Virginia. Think Andrew had him ranked at #27.
  21. Yeah, the first thing that comes to mind is that he's frustrated and is questioning whether he wants to keep pitching anymore. Hopefully that's not the case. Nothing that a solid outing his next time out couldn't cure.
  22. Long relief... It Hughes to be a job he tried to Phil. But not anymore.
  23. Agree that you'd like to see a punch out or two to help yourself in that situation. SO/9 is down this this year for some reason. Not sure if the injuries he's had are taking a toll.
