  1. Yeah you're right, I looked at that wrong earlier. Point remains, Berrios should not be on the opening day roster.
  2. I wasn't trying to offer commentary on Nolasco, strictly was saying its absurd to say if you have a high BABIP against you must suck
  3. With 2 off days, Monday the 18th would be the 1st time the Twins need a 5th start, I believe.
  4. Chris Sale, Jose Quintana, Tyson Ross, Lance Lynn, and Carlos Martinez were all top 10 in the league in highest BABIP against... They must suck, right?
  5. Ummmm, yes. 30% of all balls hit into play end up with a batter on base. Actually maybe more if you include errors (which also lead to a man on base) http://www.sportingcharts.com/mlb/stats/team-batting-average-of-balls-in-play-babip/2015/
  6. I'll drop it as well... but I gotta get one last point in. The Twins goal is to make the playoffs, which is why it might make less since to them than a team like Atlanta, to hold out hope he turns things around. If he doesn't he turn things around, he may cost them games, and in turn cost them a playoff spot. Atlanta (just an example), does not expect to be a contender
  7. You are putting a lot of words in my mouth, which doesn't really help any rational discussion. I never said my Braves scenario had any bit of likeliness attached to it. I threw a hypothetical on a message board out there. I also never "dismissed the possibility" that the Twins would end up paying Nolasco his full $12 million this year. I said what I would do/ try to do. I'm not the GM... I think it is possible they could trade him by picking up a large chunk of the salary, that is all.
  8. Bud Norris?? I'll take any perceived upside from Nolasco over Norris, however small both may be. Newcombe and Blair likely won't start the season in the Majors though... Just trying to think outside the box, I could potentially see a team like the Braves taking a gamble for a small amount of money on something like that.
  9. Yup, I get what you meant now... I think I misunderstood the 1st post. Entire = entire mlb draft.. I thought entire = Entire Twins Draft Class was thought of as very poor.
  10. Okkk, maybe I misunderstood the original post. I thought he was saying industry experts were saying the TWINS entire draft class was thought of as very weak, post 2012 draft. Now that you say that, I get he was referencing the 2012 draft in general, not the Twins
  11. What does Edwin Jackson have to do with this? They aren't the same player, Braves hadn't gone to a full out rebuild by then, anyways. I'm not following your 2nd paragraph? Because spending $8 million now is better than spending $12 million in a month or two, and having him pitch terribly doesn't exactly help the team win games? I never said it was "likely", so I'm not sure where you got that from. I said its an outside the box idea, a gamble by a team like the Braves.
  12. I agree with you, none of us are in the clubhouse, and have no idea. That is the perception he gives off, couple some isolated incidents like that with his recent agent comments, and I don't see a happy ending to this.
  13. Not sure I understand? I know I didn't list all 40 some players drafted. My point was no one in the "industry" called the ENTIRE draft class one of the worst in recent memory. Drafting 2nd and getting the top player kinda takes care of any of that talk...
  14. I recall a tweet he sent after the 2014 season where he said he wished he was still in LA (so do we Ricky, so do we)... started off 2015 by booing back at the fans during Opening Day lineup introductions...
  15. Forget a real contender for now... If you are GM of a team like the Atlanta Braves - clearly in a rebuild, have shown a knack recently for shrewd trades (mainly by just picking on Dave Stewart)... would you trade for Nolasco if the Twins picked up all but $8 million over the 2 years, and put him in your rotation? He pitches terribly or gets hurt, you are out $8 million. BUT, if he is finally healthy, gets some guys out in the NL... you might have a pretty damn good deadline trade piece. I think I would do that if I were in their shoes.
  16. Because they have plenty of mop-up options, ones that aren't going to cause a scene about not being in the rotation. I'm not big on "clubhouse chemistry" being a real thing, but Nolasco seems like a problem, he doesn't want to be here... and frankly I think removing him is addition by subtraction.
  17. I literally cannot find one place that said the Twins 2012 draft was "one of the weakest in recent memory". They drafted the consensus best player in the draft, most liked Berrios, who was just a bit of an unknown... and they went heavy on college relievers, but good ones.
  18. In no way am I implying other teams are going to jump at this. I am simply saying if I were the Twins that is what I would be trying for. Heck, the Twins may even have to pick up $18 of the $25. If he has a good, healthy spring... another team taking him is at least a possibility, that's all.
  19. Yup, that's what I would want as an opposing GM as well, and if I was the Twins I would do it. I'm saving $13 million in that scenario and can give the roster spot to a better pitcher.
  20. I think that's the starting point... someone mentioned the Dodgers earlier. They may not want him in the rotation next year, but might have a need right now... If the Twins picked up say $6 million this year, $8 million next year I could see it get done.
  21. You kind of just made my point for me. They should not pay a long reliever $12 million, if they can get someone to take him by picking up half the salary, that would absolutely be better "money management"
  22. I am purely speculating, but I don't believe Nolasco will be in the rotation. I think Milone and Duffey have the upper hand, and obviously Berrios will be knocking on the door. He is not likely to be worth $12 million a year as a reliever, and if you can get any relief on the $24 million he is owed, they should do it.
  23. You are right, but I would argue his pouting in March factored into the decision to remove May from the rotation in July, likely costing the Twins a playoff spot.
  24. Paying $5 million for him not to pitch for the Twins > Paying $12 million for him to be a non effective reliever, on the DL, and whining for a trade. I would say only having to pay $5 million of a $12 million sunk cost is pretty good money management.
  25. They are allowed to pick up some of the salary.... If they have no intentions on him in the rotation (It certainly seems as of now Milone + Duffey have upper hand)... you really think they would like to keep a $12million/year reliever around? Or would they just pick up at least half of the contract and give him away.
