    If they are serious about contending, they will either work out a trade or send him back. You can't afford to carry a pitcher who can't contribute on a regular basis if you truly want to contend. And if they put him in the rotation over SWR and Festa as some have suggested, Falvey should be fired.

    At what point do you give Miranda a chance and trust in your player development. Bring in someone who truly improves the team like Alonso or give Miranda his chance. He is not 22 years old and has proven himself with the bat. Let him play and develop his defense and see what he becomes.

    Martin was given 250 AB's, Waller hasn't had more than 260 AB's in a season, hardly giving them a real chance. Wallner was kept in AAA two years ago for two months because of Gallo even though he was tearing it up and Gallo wasn't doing anything at the plate. That is the issue with all of the bargain basement vets, their production is no better than what the kids could give and the potential upside is not being given a chance. I am not saying every prospect will be a star but some can be solid pieces. You have to trust your player development team and give them a chance. If France makes this roster it will not be as a backup, he will have 400 AB's and we will still won't know if Miranda can play 1B on a regular basis. To me he has earned a job and if he can't do it, that is when you make these moves if there are no other options.

    So after 250 AB's, we say he is done and should retire. At some point you have to develop your players and give them a chance. I am not sure if Martin can become a useful player in the major leagues but I am not sure he was given a real chance last year. This organization wants to go with end of road vets rather than develop talent and it is not working.

    Based on history France will be starting over Miranda and Miranda will be robbed of getting needed experience at 1B. And then next offseason, the question will be who play 1B, because we don't give the internal options a real chance. Bader will get 350 to 400 AB's if Rocco continues his Rocco ball, again taken from Larnach, Martin Kiersey, maybe E-Rod.

    Castro is not an everyday player, he gets exposed as happened last year the second half of the season. The best use of Castro is to start him 3 to 4 days a week and have be a late inning defensive replacement or pinch runner. With his flexibility you can make this work for almost any player. This obsession with trying to win every matchup on every AB is not a winning strategy because it can't be done. Put your best players at their best positions and let them play, that is where a player like Castro is most valuable. And if your best players aren't good enough to win, improve player development or get better players. This is on Falvey and is not a money issue.

    Why is Miranda on the roster anymore, it appears they have no use for him. He hasn't even played 100 games at 1B, why not give him a chance and he could become passable there. Two years ago, it was reported the Reds wanted him at the trade deadline but they didn't want to let him go. He will be 27 this season, either give him a chance or move on. At some point you have to develop some in house players, and let them play, not just give up on them. Next year it will be the same talking point, who will play 1B, let Miranda play there and keep Lewis at third.

    I am not a fan of Rocco, but this platoon philosophy is all related to the analytics that Falvey has invested heavily in. When you have a department crunching numbers every way you can, you have to make use of the data. And the Twins seem to be going to an extreme versus other teams. Nothing will change as long as Falvey is leading the organization. This is where I hope the new owners make changes, either Falvey becomes less rigid in his operations or he can hit the highway.

    He will be our playing LF when not filling in for Buxton, there is no way based on history they will use him as a 4th OF.

    Except he will be not be a backup, he will have over 400 AB's regardless of performance. That is the issue and he will block players with a higher ceiling.

    Castro's value is his ability to play multiple positions. This is especially beneficial with Rocco's platooning in the middle of a game. He can then slide Castro into a position he is at least average at playing. Castro's value is in playing three to four days a week, and utilizing his versatility and speed on other days. His best positions are probably 2B and LF, he is stretched when playing other positions every day.

    I do realize that, but I am hoping that there will be a fresh review of the results of the last eight years. And that they will hopefully not want to settle to be a .500 team. The Pohlads have signaled their support for Falvey via his promotion and there is no accountability for the results.

    The overall philosophy of this front office has produced one good season and a combined .500 record over the other non-Covid years. So based on overall results no it is not working to wait out the crowd. This is where I want new ownership, we need new leadership driving the bus. Their analytics driven operations and trying to play the odds will create .500 plus or minus a few wins over the course of a season. Get quality players, give them a position and tell them to play everyday, that is what will contend for more than the playoffs. But by waiting out the market, you again are just trying to get another role player that will be put into spots where they won't be successful overall.

    With the rule changes, you do not need the traditional speed guy to steal bases. We have players that are capable of stealing bases under the new rules. But the analytics department has determined that stolen bases have little or no value in run scoring. That is why we don't hold runners on effectively or try for more stolen bases. So is Rocco going to go on his own instincts or has the organization changed their thinking.

    If Gasper is on the 26 man roster, we are no better than last year. If they can't sign quality major league players, give the kids with more upside the opportunity. This is getting old running 4A players out there and trying to convince us that we are a contender. Stop with the platooning and get quality players that can play every day at one position with reasonable days off.

