  1. Don't teams typically start a new season with extra SP's? The theory being, SP's aren't stretched out enough yet. My theory is: if you have a job that starts at a specific date, you should already be prepared for that job, that time, that date. Silly me.....
  2. "Putting Miguel Sano in the outfield was an unmitigated disaster." Well, let's put things in context here. Trevor Plouffe was the starter at 3rd and there was Mauer and Park. The OF at the start of the season? Logan Schafer, Danny Mastroiani, Oswaldo Arcia and Danny Santana. I think there was another guy in there that I can't remember. My "eyeball facts" say that he was improving in RF on a pretty regular basis. In the end, Sano really really has the arm for RF. But his girth would have eventually caused a switch anyway. Unmitigated disaster? No. It was an effort to get his bat into a pretty crappy lineup. We should be over that 38 game experiment by now.... Back to the story: Byron Buxton, Max Kepler, and Eddie Rosario: Can we go ahead and say "Elite outfield defense"? Jorge Polanco: Still some missteps, but the footwork looks significantly better and his release quicker. Jason Castro: Suzuki's ranking was, where, again? Infield: I think things will change a lot this year. As Mauer moves closer to the end of his contract, I would think we'd see less of him on the field. I also think some MLB team will really be in need of a guy like Dozier for a playoff push.
  3. Suzuki was a warrior. No matter how beat-up he got, he still played. Especially when the Twins backup catcher were, umm, ya know.
  4. Buxton: I was kinda hoping the end of last season was showing us the Buxton finally got it. Well, whatever the "it" was seems to have disappeared. We've seen this before. Time to roll with it like Boston did with Xander Bogaerts and Jackie Bradley Jr. and see where Buxton goes. His defense is far too good to give up on.
  5. And a concerted off season plan to get in better shape AND work on better AB's. We've already seen a couple opposite field hits this year.
  6. Anyone hear of a strategy for Berrios? I'm curious to hear what management want's him to work on to be more successful against MLB'ers.
  7. Kinda hard for me to really judge Greene. The video posted here, it looks like he's over throwing a lot and losing his balance. I've also watched others where Greene looks like his delivery is really under control: same windup, rotation, arm slot and landing point. Guess that means he's 17 ;-)
  8. Like I posted in another thread, I don't understand what there is to gain by moving Buxton around in the lineup. Taking away 1, may 2 AB's per game? Reducing pressure by 20-25% ? Is it equally possible that moving him down in the order going to have the reverse affect? He's got to learn how to handle pressure. Buxton's atrocious start at the plate hasn't hurt the Twins is 4 games, all wins. Let him work it out with Rowson.
  9. For lack of a 40 man roster spot, Park would have been on this team. No question. I have no interest in keeping Vargas. Moving forward, the Twins shouldn't be considering 1-dimensional players like Vargas. Dozier and E. Santana need to be traded for the obvious reasons: 1. they have skills 2. they will command larger paydays in their declining years 3. there aren't really ready replacements for Santana right now, but there is for Dozier. "That makes no mention of Kyle Gibson". And there shouldn't be. This past start is pretty much what we've seen of Gibson: good start and then he starts collapsing around the 5th inning. Time to move him, if possible. I don't see Falvey resigning Mauer. Just doesn't make any sense. Well, that and no emotional attachment. If the other young position player start making better AB's, there's definitely a place for a defense-first player like Vielma. But I'd definitely keep an eye on NIck Gordon.
  10. Oh, and I like the lineup nuevo configuration. Dozier is only a leadoff hitter once a game. Having speedy player bunched at the bottom of the order is a great idea. A few more walks would be great. Baby steps. So is the new usage of RP's: don't drain 1-2 guys in one game and have them not available in the next series. Run 'em out for 1 inning or less and keep them fresh.
  11. Buxton just needs to calm down. Last year, the entire team needed to calm down and never did. When Buxton came to the plate with men on, you could practically see it in his eye's. Rowson seems to be a great choice for working with young hitters. Sano: an opposite field single?? Who woulda thunk it last year? Like I've said about Castro in other posts: I like the way he moves around the plate.
  12. TWINS WIN!!! http://www.greatergadsden.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/fireworks21.jpg
  13. So, how much furniture do you have? Need to schedule warmup time....
  14. Grossman and Mauer BURN up the base paths!!
  15. Sigh, was hoping for more from Buxton in that AB...
