  1. There is a whole lot of break on those Nolasco breaking balls.
  2. The true questions with Santana's defense are if he has elite range and arm strength, will he be able to make up for the errors due to accuracy? And how much can the accuracy improve? He has a lot of defensive potential and has only played 60 or so games as a SS in the majors, as a 23 year old.
  3. Complete game, 2 hit shutout. I think he did okay.
  4. Agreed. I'm watching, and he handled the 6th very well- just gave up a hit on a weakly hit ball to left. I'm pretty sure the radar gun is broken because it randomly flashes numbers like 134, but if not he's sitting around 88-90 with the fastball. Seems odd. He's at 71 after 6 and made it through the 8th last start. Good chance he does again, which is awesome.
  5. Berrios pitching an absolute gem through 5 innings so far. 0R, 1 H, 1 BB, 5 Ks and on only 55 pitches. Nice to see.
  6. Kepler! He is starting to hit and his OPS at 'Nooga is now .827. Exciting developments there.
  7. Any reason Hicks isn't in the Rochester Lineup?
  8. We actually did rough up Kazmir and Sale- our lineup has been super impressive. Hopefully they keep it up, and I agree our starters are pitching at an unsustainable rate.
  9. Just to clarify, I wasn't saying beating up on bad teams is a bad thing. That said, regardless of where they were projected before the season started Cleveland, Oakland, Seattle and ChiSox have not been playing good ball this year. From watching our games against them, they look terrible for the most part and were booting the ball all over the place. I'm not saying none of those teams will pick it up, but they are all at or near the bottom of their division and rightfully so- they have been not been playing well. We have hung in there against KC and Detroit, which is impressive, but we have a solid record largely (and obviously not entirely) due to the competition we've faced.
  10. It is still very early, haha. The Twins were 23-21 at one point last year. The "informed" fan might argue that they are pitching and hitting at an unsustainable rate lately, and due for regression to the mean. They could still finish 70-92, like last year, or 92-70. I'm certainly hoping for something like the latter, but the former is arguably more likely. They've been beating up on bad teams, which is what they are supposed to do, but this has been a very small sample size of games. That said, I am excited to see what can happen if they can tread water until the reinforcements come.
  11. Yeah he is probably going to need to show more patience to be a good hitting corner outfielder in the bigs, or pitchers will exploit him.
  12. After how wretched our outfield defense has been, how awesome would it be to have a (likely) above-average outfield defense in Hicks, Bucky and Rosario by the end of the season.
  13. As Eddie's adopter: Congrats Eddie! Excited to see how he performs in The Show. This guy has shown incredible flashes of talent, even if he wasn't tearing it up in AAA. I'm sure he is on top of the world. Hopefully he shows he belongs, but if he doesn't he's only 23 and it certainly would not hurt his potential.
  14. Ninja update: It is official. Congrats Eddie! There is a thread on the front page discussing it, but I will say here I'm proud of my prospect, and good for him. Whether it's a cup of coffee (which is likely) or he shows he belongs, Eddie worked hard to get here.
  15. Apparently Rosario retweeted a message that congratulated him on his call-up to the Twins. I don't know who "Hiram Burgos" is or how reliable they are, but if it's true it is honestly a little surprising. His performance has been a bit underwhelming at AAA this year, though he certainly hasn't seemed overmatched. This is likely a temporary move to replace Arcia, who tweaked something in yesterday's game. It's also surprising to me because Aaron Hicks has been hitting really well for the Red Wings. It shows that they want to be patient with Hicks, possibly at the expense of rushing Rosario. An interesting decision, but I am absolutely pumped to see Eddie in the bigs. He is undoubtedly talented, and deserved a shot eventually. Now they've thrown him into the deep end, and we all get to see if he'll swim. Most importantly: CONGRATS, EDDIE! This guy's dreams are (potentially?) coming true. More updates to come.
  16. His BABIP is .156 this year, which seems crazy low for a guy as powerful as he is. People have been saying he's been getting loud outs this year, and I believe he's had terrible luck to go with the rust. I think it is only a matter of time until his numbers come up big time, and the fact that his OPS is .705 given his low BABIP is impressive and encouraging.
  17. To opposite field, too...it was impressive.
  18. Eddie had a decent week of games- he had 8 hits in 29 ABs. He had one extra base hit (a home run on Thursday). I’ve been keeping an eye on his walks, and he didn’t draw a single one in the last week’s games. However, he also only struck out once, and only has 3 in his last 11 games. That’s a huge improvement over the beginning of the year, when he had 14 in his first 9 games. It’s interesting- he’s looking like a guy who can make contact consistently, but just isn’t walking much at all. We know he has quick hands, and presumably good bat control and a good eye. Hopefully he can learn to be a little more patient and get on base a bit more. This past week his splits were .276/.276./.379 for an OPS of .655. His BABIP was only .259. Consistent with the rest of the year, he pretty evenly split his time in RF and CF. His splits for the year: .262/.287/.417 for an OPS of .704.
  19. Sano will hit bombs. He has close to 80 power- not only at A+, but among all baseball players. He hit another one tonight. He has also shown an ability to draw walks, even at AA. When his average was .240 in 2013, his OBP was .344. Give him some time...he will be able to hit home runs and hopefully get on base enough to be a solid player, if not a star.
  20. Is there any reason Gonsalves won't start for CR? He last pitched a week ago...
  21. Didn't he get the shoulder soreness shortly after that? I think he would have been up if he hadn't gotten hurt. He's going to have a higher walk rate- we are going to have to live with that, at least for a while. The hope is he can still be an effective pitcher if his stuff is close to unhittable, even if it's often not in the strike zone. Maybe eventually he can hone his control and become an ace (a la Randy Johnson).
  22. He looks way better than the competition. The only single was a bunt single- absolutely nothing hit hard. Does anyone have any information on his use of the breaking ball? I know that was overpowering people with his fastball in the bit of the game I watched, but I don't know how well his off-speed stuff was working. I might go back and watch some more of his pitches on MiLB.TV later.
  23. Watching his start right now...he looks absolutely overpowering. Not hits or walks through 3, 5 K's. I am excited to see where this kid goes.
  24. Rosario has brought his numbers up in the past week of games with a few good performances and a great one. Encouragingly, he has shown some of the power he flashed in the early minors. In yesterday's game, he was 2-5 with a 2-run homer and a double. He also had a grand slam on the Red Wing's game on the 17th and a triple on the 19th. Eddie's discipline at the plate is something to watch. He has 16 strikeouts to 3 walks this year, a less than ideal ratio. He was able to draw a walk in yesterday's game; let's hope we see more of that going forward. Since the last update a week ago, Rosario has hit .276/.300/.586 for and OPS of .886. His BABIP was .316. On the season he is hitting a much more respectable .255/.293/.436 for an OPS of .729. His BABIP is .324. Hopefully he continues to improve.
  25. His career BB/9 in the minors is 3.9. So yes.
