  1. The Phillies are seriously cray-cray. Their TOP choice for CF is Ben Revere????
  2. I can't believe this is actually a possibility. It is shocking to me that Revere's name is being thrown out there and that an actual top prospect could return.
  3. I agree. What's the single-season doubles record? I seriously think he would break it in Monster doubles alone.
  4. Ahahaha, syves. Nice. I haven't noticed too much of an uptick in meanness, though Ben Revere seems to inspire some hostility . . .
  5. The Mets would demand a top 5 prospect and a top 10 prospect to start things off. This is not going to happen.
  6. You're at . . . as clueless as I am. Ridding the team of Span for someone who will not pitch legitimately for the Twins before 2014 indicates a blowup and that is what should be done with one more trade of Morneau for another similar pitcher. I said go big or go big. That meant stick with this team with no trades and load up on FA pitchers or trade multiple players for the future. half-assing it is a terrible idea. That is what they will do. Saunders and Liriano!!???
  7. Hardy would never want to return to this team.
  8. Morneau is also being floated. Thankfully. I don't think Revere is a high point in his market value! I am not sure how to think otherwise. Teams aren't going to worry about one 500K season as a deal breaker.
  9. There is no reason to spend ANYTHING on pitchers like these two. They are replacement-level. Sam Deduno and company can do the exact same thing.
  10. I assumed that SVD was joking about Obama. Yes, I understand what the union does. I was trying to make a case for this situation being advantageous for both sides. That said, agents are a third side and they are the ones to lose the most in this.
  11. Haha, how terrible. I would laugh my ass off at this team if they added Saunders and Liriano and called it over. Saunders is a walking Blackburn explosion and Liriano being considered for this team by anyone is insane.
  12. I find it preposterous. Trading Revere right now is selling pretty low. He is undoubtedly going to improve some this year, so that might as well be for the Twins and they can trade him after this year. How is Justin Morneau not being talked about as a trade candidate? It is obvious that he needs to go.
  13. Here's a crazy idea to throw out... we know the Twins have room to take on some salary for '13 and even '14. What if Revere went to a team that also wants to shed a contract and that got us back a better prospect? Angels are the first to mind with Vernon Wells. They'd have a nice outfield of Trout and Trumbo with Bourjos ® and Revere (L) and the salary savings would let them get another SP. We could easily ask for a pair of nice prospects in return. Crazy? Probably crazy, yeah. But it's not like this FO hasn't done crazy stuff before. It does seem a little "out there" for someone as conservative as Terry Ryan. I'm also not sure there's all that much room to take on salary in '13 unless Ryan really doesn't do anything except dumpster dive for pitching. By 2014 and certainly 2015, there would be a lot more room for this kind of move. By then, it may make more sense, too, if there's a particular position they feel they need to fill from outside the organization to augment all of the young kids coming up. Keep thinking outside the box, though. Someone around here should do it and it's not likely to be the Twins FO. Yeah, I like that kind of wheeling and dealing and wish that people would consider spending to get prospects much more often.
  14. Trading Revere right now is silly because he hasn't performed well enough to garner much of a return. Next offseason is the best bet. I would love to see Revere-Hicks-Benson in the OF a few times in September.
  15. Yeah fair enough.
  16. Let me rephrase things. I don't see how it might not be in the players' benefit at all, based on performance. Why do we have 1 year deal with incentives (remember the Baker 3 million and 3 million in incentives that didn't work out?) for some pitchers and not for longer contracts? I understand the Union's view on this. To give a better description that leans toward players. Imagine Shaun Marcum at a baseline 2/16 million dollar deal. Let's just assume that someone MIGHT pay 2/20 for him, with no incentives. If you incorporate four levels of incentives for a max of 2/25 million based on performance, wouldn't that benefit both parties. Say you have 4 levels for the 9 million--2.25 million apiece. Make the first two very reachable: 100, 150 IP with sub 4.10 ERA or whatever. The contract becomes 2/20.5 right there. Add in 180 innings with 4.00 ERA for another 2.25. And then 205 with 3.90 ERA for the full 12.5 million each year. The general idea is that this minimizes risk for the team, while maximizing max return for the player.
  17. Really. REALLY? Really? Come on. TRADING what?
  18. By the way, remember that flak given to the ST guy about a Young-Liriano trade? Hindsight . . .
  19. What the hell? I have to wonder if a Revere-Hermsen-Salcedo package would have worked in place of Span. I would rather have Span. And that would include trading Span later, potentially. Given the cost, I can't see them trading Revere now, as in this offseason. I wonder about Gardy's comment. OBVIOUSLY, from the get-go, Morneau was the best trade option. Watch where Hamilton goes, because if he leaves Texas and Michael Young is traded, Morneau would be very appealing to Texas.
  20. It would be good if he wasn't THE BEST HOPE, but the guy would be a very good addition. He fits well for the Twins and Target Field and does manage to strike more people out than what one might expect. I would find it ridiculous to be out-bid on Marcum. A Pavanoesque deal plus inflation might do it, and he is significantly better than Pavano. 2/20 and an option year with 2 million buyout seems easy for the Twins to do. The Twins should have $30 million to spend if ownership wants to. There are great smart pitching moves to be made for that money. AND AGAIN, the dollars are dropping after this season with Morneau, Blackburn, and Carroll off . . . so that 23 million reduction for next year should factor into this. Dempster and Marcum, Jackson and Marcum. Money should be no object there. And they would provide the key for 2014 and 2015.
  21. Would you rather spend 6/120 for Greinke or 3/40 for Jackson and 3/20 for Marcum?
  22. A few months ago I said the Twins should try to sign Dempster for 2/22 to 2/25 with an option year. I would be willing to "overpay" for him at 2/30 with a 15 million option and 2 million buyout. Absolutely. The guy is NOT a 4 or 5 starter. How can anyone even say that? Maybe if you don't pay attention to stats and performance . . .
  23. Sorry, one year removed from a near 20/20/20 (the third one being triples!). Also it is interesting how anyone can call a switch hitter a "platoon" player.
