  1. Psst: There's no DH in the National League
  2. Again, there is plenty of dead weight on the back-end of the 40 man roster. DFA'ing Casey Fien, Pat Dean, etc is in no sense of the word an "extreme" move. I would wager any amount of money that Berrios does not get called up behind Duffy, Dean and Meyer. Frankly I'd be surprised if he was behind Duffy AND Meyer (Dean is not a logical candidate in any way)
  3. Trading for Swihart would be awesome... it would take a hell of a lot more than Ervin Santana though
  4. One quick nitpick. You think Tommy Milone puts more fans in the seats than Alex Meyer or Jose Berrios? Also, why would you assume they would/ might struggle? These aren't hitters being rushed from AA, they are pitchers with lots of succesful innings at AAA
  5. The babip was high, I see that in 2015. The issue has always been his control, and I would say the obvious number that jumps out is a high 4.4 bb/9 jumps to 5.4 bb/9... that should be going the other way... Berrios has walked some guys this year... still has only 22 in his 92.2 AAA innings. 2 less than Meyer had in his 39 (starter) innings last year. If Meyer gets called up to replace Milone I would be ecstatic... I just think Berrios should be ahead in the pecking order (Unless of course neither are called up until June, because the Twins can't manage a roster, and Meyer is still cruising along at that point)
  6. That's not really a valid comparison at all. He only made 8 starts in AAA in 2015, most of that was in relief. I'm not trying to bash Meyer at all, but he walked 24 in 39 innings as a starter. He was a disaster as a starter last year. And yeah, I know he was the higher ranked prospect. I said he is still the higher upside guy. But if he can't throw strikes for 6+ innings it doesn't matter how good his stuff is. His 3 starts have been very encouraging. Personally I would like to see another month. I don't know if Berrios will be a #2, 3, 4 in the Majors over the long run, but I do think he's better than Tommy Milone today.
  7. Extreme move = promoting a top pitching prospect who has been dominant in 15 starts in AAA? Not sure I understand that one...
  8. I think people are putting way too much thought into the Berrios 40 man "issue". There is plenty of dead weight to cut loose. He will get the call because he has the least amount to still prove at AAA - Meyer may have the higher ceiling, but its fair to say he needs more starts after last seasons debacle.
  9. I'm not going to go point for point, but just wanted to say I disagree with every single thing you wrote, and hope you aren't Terry Ryan in disguise posting on this board
  10. This was my thought as well, which is why I said Berrios should be on the plane now. A spot will open up for Meyer soon enough.
  11. He's given up 4 home runs in 15 innings which probably accounts for the higher era without a super high whip. I think Milone is worth keeping, just not in the rotation, I'd send O'Rourke down and move Milone into the long relief role.
  12. He should be on the plane with Terry Ryan back to Minneapolis. He can take Milone's next start. I still have Berrios ahead of Meyer in the call-up race
  13. Lights out? I guess we'll see how today goes, but I would say he had one very good start, and a pretty poor one.
  14. I think you misunderstood my post. You are attempting to reason he didn't fall off until late July. I am telling you he sucked all of July, as evidenced by the monthly numbers as a whole. His obp was .282 in July, his wRC+ was 92 I only broke the month in half (pre and post all star break) to show that both numbers were bad,... he was bad the whole month. I wasn't saying he was good in the 2nd half.. I'm not sure how you got that idea from what I wrote
  15. You're thinking of Milone to their pitcher I believe... it was an awful call, caught all of the plate.. he did strike him out on the next pitch though
  16. His OBP in July '15 was .282, it was no worse in the 2nd half of that month (post all star break) than it was in the 1st half of the month. He actually hit .229 (11 for 48) July 17 - 31 with 6 walks July 1 - 12 hit .183 (9 for 49) w/ 4 walks So your numbers appear to be flawed, yes
  17. If Brian Dozier had a 92 wRC+ this year, and hit .206/.282/.433 (which he did in July '15) I'm not sure there is anyone that would be calling his season "mediocre"
  18. He had an equally horrendous OBP in July, August, September. He just hit a couple less home runs in September. OPS is not the end all be all
  19. It's interesting what players people are willing to make excuses for. There's a thread labeling Buxton a flop after ~150 plate appearances that have also been split over 2 seasons, with the majority of those PA coming when the GM himself said he "wasn't ready". Someone who had never had a AAA at bat, and missed the majority of the 2014 season. But write him off! Dozier has sucked for almost 4 months of Baseball but it doesn't matter because he must have been hurt or tired.
  20. I think there's a pretty valid reason behind it... its fairly clear he is a "one trick pony", with his dead pull power, small spot in the zone where he hits pitches, etc. Yes, the sample size is still small, even including last year, and its too early to give up on him. BUT, the thought behind pitchers just not giving him anything up and in anymore, is a valid concern. He needs to show he can adjust, and he hasn't. Even though he's a veteran, I think its more reasonable to be concerned about him, than the younger guys who are still learning.
  21. Yes
  22. I'm guessing he didn't forget Spring Training, he just knows that it doesn't count or mean anything
  23. Tonkin, I already said that. I wonder if his performance was iffy because he was always 1 bad pitch away from taking the train back to Rochester. I would have definitely given him for a real opportunity at some point over like the likes of Cotts, Boyer, Stauffer, etc. Especially considering they had a roster decision to make on him this year. Tonkin April - August last year; up and down, no role. 11 2/3 innings, 8 er Tonkin Sept/Oct: 11 2/3 innings 1 er I also probably would've given Meyer a real shot at making the bullpen better later in the season. As to your last line, again that's my point. I don't think we'll see consistent results from these guys until they are given consistent opportunity. Chicken or the egg. I know Ryan O'Rourke can get out (only) lefties, and I think that's valuable. I think Taylor Rogers may be able to get out lefties and the occasional righty, and wouldn't mind seeing him get that opportunity. I know Casey Fien stinks
  24. Round, and round and round. Yes, we are talking about bullpen only. I'm not sure what Rosario, Buxton, Sano have to do with it. Since this is going nowhere, I'll make my point one more time. It's hard to believe them when they say the bullpen is going to improve because they have talented young guys, when they have proven they are unwilling to trust young guys.
