  1. We will have to disagree I guess. That is Ryan's job, I'm firmly in the camp that Ryan never should've been brought back in 2012, and really hope this is is last year here... but I still want him making personnel decisions before I want Jim Pohlad making them
  2. He used 2011 as an example, and yeah those picks 30-55 are longer shots... but I think the last 10+ years has shown this team has drafted pretty poorly. I don't get the Kohl Stewart shot though, he's a top 100 prospect and was just drafted 3 years ago
  3. I think the point was the GM told him that money should be spent on those players. The counter would be, well the Pohlad's are the ones who choose to employ this GM
  4. Even if Ortiz spoke glowingly about MN at every opportunity, which obviously he doesn't, I would have a bit of an issue honoring a player that symbolizes such an epic failure in player evaluation, by the same regime that is still in place, during an 18-40 season. He's not a Twin, hasn't been for almost 15 years... let's move on, he obviously has.
  5. I agree. Reusse's level of confidence in this being the end for Terry Ryan is playing into why I am so sure the change will happen. He is definitely plugged in over there. I'm really excited for the latest No Shame / Embarrassing move coming this Friday, when the Twins honor a player that rips them and the MN fans anytime someone sticks a microphone in his face.
  6. Gotcha, I thought you were referencing saving money to sign Groome in Round 1
  7. Mobley, Hamilton's 12th grade English teacher, will never forget the day that Hamilton cut class. It was during his senior year and Mobley couldn't ever remember Hamilton cutting class before. In fact, he was paranoid about getting into trouble. Hamilton was Yessir and No, ma'am. He didn't smoke or drink alcohol. He was the kid who would give his grandmother a peck on the cheek before every game. The kid who chose not to go to his senior prom because it might put him in a compromising situation. But this day was different. "One afternoon a female student of mine was having a personal need emergency," Mobley begins. "There was an item that a woman would need and she didn't have it and couldn't get it. It was very obvious that she needed to go home and change clothes, but for some reason she could not reach her family. Then she ran into Josh. As soon as Josh saw her, he didn't hesitate. He drove her home. He cut two classes and that was not a good thing for Josh to be doing. When he got back to school, he was called into the office and our principal Walt Sherlin asked him, 'Why did you leave school without permission to take this young lady home?' "Well," Hamilton said, "she asked me."
  8. Josh Hamilton had makeup issues pre-draft? You'll have to refresh me on those, because pretty much every team thought he was the perfect prospect. Tim Beckham pre-draft scouting report: "His makeup is a plus, as he displays an enjoyment of the game and energy on the field" - Baseball America Donovan Tate http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=852 Frankly, I can't see 1 inkling of make-up questions for any one of these guys except Matt Bush leading up to their draft. This seems like odd revisionist history
  9. 5 years may have been an exaggeration, and I'm not claiming that is Ryan's thinking. Just pointing out for all we know he has 0 plans to trade Plouffe, and he may be in their long term plans. He's not a Free Agent after the year, and there aren't a ton of examples of starting players with control left who Ryan has traded
  10. The $8 million is only for rounds 1-10, punting on every pick after round 10 wouldn't help them sign Groome. I'm guessing they'd have to go underslot in Round 2, and at least with one of the supplemental picks (not that I'm against going this route, just pointing it out)
  11. So are you suggesting wait to call him up until next ~April 20? Because that's the only way to get that extra year of control. The only service time issue right now is whether the Super 2 Deadline has passed
  12. There was a Mauer luxury (that didn't end up being one), but I still think it would've been pretty stupid to label Ramos as a "must-trade" just because his options were up. He was only 23 years old and could've easily split time with Mauer the next few seasons, before Mauer moved off Catcher (which likely would've happened with or without concussions at some point)
  13. Guaranteed? Mauer averaged 64 games started at catcher from '11-'13, then never caught again. "Guaranteeing" to give away a catcher prospect would've been pretty stupid
  14. Thank you for answering that much better than I did. This is exactly what I meant by pointing that out.
  15. I agree. I see no real benefit to trading Santana or Gibson, the other SP name lots of people around here want to deal. Those are two guys who's value to the Twins deservedly so, is quite a bit higher than value to most teams around the leauge.
  16. I pointed out all of the ways they are totally different players. The only thing I could come up with that is somewhat similar is they have played different positions in their careers. If the only basis for calling someone a "poor mans so and so" is the "so and so" is better. Than I guess we can refer to Robbie Grossman as a poor man's Mike Trout. Or Pat Dean as a poor man's Jon Lester... but we wouldn't really get any analysis from that.
  17. Right, seems like pretty much everyone here (even those that were against it this winter) has agreed that Plouffe should be traded. The thing we are ignoring, is Plouffe is still playing 3B every single day, and as far as we know, TR still sees him as the 3rd baseman for the next 5 years *shudders * They have proven to value their mediocre veterans much higher than the rest of the market does. The Mets not trading for Plouffe doesn't surprise me at all, he probably would've asked for Matz or someone. Wasn't it Willingham that baseball execs around the league said TR's asking prices were "laughable"?
  18. Agreed on Morris I would say Plouffe is the slightly better player at this point, so I think if you make that $4.8 something like $2 or $2.5 you could've made a deal. Who knows, my guess is its far more likely TR never picked up the phone. I also think a prospect like this is probably best case scenario for Plouffe
  19. Mets trade for Kelly Johnson and give up what appears to be a decent relief prospect (Akeel Morris, I know nothing about him but a career MILB 12k/9). I bet if the Twins would have called and offered to cover a couple million of Plouffe's salary they could have gotten the same return. Nice "work" TR!
  20. I'm optimistic that this team does not have something like a 55-50 run in them to finish the season with respectability and save his job. I think the owners will be facing a near fan revolt after they finish with ~58 wins and will have no choice
  21. In theory, it might not be the worst end result, but there's a good chance Terry Ryan won't even be making the 2017 picks, he's not going to punt on 2016 with a 17-40 record and most of the town calling for his job.
  22. I can't tell if this is supposed to be sarcastic or not. But OBP > Speed in the 2 hole, and wasn't Dozier the one hitting there? Grossman is not slower than him
  23. He played in college, and is a reliever who is 25.5 years old. He is the exact type of player who can and should move quickly through the ranks. Who says you can't promote a guy who hasn't demonstrated sustained success at his current level? Were the Royals not aware of that rule when they used Brandon Finnegan down the stretch and in the post season the same year they drafted him? Relief Pitchers are far different than any hitters the Twins have promoted too fast, which was the other posters point that you didn't touch on
  24. Buddy Bosher and Brandon Kintzler are in the Major League bullpen on the 25 man roster and we're worried about finding someone to "hastily DFA" or the effects of "reorganizing my pen" (A pen that has a 4.48ERA ). Oh ya and for reorganizing the 25 man, the team is 16-40
  25. It wasn't meant to cause bickering, and I'm not sure how it distorted the overall point. You want on to explain reasons for and against extending, but I got the overall point from the first line "This is what the FO needs to be doing (evaluating pros/ cons)". I was pointing out the one thing I think we can all agree the FO has been doing for the past few years, is extending players still under contract. So I'm sure they have done plenty of evaluations on it, and I hope to God they trade him or let him play out his contract
