  1. Alex Meyer made 8 disastrous starts all last season, I'm all for moving him back to the rotation and hoping something with his control/ command clicks, but if there is an injury in the rotation at any point in the 1st 3 months he might be the 9th or 10th option. It's not only Berrios, it's the Duffey/Nolasco loser, and probably other Rochester arms.
  2. I see zero reason to believe Alex Meyer would be even remotely an option for the Twins Rotation at any point in the first half of the season, maybe all season. He only started 8 games all last year, he's got a long ways to go to get back into that mix. Not sure how you deducted he would be ahead of Berrios?
  3. I think you answered your own question with the 3 names at the end of your paragraph. Of course none of them should or would prevent Berrios from getting a crack early this season.
  4. Yeah this makes no sense. The starting rotation is not full with pitchers better than him, which is kinda the point. Part of any business? So a company should move their best salesman to the IT department because they have enough salesman?
  5. To be fair, part of the reason he has shown it for 1 year is it was the first time he was fully healthy. I have no problem with him getting a month or two in AAA. Even if they had traded Plouffe, I wouldn't have handed Kepler the opening day start for sure, it's possible they would've needed to use an Arcia out there for a month. The lineup is extremely right handed, and I frankly don't think Plouffe provides more offensively than an Arcia (April/May)/Kepler combo could have. `Then of course in this scenario, you aren't messing with your 1st or 2nd most important asset by having him learn a new position in March.
  6. If winning the most games in 2016 was the teams top priority, they would not have ignored the bullpen all offseason. Right or wrong, it clearly is not the top priority
  7. There's certain "takes" that are so off base its better ignoring. No one was surprised by the news this Spring, but I think with Duffey looking so bad it's reasonable to bring up again why was May not an option.
  8. http://m.mlb.com/cutfour/2015/10/09/153905934/kyle-schwarber-hits-nlds-bunt-single "Painfully slow"? And while Schwarber's speed may seem surprising with his large, Hulk-like body, Statcast™ estimated the Cub at 20.07 mph. For those wondering, that's .03 mph faster than Rougned Odor, who ran the Blue Jays ragged earlier in the day.
  9. Kyle Schwarber is also 6' tall, not pushing 6'5" 265-275. Whether that is going to make a huge difference or not remains to be seen, but Sano's size is absolutely part of the equation you cannot just ignore
  10. To be fair, if we're simply talking about K's as you said, I'm not sure why Perkins is part of the conversation. His K rate was higher in August, September, October during his struggles.
  11. Yes, I did not notice he was talking K's specifically, my fault. But my overall point remains what Mike said. To assume the bullpen is going to be better because Jepsen and May will be there all year, and Perkins might not be a complete disaster in the 2nd half is faulty... because while Perkins might not tank as hard as last year, he also might not be as good as he was in the 1st half. And Jepsen certainly cannot be expected to have his 2nd half numbers spread over an entire year
  12. Kepler is also a high obp, left handed hitter that would fit in the upper half of this lineup so well. I'm not sold on Rosario being the long-term LFer, so it may work itself out, but I can't get over the fact that I like the defense AND offense of Sano (3b)/Kepler (rf) more than the current lineup of Pl;ouffe (3b)/ Sano (rf)
  13. His walk rate was also 1.2/ 9 lower than his career average, BABIP was .200 in August, .240 in Sept/Oct, career of .307... Do you think an ERA of 1.61 and an ERA+ of 261 is a reasonable expectation this year?
  14. There is 0 correlation between "MiLB starter prospects" and "Trevor May's long term best spot". They could 5 high end prospects at AA knocking on the door, and Trevor May still holds more value as a good 200 inning starter than he does as a reliever. That value may be to another team, but it does not change the fact they are devaluing their own asset.
  15. Except the player who is getting squeezed out, at least for now, is Max Kepler.. who is far from a "stopgap"
  16. "General manager Terry Ryan is quick to point out that his team's last-place ranking is “a little deceiving” since they received only partial seasons from May and Kevin Jepsen, and Glen Perkins was not himself after the All-Star break." Ahh, pointing out Perkins terrible 2nd half, but failing to mention the 28 innings they did get from Jepsen were farrrr better than can be expected of him this season.
  17. That list is an absolute joke, the 5 minutes I spent scrolling through it was such a waste of time.
  18. The fact that you can count on 1 hand anyone his size playing OF full time on one hand, is an issue. You also never mentioned that Trevor Plouffe has actually played OF before. Either way, this argument has been done numerous times and I see no need to rehash it. That being said, I had a big problem with "easy choice".. because that is simply not true.
  19. You left out the part where Sano is somewhere around 6'4" - 6'5" and 265-275 pounds... and the 1st or 2nd most important asset the Twins have
  20. Haha I was waiting for a couple more to come out to give Seth the option of choosing over/ under on 1,000 runs scored for the Twins.
  21. Pinch hitting for Buxton dramatically decreases your OF defense, and with Sano standing next to him out there, that matters quite a bit. I would hope the only pinch hit for Buxton situations are early in the season, trailing by a run or two, in the bottom of the 9th. I seem to remember a couple of times where Sano was pinch run for in tie games, only to see his spot in the lineup come up again in extra innings...
  22. I'm hopeful the OBP will bounceback, not as confident that the Home run numbers are going to stay that high. .250/.320/.420 Somewhere around 20 home runs, give or take a couple in either direction.
  23. Sure, the cockiness and confidence of athletes I'm sure it what part of makes them great. I'm not so sure that's what those quotes were though... those screamed "delusional" Since you used the golf analogy, I find it hard to believe Jordan Spieth would shoot; 68, 67, 76, 80 in a 4 day tournament, and then say "I don't know what you guys are talking about when you say I struggled on the weekend, I hit most fairways on Saturday and Sunday, that's my job"
  24. Honestly shocking quotes. I mean this quote isn't even remotely true. After the All Star break in 69 games, he scored 34 runs, 0.49 runs per game. Before the break, 88 games, 67 runs, 0.76 runs per game. .210/.280/.359 “I hear that all the time and I don’t really know why people always make a big deal out of the last couple months,” Dozier says. “I didn’t hit as many home runs, but I actually scored the same amount of runs, which is what I intend to do.”
