  1. What's amazing about the Ft. Myers game is that none of their seven runs came off a hit. All the runs scored as a result of bases-loaded walks, wild pitches with runners on third, or ground outs. They were 0-fer with RISP, but still scored seven runs.
  2. John Ryan Murphy was struggling, with a horrible May. In June, however, he's slashing .288/.350/.462. I wouldn't describe him as struggling.
  3. I'm going back to bed, and pulling the covers up way over my eyes.
  4. When you have a prized rookie, with a lot of expectations on his shoulders, and you're asking him to make a transition to a new position, one that he may or may not be comfortable with, one where he's going to have some growing pains, maybe even some embarrassing ones...wouldn't you want to give him the courtesy of letting him make some mistakes outside of the glare of the spotlight? Maybe stashing him far from prying eyes and internet chatterbugs is the best thing for his development.
  5. Remember that the TwinsCentric pieces are posted first in the StarTribune. Although I am constantly warned not to read the comments there, I do occasionally (for laughs), and they were chock full of people doing exactly what Nick was saying.
  6. The Twins are reporting that they have called up Kepler.
  7. Finally having those great in-house options? Seriously, none of those leaders would have been ready to plug in at the start of this major league season.
  8. Apparently, he injured it taking BP before the game today.
  9. Regarding Stewart (I can't seem to quote on the mobile site ), remember Mat Batts' piece here recently. He said that the minors are more about process than results. Development trumps stats, in other words. Stewart is only a few years out of high school. Let him develop.
  10. Oliveros was out righted earlier this year and every other team passed on him. This tells me that no other team values him either.
  11. I'm not buying the Twins for two reasons. One, I don't think the Pohlads are selling and, two, if they were, I don't have the hundreds of millions of dollars they would be asking.
  12. If the Mock Draft is tonight, as the lead paragraph states, when's the real one?;-)
  13. I stand by my assertion, as there's plenty of evidence for it on this thread and others.
  14. Thank you, Doc. I think we're so spoiled by the "on-demand internet" and the 24-hour news cycle that it's easy to look at the current situation and, if it can't help me this week, then to heck with it. Everyone's infatuated with Pinto's bat now, but look back at his minor league career, and he wasn't exactly a sure-fire prospect. He had some pretty brutal seasons offensively.
  15. One thing that confuses me - they sent Vargas down to get some work in during the short NL trip and two days off. OK, I can accept that. But he hasn't played in any of the three games so far. I understand not being able to play Sunday, but why wasn't he in the lineup either game yesterday?
  16. I see that Chih-Wei Hu is being sent to Rochester to make a spot start for the Red Wings tonight. Should be fun to see how he fares!
  17. "The offense managed 13 hits, but many players had seven plate-appearances and the team batted only .217 on Tuesday night." They were 13 of 54 last night, so they actually hit .241 for the evening. They are hitting .217 for the year. It's confusing the way MiLB.com does that.
  18. We at least got one good month out of Nolasco last September. We've only seen one good start from Milone, including last year. At this point, I'd keep Nolasco in the rotation.
  19. He can refuse the assignment (as a veteran with more than five years of experience). He does become a free agent at that point, but it does not void his contract. So, basically, he'd get paid twice if another team signed him, and we'd still be on the hook.
  20. Five hits and two walks in seven innings in his last start. One base runner per inning is acceptable in my book. As to the questions of what to do with Nolasco - I think the reality is that we can't just stick him in indefinite rehab, per the CBA. Either he has to be back with the club or he's released, and I can't see the Twins swallowing three years of contract to release him. Both Milone and Pelfrey have had one good start, one mediocre one, and one poor one so far this year. Any differences in peripherals are because Milone struck out more batters in his one good start. We can no more call Milone consistent than we can say that about Pelfrey yet. As someone said above - each of our starters will get two more starts before Nolasco has to come back. A lot can (and will) change before then.
  21. Pull up! Pull UP! Breathe, Doc. Breathe. That's a whole lot of words for one day for a sub-par baseball team! :-) Please, no strokes on the board. It's just not worth it, man!
  22. You know it's bad when Nick is despondent! I can't see cutting bait on Gibson and his potential after one, or even two, rough starts. He's way too talented to say "He stunk last week, so move on." The sample size is simply way too small to be talking wholesale changes at this point. I would bring Pinto up as he's obviously got himself back in playing shape, but let's be honest, Herrman has not been the problem so far! Small sample size Exhibit A: Hicks' "OPS over 1.000" just dropped 200 points in a single game. Let's see how a few weeks pan out. The current Twins lineup is bad, but it isn't THIS bad. I can't believe that we'll continue this putrid play and record over the next three weeks.
  23. I'm 100% with you, especialy on point F. We can Zips, Pecota, Siera and Bolera (ok, I made that last one up) all we want. It means nothing until the games are played.
  24. There was definitely a report that he signed. But that report was later retracted. If he is with the Twins, he's not on their latest minor league work groups - not even EST.