    Taxpayers have gotten value from both Target Field and Target Center. There was no Warehouse District before Target Center was built. That area of town was a dump, now it is thriving. Whether all dollars needed to build the facilities has been recouped can be debated but they have brought value to the city and county.

    We don't know if Baldelli has been extended or not, when they extended him in 2022 it did not become public for a year and a half. For some reason we don't need to know the status of the manager per the front office actions. As for Baldelli staying or not, I really think we need a new manager. His strategic moves are more of an organizational philosophy which I believe is unbalanced towards analytics. So I don't put all the blame on him for those. But where he is falling short is in player development. Very few players come to the majors as a complete player, there still needs to be development. And who has been developed and gotten better especially on the position side. Is it his style, he likes to say the players know what needs to be done to get ready for a game, maybe younger players need more guidance to learn what it takes. Not sure if that is happening or not. Our fundamentals are lacking, that is on the coaching staff and the manager. Stop moving players around, let them become good at one position and become comfortable. You don't win with 13 utility players. Lewis not knowing his position at this point of the offseason is ridiculous, he could be the face of this franchise. He needs a position so he can learn and get comfortable, let's see if the results are better then.

    Counting on Stewart to be a key piece of the bullpen would be malpractice by the Front Office. He has never pitched over 30 innings and is in his thirties. Topa is in his mid thirties and has had one good year. These two should not be part of the planning for a bullpen except for filling in as needed.

    Castro was the only the MVP because somebody had to be, I personally would have preferred Ober or Ryan before he got hurt. Castro only led us in any hitting categories because he had more than 150 AB's more than anyone else other than Santana. His best two positions are 2B and LF, any other position he plays should only be as a game by game fill in or defensive replacement for a pinch hitter. Our goal should be to have quality players at all positions, reasonably 5 or 6 positions as a minimum. Then you can use a player like Castro properly, fill in for days off 3 or 4 days a week, pinch run and give flexibility for pinch hitting moves at the end of the game. Only the Twins obsession with match ups for every AB makes a player like Castro appear more valuable then they are. You are not going to win consistently with a player like Castro leading your team in AB's.

    Santana led the team in home runs and RBI's because he had more AB's than any other player other than Castro. And the next player had over a 100 less AB's with nearly identical production. Santana is league average or below against RH pitching. Can we raise the bar at some bar and ask for real production,

    This is a pretty narrow view and not realistic. So you want the Twins to just spend to a certain if there are not needs. Just like when we signed Donaldson, wasn't really a need but they money available so they spent it. And is this front office able to identify the correct players to spend on, the last two years they have not done a job on allocating the resources given to them.

    This is a reasonable and fair analysis. A couple of points I disagree with, if you target having 6 to 7 solid starting position players, the need for positional flexibility is greatly reduced. Yes having a utility IF has always been part of roster construction, but we are trying to combine the utility infielder and 4th OF position and that doesn't work. So they create the need for positional flexibility by not developing everyday players and turning players into platoon players. As for the bullpen, counting on Stewart was a hope and a prayer. He has never pitched over 30 innings, you can't go into the season with counting on him, you need to take what he gives you as frosting not the cake. They have done this consistently with the bullpen, they obtain players with limited track records who have bounced around the league. Or they acquire injured pitchers or pitchers with histories of injuries. I get taking a chance on one or two and hoping you hit the lottery. But you can't build the framework of your bullpen this way. This year they had 6 relievers that fit into this category that they were hoping would be integral parts of the bullpen and none were for even half the year. No wonder it fell apart.

    First I said analytics should be used as a tool, I never denied they shouldn't be used. But there is no way Rocco is making the decisions he is by his gut and keeping his job. This is why LH do not start or hit against LH pitching, pitchers are pulled before they face the lineup a third, Duran is used based on who is coming up i.e. the middle of the lineup. These are decisions made before the game starts and is the basis of the organizational philosophy that Falvey has created.

    Falvey has created the analytics driven model that is being followed on the field. The analytics staff he has built is driving the decisions of this organization. This includes the roster construction of short sided platooning, hit the ball hard and go for the home run strategy, stolen bases do not impact the game strategy that is being utilized. Analytics is a tool, but the team is using it as the driving baseline for most decisions. That is on the PBO by the name of Falvey and if he continues with that model, the people reporting up to him have to follow the same strategy.

    You are correct, you can't just change for the sake of change, You need to have a model to work from, but you have to be willing to review if it is working and tweak or even blow it up if needed. But Falvey just does not seem to waver to the point of stubbornness. I hope he proves me wrong next year.
