  1. Add three more to that total. I'm following the game on gamecast, and they just intentionally walked him to pitch to Harrison who promptly doubled in two runs.
  2. If we traded Buxton or Sano for Cole Hamels, I would cry.
  3. I can't really imagine a realistic trade in which I would be happy about losing Santana. You mention you think he is playing above his potential, but that's unknowable, and I think it's as or even more reasonable to predict that he will get much better.
  4. I would have no problem with the Twins paying Rick not to play baseball, or better yet to play baseball for some other team, preferably in the same division. Should've sent him back to LA for Drew Butera while we had the chance.
  5. Went to the game last night in hopes of seeing a Rosario debut. Thought the chances were good with the righty Chavez going, but alas, not even a pinch hit.
  6. just watched the video of the Buxton dinger. Noticed Mentkeiwitz coaching third. Is that normal?
  7. I hate this thread. It's like I'm getting trolled by straight up White Sox fans, and can't look away. Hunter is one of the best performers on the best performing Twins team in like five years, e.g.: gw 3run jack last night. He's a Twin. We drafted him. We brought him up. He played like ten awesome seasons here on the worst playing surface in the history of sports. We should've resigned him. Now he's back for a farewell tour during a transitional season because he likes it here and wants to be a part of the organization in the future... and he's producing. I don't have a problem with dogging a player who, say, come from an LA NL team and signs for big money and terribly underperforms, but a homegrown player like Hunter? It sucks to see it. And anybody who is saying he can't play anymore is obviously either not watching the games, or just doesn't know anything about baseball. And even if he really is problematically slower in the field (which I don't think he is) than it's because he spent ten years destroying his knees running and diving all over the place on the metro dome astro turf (which if you've never experienced is pretty much like playing on concrete) and if he wants one more season in the bigs (whether he can hack it or not- and he can) than we owe it to him (not that it's our decision to make- what we owe him is a tip of our cap and a round of applause every time he steps to the plate).
  8. there's a highlight of Schafer's double on mlb gamecast. there's a replay shot from behind the pitcher. The ball breaks down and away pretty hard from left handed Schafer (from right handed Hahn). I've never seen a two seamer move that much. does Hahn throw a screw ball. It looks like a slider going the other way.
  9. ohhh! take the fork out of him!
  10. Rosario for Schafer, please?
  11. trying to find the record for fastest grand slam in history...
  12. Hopefully, while on the DL, somebody talks to Arcia about his troublesome affinity for chasing wide bitches.
  13. Did anyone see else see Pelfry hit three batters in one inning last night? He sure was having a hard time locating his bitches. When Molitor came out to pull him, I read Pelf's lips before he covered his mouth with his glove and he said, "Where my bitches at, Paul?" I didn't understand at the time, but after reading this thread, I understand. I love TD.
  14. Great threads. Great reports. Anybody else notice Chris Parmelee in the box score from the Rochester game? Looks like he still crushes AAA.
  15. I don't think that Sano has ever been pitched to in the minors. I bet he offers at a lot of pitches that are less than ideal. This seems to show up in his high K totals. When a hitter both Ks and walks a lot, something weird is going on. For the first few weeks of the season he was hitting in front of Dalton Hicks in the lineup, and Hicks was crushing. I kept expecting Sano's average to start going up, but apparently even Dalton Hicks batting 400 isn't enough to protect Sano. Now that the lineup has shuffled, and Sano is down in the lineup, we might see a change with his stats, but we've already seen a dip in production from Hicks. In Parker's article on Kennys Vargas' struggles, he mentions hitters' progression in the major leagues, and pitchers' adjustments. They start out challenging hitters with fastballs in the four spot. When a hitter proves he can handle that, there's an adjustment, and the young hitter has to start from square one. I bet if Sano was in the bigs right now, his average would be way higher. I bet, at least for a while, he'd hit 300, because pitchers would actually be challenging him. I don't think that we will really see how good he is until he gets to the big leagues. He's not even getting a chance to really play in the minors. I also agree with other statements that there is some rust after a year off, but I think that's less of a factor than him trying to deal with being pitched around in every single at bat. I haven't seen any Chattanooga games yet though, so maybe I'm wrong.
  16. We've all been dogging Nolasco for weeks; it's definitely a healthy reality check to hear from a real baseball player. Thanks for the insight, Mr. Batts.
  17. interesting to see some power from Goodrum, especially in Ft Myers. Seems like with all of the other talent in the system, he's kind of fallen out of prospect status. he might shoot right back into the picture if his power is for real.
  18. Worst post ever on this site.
  19. The kid in the Sano home run video that gets the ball is awesome. First, he makes a great sliding play to swoop in and pick up the ball in front of two other kids, and then he just about takes flight skipping down that berm with his arms a flapping and his shirt billowing about like a parachute, he gets a high five from a stranger, and then he does this cool little ball toss and catch move like, 'oh yeah, I'm the man', and he should've left it at that, but then he picks something unidentified up off the grass and does crazy tweaker 180 seizure move which is hilarious but totally undignified.
  20. I think this is an excellent point. When I watched the clip in real time, I could not tell that the ball was released before the foot came down. I would never have known it was the case had someone else not established it and said so in this thread. I think that replay and video are fun for fans, and are excellent learning tools for players, but I hate their place in the game itself. I would've been disgusted if the umpire crew reviewed the video to check for something so hair-splitting. And from a hitter's perspective, there wasn't anything deceptive about what Guthrie did. He was throwing quickly and out of the zone to try and catch Hunter. Like I said before, Vargas should have swung... not to try and hit the pitch, but to delay Perez's reaction.
  21. I probably should've ended my post without bringing up that trade scenario. It probably just distracted from any good points I might have actually made formerly. I don't think that hypothesizing whether or not Pelfry might garner any trade market value adds anything to the argument that he should continue to pitch. He should continue to pitch as long as he continues to pitch well. If Noloasco were ready to pitch today, I would not send Pelfry to the bullpen to make room for him. Neither would I send anyone else on the rotation to the bullpen or to AAA to make room for Nolasco. As for what to do with Nolasco... What happens if the Twins just reassign him to Rochester? That's not the same as cutting or releasing him. We would still have to pay him according to his contract, yes? but wouldn't it force him to consider asking the club for a release so that he could seek MLB employment elsewhere, which wouldn't that then excuse the Twins from his contract?
