    Not sure that Latos is that much of an upgrade with a 1.31 WHIP. Capps I can get more excited about and Ramos...of course there are those that will be afraid of anyone named Capps. A dominant lefty would be nice, but that's asking too much. Hopefully O'Rourke will be that guy. Thompson definitely isn't and Duensing either.

    When I look at the Twins shopping list which should just be bull pen arms, I'm not seeing much out there. Chapman...but we don't need a closer. So, how about this - we go after a starting pitcher. Whaaaaa? We have too many of those already! But what about moving Pelfrey to the BP? Would it tick him off? Sure. Is he gone after this year anyway? Probably. Is he better than some of the current BP arms? I think so. I don't think we need to get into the bidding war for Cueto, but there are some other quality arms out there who might improve both our rotation and our pen in one shot.

    I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a blown save by the Detroit bullpen in this series as well.

    When I look at the stats, it looks like an edge to Detroit in the hitting department (possibly a push with Cabrera out). Pitching - not a big fan of ERA, so BAA is .269 vs. .264 (slight edge to them), and we have 46 errors vs. their 43. The pitching and fielding stats are both dependent on the scorekeeper, but I'll assume that the scorekeepers are equally unobjective. So, on paper, Detroit looks a little better....but paper doesn't win games. Given the stats and the tear that Detroit has been on, I'd take a split. Win tonight, and all bets are off. Go Twins!

    While I relish the idea of Rosario, Buxton, and Hicks in the OF, I don't see it happening this year. Buxton is a force in CF. He can change a game. Don't care about his 4K's yesterday. I'm willing to let him learn at the plate while he patrols the outfield. Tori is not fast in right, but if he wants to play one more year, I would have him be a 4th OF and maybe do some DHing. Joe...Joe...Joe...what to do about Joe?

    I don't think it will be a long rain delay, but I don't see them getting this game completely in. Get up early, stay up.

    On a positive note, our starting pitcher looked good. On the downside, our bullpen is unraveling, especially our lefties except for Perk. Thompson has looked bad lately as has Duensing. Neither has overpowering stuff and when you can't locate, it spells disaster.

    I think the issue for Joe started when he grew late. A 6'2" catcher is plausible, a 6'5" catcher is not. Higher profile catchers stand a greater chance of getting beat up and a lesser chance of throwing out runners. When Joe was drafted, he was not 6'5". When he was learning the position, he was shorter yet. In his earlier career, he threw out runners at or above the league percentage. That declined as he advanced in years and stature. At his prime, he was a really good catcher and a great hitter. Prior to Joe, a great catcher batted .280 and threw out 40+ percent of runners (Johnny Bench was 6'1"). In his prime, Joe batted .350 and threw out 40+ percent of runners. Yadi Molina is someone that I would say is one of the best catchers in the game today. He's 5'11", bats .287 and throws out 45-50 percent of the runners. Joe batting .350 and throwing out 40 percent of runners was insane...but so is catching when you are 6'5". Best catcher ever? Roy Campanella - 5'9", batted .276 and threw out 57% of runners. JMO.

    Let me clarify - stud=potential as in prospect. It just depends on what the market offers. Teams that need another solid starter to compete for their division and make it into the post season are willing to pay. That said, the additional wild card spot has really thrown a wrench into the whole trade market at the deadline IMO.

    Keep in mind that he added a split finger this year that has been giving batters fits and adding to the ground ball outs. That said, I am a proponent of trading him at the deadline for the right piece. What is the right piece? Stud shortstop? Stud catching prospect? Potential ace? Dunno.

    Remember when Lou Piniella picked up the base and threw it? How can anyone say that T-Hunt went too far? He took off his shirt! It worked for Brandi Chastain! No one complained when she did it!....OK, I digress in my argument. Back to Lou...now that guy could throw a fit. He made sure that the ump got his point. Over the top? Sure, but when the umps calls are really bad, over the top is just what is needed. Go Twins! Go Torii! Let's get fired up!

    The beauty of this all is that the Twins will once again be written off by the media after being swept...now we can get back to work.

    I'm a little league coach, but comparing what Tori did to little league is silly. These are major league guys who get paid based on their numbers. Here is what I see it accomplished: a) National news covered it...not just ESPN or sports channels...it was on the morning news. No ump wants to be on the national news for making a lousy call and I think we can all agree that it was a lousy call. Guessing the other umps are thinking that they don't want it to be them making the news. It showed fire. It showed an expectation that we are never out of a game and just because the ump has dinner reservations isn't a reason to take away an at bat. c) This was not just the result of a single bad call. The strike zone was a mess all night. Accepting bad umping shouldn't happen at a major league level, yet MLB makes it almost impossible to protest bad umping. These guys are getting paid well, they should be held accountable. A consistent strike zone shouldn't be that tough for guys that do this professionally.

    I flipped it over to the NBA finals for a bit and now I know why I like baseball. I couldn't tell you what a foul or traveling is anymore according to their "rules". The NBA is a joke and I couldn't care less who wins.
