  1. IMHO: I don't think this is remotely over. More likely, roster moves will continue throughout the season. Honestly, I like Park over Vargas. Far more athletic, which I understand doesn't mean much when comparing those two. I would have let Vargas go to one of the reported "interested" team and keep Park. Because of injury, we really don't know what he can do. Except for some magnificent Home Runs. Pitching: in my fantasy world, both Berrios and Duffey are in the MLB bullpen to gain experience against MLB hitters. Break them in slowly with eye towards Starter promotion. "For better or worse, the team is now firmly committed to Sano at third base, his natural position." This always makes me laugh! I'll give you this: in a SSS, he's better there than RF.
  2. If they can get a few more mph on Gonsalves fastball, he could be something special. It just won't happen overnight.
  3. As long as the statue isn't done by the guy who did the Mary Tyler Moore statue. Hideous. http://www.marytylermoore.org/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/Mary_Tyler_Moore_photo_5.jpg http://assets.atlasobscura.com/media/W1siZiIsInVwbG9hZHMvcGxhY2VfaW1hZ2VzLzZkOGJhZjA3NWQ5Yjc2NDI3Ml83NTc1ODQxOTc2X2YwMWY0YWQwZmFfay5qcGciXSxbInAiLCJ0aHVtYiIsIngzOTA-Il0sWyJwIiwiY29udmVydCIsIi1xdWFsaXR5IDkxIC1hdXRvLW9yaWVudCJdXQ/7575841976_f01f4ad0fa_k.jpg
  4. This explains an awful lot about Bautista. He's a thinking man's hitter. I'd make a bet that Miguel Cabrera does the same. Both make it seem really easy. So, question: How, when, why do MLB teams start loading up prospects on this type of information? The top one I think of is Buxton. How long do you wait on a players natural physical abilities before introducing them to metrics? On the reverse side, same questions for the pitchers. If I were to guess, I'd think at least some organizations are starting an intro to advanced stats at the MiLB level.
  5. still waiting for..... http://www.accelerator3359.com/Wrestling/pictures/vonraschke.jpg
  6. I do have my moments. And that was probably it for 2014
  7. Hughes' career had already fallen into something of a pattern: record number of innings, injury, bullpen time and back as a starter. The Twins were incredibly stupid for allowing Hughes to pitch 209 innings just to get 6 stinking wins. If he recovers from the surgery, he'll be in the bullpen.
  8. Even tho he's been an average .267 hitter over the past 3 years, his lifetime BA is .307. I think the HOF voters will remember him as an elite catcher for a decade. And they also won't forget the concussion and blurred vision after 2013.
  9. There was an article in the Strib that had the boys saying that there would probably be more activity later this month. Also, Jim was saying: “They never said they were going to make splashy moves. There was no expectation or instruction to make splashy moves just for the sake of change,” Twins owner Jim Pohlad said. “It’s more important to evaluate how to make the team more consistently competitive over the long haul, and I’m confident that’s what they’re trying to do.” http://www.startribune.com/twins-new-bosses-derek-falvey-thad-levine-take-the-guarded-route/410597805/
  10. Turning around a team that has a few could be's, some wanna be's and some never will's ain't gonna happen overnight.
  11. That's kinda the thing with Calhoun, isn't it? If he has the arm for 3rd, then I'd be all-in. Just read in the Pleskoff Scouting report @Knuckleball on Calhoun: he played 3rd in college, but has limited arm strength. Otherwise, I think the Twins have plenty of DH types. Overall, I think I'd like to see Willie's stats after a 2nd AA season. And I can see why the Twins wouldn't backoff from Bellinger. From different websites, DeLeon is somewhere between a #2-3 to #3-4 starter. Any report with a 3 in it, yeah I'd want more, too.
  12. I think people should remember that this new management team got a late start because of the playoffs. During the Winter Meetings, Falvey and Levine were just starting to interview current off-field staff. And they needed to add/change that staff to modernize baseball operations.
  13. Rosario was called up because the other possibilities [Arcia, Vargas and Sano] participated in a Home Run contest during Spring Training, instead of standard BP drills. Molitor doesn't like that kinda stuff...
  14. Santiago: Well, he has the continuing ability to remain left handed on his side. Kintzler: The closer until further notice. Bank on it. Gibson: I just haven't seen enough good things about him to even keep him around. Oh, yeah. Innings eater.... Pressly: The longest delivery I've ever seen. And this guy could be a closer? Only if they use him like the Twins did with Perkins: rarely let him get into a game with a runner on base.
  15. SOP. Twins management is kicking the tires on Bautista and probably many other available players. Having said that, I'd probably take a shot with Bautista. Obviously, he wants to rebuild his reputation. Seriously: Does the sum-total of Miguel Sano, Joe Mauer, Kennys Vargas and Byung-Ho Park come close to equaling Jose Bautista??
  16. I Googled "percent of left handed pitchers in mlb 2016". Left-handed pitchers accounted for about 28 percent of all plate appearances since 2010. So, Vargas would be playing only 28% of the time? IMO, I think I would have taken one of those alleged trade offers for Vargas. Or maybe the Dodger would take him? LOL
  17. My Kingdom for "at least passable" players.
  18. Random thoughts: Escobar had a groin injury in May and then a hamstring injury in July that lingered a bit. In that time, Eduardo Nunez took over and went on to hit like a madman. Rosario: Ahem, "The Throw." Yeah..... http://www.kansascity.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/for-petes-sake/article96623782.html Yeah. But there is this: http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/73955164/v1030918183/houmin-rosario-throws-995-mph-to-nab-bregman Both deserve another shot. That, and I really don't think Polanco is a good shortstop. Second is his best position and not a bad fill-in at 3rd. Love his bat. Aybar would be a good add. Kinzler did very well as a closer until overuse caught up with him. At worse, I'd like to see a MiLB pitcher step up as a co-closer. Shopping for a veteran? If not Neftali Feliz, how about Sergio Romo? Rest of bullpen: I wouldn't change a thing. Need to see those young arms develop further. Pretty sure Hughes will be in the pen. Starter: If Berrios and another MiLBer aren't in the rotation, I'd sure like to hear Falvey and Levine have in mind. May needs to be in the rotation, so does Ervin, for different reasons. Last spot goes to Santiago. Hughes injury history is 1 great season, injury from over-use and into the bullpen, if I remember correctly. The Twins adding onto his innings for stinking win #16 was a bad move. OF is set. Need a 4th: anyone with solid+ defense, speed and some OPS. Starting catcher is set. Backup? Stop whining about Mauer.
  19. I'd say the holdup is the Twins have a MLB-proven player to offer for a position of need for the Buyer. And the Buyer is offering unproven players at the MLB level. I'd be as hesitant as Falvey.
  20. Heed the Klingenbeck warning on any trade with the Dodgers.....
  21. Overall, I'd say any weakness on the part of this bullpen was due to overuse. A starting staff that doesn't explode before the 5th inning would be very helpful.
