  1. Sticking with the hometown and ex Twin slant - David Mark Winfield - in my opinion the greatest athlete the City of Saint Paul ever produced (sorry Joe!)
  2. If the Twins traded for Tulo or Lucroy, the answer would be "both" depending on what they give up for them as they could help now and for the next several years (at least until Gordon is ready in the case of Tulo).
  3. Since I'm late to the thread - I thought I'd add a 2nd - To quote Calvin Griffith - "Love that kid" - Butch Wynegar!
  4. My first favorite Twin - Rodney Cline Carew.
  5. The Twins need at SS is very short term (the rest of this season any maybe 2016). By then, hopefully either Santana, Polanco or Nick Gordon will be ready and able to grab the position long term. As a result, I'd be very hesitant to bring in someone who is no more than a stop-gap option.
  6. Arcia has even less trade value in the National League due to his poor defense, which is where the three targets in this article currently reside. We'll see if "Tradin Terry" can pull off something to help the team this year, and without mortgaging the future.
  7. So, is it safe for us to get our hopes up? After 4 years of some of the worst baseball in the Major Leagues, the Minnesota Twins sit here at the All Star break with the 2nd best record in the American League. The also have a 4 game "lead" in the Wild Card race. They have a solid starting rotation that is 6 deep. They have a second baseman whose name could be in the under consideration for MVP and a closer whose name should be under consideration for Cy Young if they keep up their current paces. Finally they just went 8-3 going into the All Star break against 3 teams that made the American League playoffs the previous season. Yes, there are issues, but with the status of the American League right now, it is hard not to have some optimism that this team will be playing some very meaningful games over the next 2.5 months. Thoughts?
  8. Thanks Parker. When I hear change-up I immediately think of Frankie V. and Johan. Their's were DEADLY! I wonder how long it might take for opposing hitters to catch on to this? Gibson was interviewed from the dugout last Saturday in KC on the FOX TV broadcast and gave a detailed description of how and when he is throwing his change-up. That plus articles like this one leads me to believe that opposing hitters are/will be aware of this approach. Does that make a difference?
  9. It was actually last season. Here is a link. http://fansided.com/2014/08/23/twins-eduardo-nunez-helmet-taped-gif Also this is nothing new for Nunez as evidenced by this clip while he was with the Yankees.
  10. Terrific analysis Parker! Thanks you. I hope Meyer can keep that "Undertaker" mentality in the Bigs. Yes, like many I would have hoped that he would have succeeded as a starter, but there is nothing wrong with the Twins having a deep, dominant bullpen. Look what that has done for the Royals.
  11. Yes - with Derek Lowe for Heathcliff Slocumb. Boy did the Mariners get fleeced in that deal!
  12. Seth - thanks for the walk down memory lane - as good and bad as some of those memories were!
  13. Was wondering why Kirby was not on the list and had to research to determine he was taken in a "January" draft. Wasn't sure what that was so I looked it up. Here is what Wikipedia states "Originally, three MLB drafts were held each year. The first draft took place in June and involved high-school graduates and college seniors who had just finished their seasons. The second draft took place in January for high school and college players who had graduated in December. The third draft took place in August and was for players who participated in American amateur summer leagues. The August draft was eliminated after two years, and the January draft lasted until 1986. This makes me wonder if there are some others that fall into those other "non June" drafts that are worth a mention?
  14. Yup - my bad. I was looking at ESPN.com and they list the non 25 man roster players on the 40 man on the bottom. Meyer is on the 40 man. Bring him up!
  15. Hosken - Schwarber was 2 for 12 with 6 K's when he played against the Twins last weekend. Not exactly my definition of "killing" us. Besides he was able to play DH, which is not the case over the next week for the Twins as you point out.
  16. One other factor possible, if only slightly, preventing Meyer from being called up is that he is not on the 40 man roster. They do have an open spot, but E. Santana needs to be added to the 40 man as well when he is activated.
  17. Maybe it did impact Buxton hitting in the 9 hole - especially behind a pitcher in St. Louis last week. NAH! I agree with Brock - just get him in the lineup anywhere and let him play. Hopefully yesterday was the first of many excellent games for him!
  18. I guess Buxton felt too much pressure being in the 9 hole - especially with a pitcher hitting in front of him for a few games. Look what happened when they put him in the lead-off spot! Youzers!
  19. Was listening to Terry Ryan on the radio yesterday. They may make some bullpen moves sooner, but they hope to wait until Santana (and eventually Nolasco) come back. Those returns may mean two current starters could go to the bullpen, which would significantly change the bullpens make-up.
  20. Stauffer was officially released as well.
  21. Maybe. Keep in mind they need a spot on the 40 man for Santana when his suspension ends.
  22. At least Molitor moved him out of the "3 hole" in last nights game, and the early line-up shows him batting 2nd again today. That maybe the start of the recognition that Joe is not performing at the level to merit him batting 3rd.
  23. One other item to that will need to be addressed is who gets booted off the 40 man when Santana's suspension ends?
