  1. And most importantly, what’s gotten into Kyle Gibson? I picture Mike McGrevey walking away saying "A multi year deal worth big bucks, that's what"
  2. http://www.podbean.com/media/share/pb-8c3mz-5f9e13 Interesting Podcast with Mark Hamburger. Willie Argo and Hamburger are both with the St Paul Saints. Hamburger tells his story from getting to the MLB with the Rangers and his time in rehab and everything in between. Some interesting stuff on a former Twins minor leaguer and MN native
  3. He has 153 MLB at bats. 153! Not everyone clicks right away. Ideally he would have not come up last year when he did. Yes, maybe the Trout comparisons were maybe overdone, but that is what happens, they have to be compared to someone. He has been good although inconsistent in the minors but the struggles there all coincided with injuries.
  4. I got 21 and somehow forgot Go Go. I felt wrong typing in Punto and Escobar.
  5. Just for fun: This quiz on Twins center fielders since Kirby is depressing and a little tough considering it counts even 1 game played in center. A lot of names popped up that made me say, wow I forgot about that guy. http://www.yardbarker.com/mlb/articles/quiz_name_every_minnesota_twins_centerfielder_since_kirby_puckett/s1__20360008
  6. I think you mean the Ben Revere trade in your Trevor May write up
  7. I agree with Seth, I think he will get a fairly big fine, but wouldn't be surprised to see him get at least 2 games. Also, it looked liked the one umpire said "I'm just trying to get you off the field." as he and Torii both kind of acknowledged they weren't trying to push each other. I don't see it as him making contact with an umpire as he wasn't even the umpire Torii was yelling at.
  8. The problem with fan voting is people look at BA and home runs. That is what they list on the ballot along with RBI. People look vote for the players they know, cheer for or at quick glance down the comparison have higher avg/HR I think Perk is the slam dunk especially being there a couple times already. I also, like others think that Plouffe and Dozier are deserving. I think if the Twins continue to play like they have they will have at least one guy going along with Perk, hopefully two.
  9. One of my favorite places to go for a good laugh is the comment section on a Souhan article about the Twins. Take some time to read through there. Some brilliant minds hanging out. That said I am a big fan of Plouffe. He probably is never going to hit for much better avg wise than he did last year, will hit for some power and play consistently in the field. I remember when Cuddyer was a big prospect for the Twins and he was ready to be the third basemen and watching him struggle to field routine ground balls. Some guys figure it out with the bat before the glove. Plouffe started with the power, challenging Hammer a few years ago and everything else has come along.
  10. My first Twins game I do not really remember other than I have my Wheaties, Kirby Puckett bat. I was only a year or 2 old. My parents said that everyone around us had a bat and I cried. Kid in front of us gave me the bat because they were season ticket holders and had other souvenirs. My parents said I held the bat in my car seat and slept the whole way home. I am guessing that is how I became a Kirby Puckett fan. That and watching the 1987 and 1991 ALCS and World Series tapes' on VHS in the middle of winter when no other baseball was on. My son was only a few months old when we went to his first Twins game at US Cellular last year. I cannot wait until he is old enough to enjoy it. Hopefully the team is worth remembering at that point.
  11. I would love for ole Fanatic Jack from Twitter to see your rankings. His hate for Plouffe is comical, but he disappeared from Twitter last season. I hope he comes back for some entertainment. I am sure any of you that are on Twitter have seen a rant or two from him followed by some nice A** kissing of players like Suzuki
  12. We took our 2 month old to US Cellular last September with some friends who were White Sox fans and they had a 5 month old. Both of our wives wore Baby Bjorn type carriers and the babies slept for the most part. Ours thankfully slept the whole game other than to eat at one point and when our friends baby was crying they simply walked up to the concourse until he calmed down. We were surrounded by both Twins and White Sox fans and had a great experience. We had people stop and ask us if we received a certificate for their first game. Other than the Viciedo walk off homer and the Iowa Hawkeyes losing on a last second field goal to Iowa State, it was a great day. We went to the night game of the double header. If you feel comfortable taking a baby to the game just make sure you are not in anyone else's way or they are annoying anyone you can always leave or go to the concourse. If you are not comfortable then wait until they are older.
