Article: Twins Trade Kintzler To Nationals
alarp33 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I would guess Littell ranks in the Twins top 15, or close to it going into next year. Same with Watson, who seems like a really nice lottery ticket. As for "give up on this year" - the Twins traded 1 player from their All Star Break - Major League roster to get all of the pieces you mentioned - a pending Free Agent in Kintzler. If you think making the playoffs was an attainable goal, losing Kintzler (0.7 WAR) shouldn't move those odds by all that much -
Article: Twins Draft Blayne Enlow, Seven More

Correct - the MLB site I used to reference those numbers don't show signing bonuses, just whether they signed or not. So I'm not sure how many big bonuses were given in later rounds- 352 replies

Article: Twins Draft Blayne Enlow, Seven More
alarp33 replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Last year only 3 picks from the 11th round did not sign, to use that as an example. 2 high school kids, and a college catcher. Of course, its possible the highly ranked high school kids won't be drafted today in the 11th round, because teams already know they won't sign. Edit: Same for the 12th round, 3 unsigned. 2 HS, 1 College- 352 replies

Article: Twins Daily’s Instant Draft Reaction: WTF?
alarp33 replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
No, I am not "assuming" anything, I am telling you how math works. The Twins have an overall budget ($14 million), they drafted to follow that budget. You keep saying Enlow at 37 is a better deal than Enlow at 76 because the Cap is higher at 37. That is not how this works, the cap they need to worry about is for the 1st 10 rounds ($14 million), not on a pick by pick basis. Leach "agreed" to a number before his name was called at 37, Enlow "agreed" to a number at 76 before his name was called. It's how the draft works now I used $1 and $3 as examples to show you how math works, I don't know what either player has agreed to. They won't get Enlow for less at 76, they will pay him what his advisor likely told teams it would take to sign him out of his college commitment. That # was the same whether he was pick 40 in the draft or pick 100.- 209 replies

Dude, if you pay him $3 million, and you pay Leach $1 million, IT DOES NOT MATTER WHERE THEY WERE DRAFTED, 3+1 = 4. Why do you care about slot savings, you literally are arriving at the EXACT Same number. You need $4 million to sign these 2 guys (per my example earlier). Math really is not this hard....- 209 replies

alarp33 replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
They carry more risk than drafting pitchers in the 1st round? Isn't that the argument? Because I would rather trade for someone's AAA pitcher who they've developed for 3 years with IF or OF depth, than I draft only pitchers in Round 1- 352 replies

I thought we were speaking in more generalities, how you can acquire pitchers. I didn't realize it was you had to acquire one now for this season or next- 352 replies

I'm not going to quote your whole post, but your flaw is in assuming the Twins had Enlow ranked much higher than Leach. It is possible they ranked them simlar - also if all teams knew Leach would sign for $1 million, and all teams knew Enlow would only sign for $3 million, there are a lot more teams ABLE to draft and pay Leach $1 million between 37 and 76 than there are teams able to draft and pay Enlow $3 million between 37 + 76- 209 replies

Certainly possible, lots of players drop in the draft, doesn't mean they won't turn out to be All Stars. I'd say the Yankees are happy Judge dropped to 32 (I'm guessing position / height was probably a big factor there)

Article: Twins Daily’s Instant Draft Reaction: WTF?
alarp33 replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
You very clearly do not understand, or you would not possibly think spending $14 million makes you more profitable than spending $14 million. As for the front office, I believe you said the only goal is to make profits. They would have continued to have a barebones front office, not turn Terry Ryan's GM salary into a President salary and a GM salary, and dozens of other new hires if the sole goal was to turn a profit- 209 replies

Honestly what is it you do not understand about how the MLB draft works? The Twins have $14 million to spend on their picks in rounds 1-10. They will spend $14 million, whether the 1st pick receives $20 or $10 million, they will spend a total of $14 million- 209 replies

Good point, another reason you may draft Enlow lower than Leach, even if you ranked him higher. Of course the other would be Leach for $1 million may be a lot more attractive to other teams than Enlow at $3 million, even if teams ranked Enlow slightly higher- 209 replies

alarp33 replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm not following your logic in the least. This is a pretty simple concept. Lets see if you can follow this when I spell it out more specifically. Pick Number 37 allotment $1.8 million Pick Number 76 allotment $755k Total $2.55 million Example: Enlow is going to need $3 million to sign on the dotted line. Pick 37: Leach Signs for $1 million (hypothetical, no idea what he is getting) Pick 76: Enlow: Signs for $3 million (savings from Lewis, Rooker and Leach. Total spent on 2: $4 million or Pick 37: Enlow: Signs for $3 million (savings from Lewis, Rooker) Pick 76: Leach: Signs for $1 million (savings from Lewis, roooker) Total spent: $4 million. Again, tell me why it would make a difference whether Enlow was picked 76 or 37, or Leach was pick 37 or 76- 209 replies

Yes, I think hiring multiple employees, which they have done, including a President, costs significant money. Do you really think using their full draft allotment on Lewis, Rooker, Leach, Enlow, etc. in someway makes you more profitable than if you used the same full draft allotment on Greene or McKay, and others?- 209 replies

I'll just end this now. Try to be smarter. 1) You don't know that was the guy they wanted 2) They paid under slot so they could draft the 29th ranked prospect at #76 3) Again, they are paying THE EXACT SAME amount of money to draft picks

"but again it comes down to money." In literally no way does it come down to cheapness. They will spend the exact same amount of money on Lewis + the remaining picks, as they would have on McKay (Or Greene) and the remaining picks

What kool-aid? It's literally a fact that the same amount of money will be spent on their draft, as it would have if they had taken Greene like you preferred. Like it's not a debateable point or argument to even have.

Article: Twins Daily’s Instant Draft Reaction: WTF?
alarp33 replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Sorry, but no that logic is not solid. It does not matter who went 37 and who went 76. They had a total to spend on those 2 picks of around $2.6 million. It doesn't matter who gets what, where. Also, how do you know they rated Leach 85-100. Have you considered its possible they had him in their top 30? Top 40?- 209 replies

All of the moves that have been made are for profitability not winning? Like replacing Terry Ryan with 2 people, and allowing those 2 to hire out an analytics department, new minor league staffs, scouts, etc. To suggest that Falvey was told before the draft to draft for profit is laughable.
