  1. "...the business side of baseball sometimes prevents some guys who are really good at playing baseball to get to the big leagues.” This is something every fan should always remember. Every player that goes through a streak when they can't seem to get a single batter out or when they can't hit their way out of a paper sack is still really, really good.
  2. He only does it at the end of the game, correct? Do you also consider it to be showboating when the three outfielders run to center field to jump together (or when Buxton was up, miming a fade away jump shot together)? I'm curious about when something crosses the showboat line for you. Or for anybody else.
  3. Too bad Mejia pitched 3 innings in relief the other day in Boston. Pulled in the 5th after 74 pitches - 1 hit, 3 walks up to that point. Hopefully on full rest before his next start we'll see him pitch into the 6th-7th-8th.
  4. "TRANSACTIONS Jeremy Hazelbaker was acquired from Tampa Bay for cash considerations and was assigned to Rochester. Another left-handed hitting outfielder, Hazelbaker has hit .258/.327/.500 (.827 OPS) over 285 plate appearances with the Cardinals and Diamondbacks. The 30-year-old was having a rough go of things for Durham, Tampa Bay’s Triple-A affiliate, hitting .210/.293/.397 (.690 OPS)." Complete unfounded gut reaction conspiracy theory: That sounds like the kind of move you'd make if you were going to trade someone like Kepler. More likely: Oh, another AAAA outfielder for depth since LaMarre is gone.
  5. I don’t think going to Gordon makes sense given his current struggles at AAA. September callup to get his feet wet and he will shuttle between here and Rochester in 2019. 2020 is his timeline for “full time.” Also, I’m not convinced Dozier is going anywhere. I think they probably should trade him, but I don’t know if what they are offered from interested teams will satisfy. In fact, I could see them giving Dozier and Escobar both a QO!
  6. I think the likeliest trade is Lynn. He is a known commodity and has been solid since his terrible start. Santana isn’t going anywhere, unless he comes back and makes several good starts with a hiccup. That means August deadline, not July, if it happens at all. I don’t think anyone offers enough for Gibson to be traded, and I’m ok with that. He has been a good piece to have for a year now. I think you run Slegers and Mejia out there now, and Gonsalves and Littell in September. If anyone wants Rodney or Duke, you say yes. If Belisle’s mom calls and asks to trade for him, say yes. Otherwise, pay him the rest of his money and tell him to buy the most comfortable couch on the market. If anyone inquires about Dozier or Lomo you say yes. If anyone asks about Escobar, you ask for a lot and give him a QO if he’s still around at the end of the year unless you can sign him for a reasonable 2-3 year deal. If anybody asks about Buxton, you think real hard, but say no. He will figure it out sometime next year. If anybody asks about Sano, you say no. He will be a full beast next year or maybe even August. It sure would be nice if they didn’t lose until after the All Star break and make everyone complain when we still do the right thing and makes some trades.
  7. No Sano. Buxton 2 for 3 followed by 0 for 4 and 2 more K’s. Will we see either before September?
  8. Romero has thrown 51.1 MLB innings - 1.1 innings over the threshold. So I assume he will not be on prospect lists in 2019, even if he doesn’t throw another MLB inning this year.
  9. I would assume the more mass there is on his body, the harder it is to keep his hands inside.
  10. Kohl Stewart “struck out nine.” That sure is a weird way to misspell “struck out four.”
  11. Regarding limits on innings for Romero later this summer if necessary, a nice little Dodger 2017 DL strategy isn’t a terrible idea. FO: “Hey Fernando, is that a blister I see on your finger?” FR: “No.” FO: “That sure looks sore. Affecting your grip, I suppose, huh?” FR: “No, my grip is fine.” FO: “That’s too bad. But don’t worry. I’m sure it’ll be gone in 10 days. Heal up!”
  12. High temperature tomorrow is forecast to be 22F. No game getting played then. Find a day to bring the Mariners back during the season when it is warm.
  13. Out of curiosity, what would exonerate him?
  14. You’ll note that I put that part in quotes and you can interpret it however you’d like. My experience with casual sports fans are that they very much side with players versus owners. In our state in particular, it strikes me that casual fans believe that someone who has stayed with a team for his whole career and who has been “classy” throughout (I’ll interpret classy for you: hasn’t been in trouble and otherwise appears to be a good citizen) deserves to stay around as long as they can reasonably play, regardless of the compensation they have received previously. Given that casual fans make up a large portion of the money that comes to the organization, I think there is another point than those laid out by the author (who did a very good job laying out his points. I just disagree.). So there. Peace.
  15. This might be one of those cases where not everything is about who will provide the most WAR. If Mauer has a terrible year, then I agree with all of the above. But if he has another good year, that guy is getting a deal with the Twins. He is such a known entity for the casual Minnesota Twins fan, that “treating him poorly” would have huge negative ramifications, I think. He has already stated that he wants to play after this year and can’t see himself playing anywhere else. If he doesn’t tank, he’s back. I think he will see the writing on the wall and take a contract that reflects his current value, but he’s back. No doubt in my mind.
  16. This team should be better than last year in both starting players and depth, and playing in a worse division. Take ‘em one game at a time. What’s the over under on wins?
  17. There will be no guessing when I write in metaphors. You’ll know, because when I do, I’m a volcano, spewing forth my lava down the hillsides of Twins Daily, destroying villages of commenters and moderators. I’m pretty good with similes, too. My dog can’t write to save his life, but he’s big and I literally will listen to the podcast as I pick up his steaming piles of poop. Let me know if you ever need a guest host, Bonnes.
  18. I am now subscribed and will listen as my dog forces me to walk around the neighborhood with him and pick up his poo.
  19. Jim Those was a first ballot Hall of Faser.
  20. Let he who is without fat cast the first Oreo. Just kidding. I’ll take that Oreo if you’re just going to cast it away.
  21. I have enjoyed watching Palacios via stats and minor league write ups, but if it is Odorizzi for Palacios 1-for-1, I think the Twins did well. Well done.