  13. http://www.springtrainingconnection.com/reportingdates.html Assuming this is all correct info, I noticed the Twins report a day or two after everyone else in both pitchers and catchers and full team. I know its not a big deal, but does anyone know why they are later than everyone else? Also, sorry if this has been discussed, I haven't been around for a while.
  14. I feel like I opened a thread started in like 2010
  15. Anyone else surprised that Michael is only 23? I feel like he came out of UNC 5 years ago. Was he just very young for his class?
  16. This is a much better problem to have than the PJ Walters, Cole DeVries, Scott Diamond, Andrew Albers, Pedro Hernandez type rotations that were trotted out the last few years. I would rather have the problem of "the Twins have too many guys", than, "Who started?"
  17. There is an opening isnt there, with Collabello getting picked up by Toronto?
  18. I don't want to see Plouffe traded unless you can get an arm for him and I really don't see him bringing a middle of the rotation guy. I think he has continued to improve both offensively and defensively each year. Whether you keep him until Sano proves himself and then trade him or move him to the outfield I think he has value. I dont understand the crowd that is all about trading him just because the Twins waited on a few other players and they declined after not being traded.
  19. Good for him. To get a 2 year deal coming off of an injury plagued year. I thought that the QO was going to be a slam dunk, but for him to get 2 years at 36 he can then decide to hang it up or play year to year until 40.
  20. THe fact that Ryan is considering talking to Renteria makes me mad. How can you not even give a call to Maddon to hear no, but you are going to put off your candidates for the guy who was fired to get Maddon? The, Maddon might have been too expensive so we didnt even pick up the phone excuse is BS. If you felt great about your other guys then great, dont even think about Renteria.
  21. This would be my number one pick for manager. I know it doesnt turn the team around magically but I would love this hire. A true outside with a forward way of thinking and a change that this organization could use. I know everyone is pointing every other direction for where he might go instead of Minnesota, but get it done Terry Give him "a 3-year deal, 18 million, a house, a golf membership at fair oaks, a dog, and a ferarri testarossa." That deal has been on the table since Rickey Henderson turned it down in 1994 in Little Big League And for the record I dont think this happens, but it is fun to dream
  22. I like the list and like that there are more hard throwing guys than there have been in the past. Like you mentioned injuries hampered a lot their seasons so it will be interesting/fun to watch how they bounce back. One thing I noticed is you have a few guys starting in New Britain in 2014. Should be Chattanooga in 2015 right?
  23. I honestly am pretty stunned that this happened. I have always been a big Gardy supporter and am somewhat dissappointed to see him go, but this is one of those things where it needed to be done. I dont blame him for the last four seasons. No one was going to win with Nishi, two dudes named Rene and a staff of PJ Walters and Cole DeVries types trotting out each night. The last four years have been rough and I dont think firing Gardy is going to make next year the year to be back. I expect some struggles from prospects but at least its prospects and not jersey fillers. I also think Gardy was just kind of used over the past 4 years. Ownership could see the losses coming and would rather have him stay than go through a mangerial change and do it all again when it didnt work in 3 years. To people saying the Twins dont have loyalty is laughable. They brought back Bill Smith and reassigned asst coaches who werent doing well to another coaching position instead of firing them for Christ's sake I hope Gardy gets another chance and I think he will and he will probably win elsewhere but with the youth movement coming I would like to see Dougie or a younger voice in the clubhouse or an outsider altogether.
  24. For me when Kirby had to retire it was devestating. While I was only 7 at the time, I grew up glued to the TV watching VHS tapes of the 87 and 91 world series. My dad always told me during the middle of winter I wanted to watch baseball and so he popped in those tapes. He was immediately my favorite player. When all of the negative events and issues started coming to light my friends thought it was fun to give me crap that my favorite player and who he was off the field. It was then I realized he was my favorite baseball player, but I had never claimed he was my favorite person. When he passed away I was a Junior in high school and I remember my now wife, not understanding why I was upset. Had all of the negative aspects of his life and the abuse/sexual assault stuff been out it probably would have been different, but I wore 34 because of his play, not because of him as a person. That being said I will never tell my son to be like him, but if he wants to play like him I dont think I would have a problem with that.
