  1. First job out of college was as a sports reporter and a local volleyball team had Nicki Miller, Nikki Miller and Niki Miller.
  2. Going to take a little nap on the couch after this game before I head to bed. It’s my snors d’ouevre.
  3. Can’t really bring myself to root for said team. Best I can do is to say that I wouldn’t mind if they don’t lose tonight.
  4. Would be interesting to see if a particular menace made that name fall into disfavor, with parents not wanting to put their kid through elementary school with that gift.
  5. And if you live in Bulls country, including northern Indiana, Paxson and Jordan. Don’t remember anyone naming their kid Rodman, however.
  6. This cuts to the chase for me. Trading Kepler is more likely to weaken this year’s team than enhance it, and they’re not going to mess up the clubhouse mojo for the minimal return that it would get.
  7. So you’re saying the Twins should trade their left (sic) fielder because he’s sucked, but that teams better than us might want him?
  8. If the Mets were to sell, it’s hard to imagine it being Garrett, given his future control. More likely would be Adam Ottavino, who actually has a better FIP, WHIP and K/BB and who is a free agent after the season. His ERA is ugly, primarily because of a single four-run outing. He wouldn’t be a sexy add, but between him and Garrett, I’d prefer the O when you consider the cost.
  9. Let’s go on a 48-game winning streak and get to .500.
  10. Mariners announcers bragging on Dylan Moore playing multiple positions while Castro is at the plate. Moore will probably hit the 20-game thingie at four positions, with 29 at SS, 21 at 2B, now 17 at 3B and 15 in LF.
  11. Agreed, but it does force them to use a player.
  12. I thought so too, but on the replay it looked like they did get him on the back of the leg. Given that it’s the bottom of the eighth, though, I agree that it was worth the challenge.
  13. With LLR scheduled in the eighth, I like going to Okert there and planning for Staumont in the ninth.
  14. That’s a nice response to the Mariner TV graphic noting that only Crawford and Rodriguez have not struck out tonight.
  15. And his slugging percentage about 100 points. (Apologies if that’s too mathy.)
  16. Buxton just missed three of those pitches. And fortunately, the one just missed him. That could have been ugly.
  17. I like him at first on hustle plays as well.
  18. I could handle enough runs to give Castro his third game on the mound. Maybe he can hit 20 there too. EDIT to add: To clarify, I mean enough runs BY THE TWINS.
  19. His career actually has some Olivaness, though a couple years earlier. He was phenomenal through age 32, but only had one season with more than 75 games after that point. That was in a renaissance year thanks to the implementation of the DH in 1973. His most-similar player on b-r.com is Eddie Murray through age 33 before tailing off to Carlos Lee at career end. His Hall of Fame balloting (and general reputation) was significantly hurt by an arrest for smuggling marijuana, but he was finally elected by the Veteran’s Committee.
  20. A four-man bench leading to mid-game positional switches. He hasn’t actually STARTED 20 games at any of the positions, though his next start in left will be that.
  21. I don’t think I would, but I won’t throw a fit if they let him try for another. Then again, they do have an off day Monday, so he’ll have an extra day.
  22. Amidst my comments earlier about Santana’s career, I didn’t recognize the death of Orlando Cepeda. Sad couple of weeks for fans of the 1960s Giants.
